Hadn't noticed this thread before, but anyway, I'm here now. Here are just a couple of my favorite quotes. I tend to use lots of EQ quotes in my daily routine. If they have already been mentioned, then apologies but heh! we ALL know that every quote in the film is original and unique and worth repeating. Am I right, or am I right... Dupont: "How does it feel Preston?" Preston: "I'm coming" "No...not without incident" Jurgen: "Welcome to the Underground" "The difference being, when we want to feel, we can" BTW: Welcome to the boards Cleric Wilkinson, Enjoy the ride.

I can't remember what I posted on this thread before but this one hits really close to home because I've heard it used so many times in my own religion to get people to do things contrary to logic...
"It's not the message that is important but our obedience to it."

Just watched EQ again today--love it more then ever. . . And I've got some more quotes that I've officially decided I like. ^_^ Jurgen: "You're feeling." "You can kill Father." Preston: "Every time we come from the Nethers to the city it reminds me why we do what we do. . ." "Of course you do. . . You took it when you arrested me. *wink*" "Tetragrammaton, there's nothing we cannot do." Group: Jurgen: "Will you do it?" Preston: "Yes." Jurgen: "Can you?" Preston: "I don't know." I love that part because it's like, even though Preston doesn't know if he can pull it off he's still willing to put his life on the line for what he believes. . . I love the whole "Gun Kata" scene too--I've listened to the sound clip from it over and over and have it totally memorized. <G> hehe. That's all for now, fellow Librians. . . ^_^

Well....I just saw Troy. I really liked it. Here's my favoriet quote from that movie. When Achilles says to Hector You won't have eyes tonight, you won't have ears or a tongue. You will wander the underworld blind, deaf, and dumb, and all the dead will know, "This is Hector, the fool who thought he killed Achilles."
Yeah, I guess it may be a little cheesy, but it shocked me when he said it.

Yes, this thread is only for EQ quotes. Well..besides wanting to quote the entire movie...how about this line "If I was gonna shoot you, I'd shoot you in the face. Now go. Damn you!" that was brilliant

>>Preston [slightly annoyed at the puppy]: Fine. But you're going back in the trunk. [Succumbs to the cute, takes off coat] Here This scene forever turns me into a puddle of goo >>Preston: You were lovers. Just the way he whispers it gives me chills. >>Preston: You're absolutely, 100% right, sir. >> DuPont: Of course, I am. >>Father: Preston, Brandt's job was simple: to make you feel like you'd won, to make you feel safe.

Preston: Every time we come to the city from the Nethers, it reminds me why we do what we do.
Partridge: It does?
Preston: (pause) I beg your pardon?
Partridge: It does...
And I like Preston's "Don't", seconds before he puts a bullet in Partridge's face. I like it because you can't tell whether he really means it or not.
And it's not a quote, but there is that bit during the execution scene where Preston briefly locks eyes for the last time with the leader of the sense offenders. It said so much without saying anything, that "moment". The look on Preston's face, it was like he was asking for forgiveness, saying he was sorry for not being able to save them. And the sense offender, he respected Preston; it was like he was "saying": You know you are better than them, don't do it.
To me, that's the most moving moment in the film.

To me, that's the most moving moment in the film. I know what you mean about that. It's communication without any words. Just the eyes & slight movement. I also love when Preston practically begs, "Captain...I'm asking you one last time -- don't do this." It's just a great moment because the first time you see it your not 100% sure which direction it will take & then... BAM!! GUN KATA!! I find this moment of the film that the words, editing, and music really heightens the building tension of that scene. It's almost perfectly executed in my hum. op.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. The editing in that scene, it's superb. Total crescendo. The way it builds up to that now-famous split-second when Preston strikes those two shotguns 180 degrees! I didn't see that coming. And just the calculated ferocity of that scene, so fast and yet so brilliantly choreographed. That gun kata sequence, it's not even a minute long, but man is it good.
I just rewatched certain bits of EQ on Sky Movies. (I only ever get to watch it on satellite TV, I still don't have the DVD.) My mum's a big EQ fan as well. She says it's one of those films that doesn't get boring no matter how many times you watch it. (Personally, I think she's got the hots for Christian Bale, but she always wants to know why "he never smiles" in some of his film! Plus, when Brandt's face slides defeatedly to the floor in that final scene, it grosses her out a bit). She didn't know he was in Empire of the Sun until I mentioned it to her! LOL.

(Personally, I think she's got the hots for Christian Bale, but she always wants to know why "he never smiles" in some of his film! Tell her to watch Mid Summer Night's Dream, Little Women, & Swing Kids. He smiles quite a bit in all of those. I think that after American Psycho he's gotten a bit type cast as a stiff but he really does have some lighter films out there that he's quite good in.

Mary's "My God..." when she realizes that Preston is a sense offender, as he isn't going to inject his Prozium. And the eye movement she makes as she says it.
Preston's "Don't.." (I'll join aka) Yes, he meant it. The question is: what he meant? "Don't do it, because if you do, I'll shoot you", or "don't do it, because if you do, I'll have to shoot you and I don't want to do that"? Pretty fight he must have fought with his other ego deep inside...
Brandt's "Mind the uniform, Cleric...." How could he be so sure of himself, he must have known that Preston is better than him by...... lightyears!
....and of course, the hits: "No...not without incident" and the others. The whole script?
...and something else: I like Preston's face full of concentration as he's preparing for fight when the sweepers find the puppy in the trunk......

Mary's "My God..." when she realizes that Preston is a sense offender, as he isn't going to inject his Prozium. And the eye movement she makes as she says it. The downcasting towards the table? Yeah. I loved that. I thought the smugness of it was excellently done. Granted, he was a moron for thinking he could win. I mean, he must have counted the number of sweepers outside the doors, to know how many people Preston killed. The counting would be an ingrained action of the Clerics.

I love that guy.....he's always smiling....even just ten seconds before his face is sliced off. Don't know why they were so optimistic, I mean DuPont was having fun all the time, smiling, joking, and when he was facing Preston's gun, he was trying to make a good deal...."You feel, I feel, let's be friends..." ;D
(Just one thing I'm confused about: Where did DuPont get the Yeats line "treading on my dreams", if there were only Preston and Partridge in the temple when it is quoted, only once in the film? Did Brandt hear it, and later he told him?)

(Just one thing I'm confused about: Where did DuPont get the Yeats line "treading on my dreams", if there were only Preston and Partridge in the temple when it is quoted, only once in the film? Did Brandt hear it, and later he told him?) ....or maybe there is just one great big conspiracy where DuPont, Partridge and Mary are all in on it...??....there's one for you to think about......? Father (and DuPont) had tried many ways to infiltrate someone into the Resistance and bring them out into the open, so maybe this was the plan all along. They just didn't count on Preston being that good (silly them). Under estimated him. Ok, some more of my favourite quotes: "Call it faith, you have it I assume" DuPont "Goodnight Dad" - Robbie. Oh, that one just chokes me everytime. I almost want to hug Robbie there and then and Prestons look on his face, it's as though he knows, this is the turning point, but just doesn't want to admit it. "He is the worm that has been eating at the core of our great society" - Brandt. How much more feeling and emotion could he of put into that quote, I ask you. "Why should Father be more real than any other Political puppet" - DuPont. and finally..... I know it's not an acutal quote, but Fathers speech at the opening of the movie just strikes a cord with me, I don't know why, it just does. "Whose sole task it is to seek out and eradicate the true source of man's inhumanity to man......his ability to feel"

My guess is that Brandt did hear their conversation, he was standing right outside the door, not a big distance. A huge conspiracy theory? Ahh, I think everybody was in it! The mastermind behind it was Wimmer himself, because he was standing behind the camera, he could hear everything clearly, then he told DuPont....

surprised no one's mentioned this one: (sweeper team captain): Oh ****!!! Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him!!!!Aaaaaaaach! Beat me to it...cracks me up every time. The entire exchange between Partridge and Preston before Preston shoots him (such a beautifully done scene, too) after Brandt dies, you see DuPont do that thing where he taps his fingers together like "ok. I guess I'm going to have to do this myself" Priceless.

Another funny line happens when Preston pulls up to his home during the search: Guy: "Just a formality cleric, the search team is in your room right now" Preston: "Excellent. I have nothing to hide." [cut to preston booking it down the hallway]

Mary: "News bulletin: I'm a sense offender. I don't hang around much with the Cleric."
Dupont: "You should really learn how to knock."
Thought those were hilarious!

I also like the first scene with DuPont, when Dupont asks about his wife's execution:
"How did that make you feel Cleric?" "I'm sorry, Sir?" [smirking sadistically]"How did it feel?"
Then he asks him why he didn't report her herself. "I've asked myself the same question sir, I don't know."
When Preston's daughter is playing with the cereal: Robbie: "STOP THAT." It just shows that Robbie cares for his sister and wants to make sure she keeps herself safe. Then his sister looks at Preston and it's like they understand that they're all feeling.

One of my favorite quotes:
"But without the logic of process, is it not just mayhem? What we've tried so hard to eradicate?"
This gave me a glimpse into Preston's ideals.
The whole interchange between Preston and Robbie in the bathroom... classic stuff! I was floored to find that Robbie had been off the dose for 4 years and Preston didn't know (or perhaps didn't want to know). I loved Robbie's smile when Preston told him, "Then you know what I'm going to do now."

Just thought of these: "I live to safeguard the continuity of this great society." (said with creeping doubt and ironic realization mid-sentence) Then there's this one. Been wanting to utter this to someone lately: "Fine. But you have to go back in the trunk." ;D

LOL Summer! ;D
I just rediscovered this exchange while reading the movie transcript ... Preston deliberately provoking Dupont, perhaps?
Dupont- I've heard the most disturbing rumor.
-Preston- Rumor, sir?
-Dupont- Yes. A rumor maintaining that one of us, one of the Cleric, has secretly taken it upon himself to cease his dose, that one of our elite number is actually feeling.
-Preston- Feeling, sir?
-Dupont- Are you playing with me, Cleric?

I guess mine's not a quote exactly, but mum & I have a bit of a giggle when we're out n about. Basically, when we're being silly (and we are silly a LOT - mind you, you all know I'm extremely frivolous ) I do this pose with the sound effect and mum does the Keymaker from Matrix Reloaded blowing his key. So one of my fave quotes is the sound effect! sorry
