I've been ranting about the real world to cleric smith on another thread, but I have GOT to share this!
It's sort of 'You know you're EQ fan ....' but for real.
I was getting petrol at my local Sainsbury's and the attendant had his head somewhere else. He messed up my bill and had to redo it. He apologised and I muttered,
'A nearly unforgiveable lapse.'
He looked at me for a second and then spluttered,
'Equilibrium! That's from Equilibrium!'
There were too many people in the queue to say anymore so I just grinned and nodded.
It made me wonder tho', has anyone else had a 'real' EQ experience with total strangers?

Interesting that you should begin this thread today because mine occured yesterday. I took Gene to a new anime store that she found out about & while there I noticed that they stocked a lot of Japanese imported toys from films. I asked the clerk if there was anyway if I wanted a specific toy item from Japan that they might be able to get it for me. He asked, "Maybe...What?" "The gun from Equilibrium." His eyes went... "You just went up several notches." (I don't think he cared for my choice of anime ) Before I left he got directions to this site... (Chris if you find your way here & read this I'll get you that info ASAP)

lol, IRL Equilibrium moments? I know exactly what you mean. I was at the airport yesterday, surrounded by people all happy to see each other, hugging and laughing. Sense offenders, every one of them. I attacked the nearest security guard, broke his arm in 3 places, grabbed his MP5 and mowed them down with mathematical perfection.

I was sketching a picture of a cleric in science class, some guy was passing by me and saw the sketch and he was like, "hey, that looks like Equilibrium.." rather unenthusiastically. I said "yeah." and his only reply: "that movie sucks."

His eyes went... "You just went up several notches." (I don't think he cared for my choice of anime ) Gives you a funny sort of feeling, doesn't it? I mean, we're actually a very small, but devoted, fanbase and any recognition causes pure sense offenses!

Libby, this is a wonderful idea for a thread. Mine happened at our company holiday party the Friday before last. A temporary employee hired that week with whom I'd had no contact...big firm...around 100 employees...and I were chatting and a co-worker and friend of mine passes by and we do our usual, "Good evening, Cleric" or whatever time of day it is, and the other person becomes excited and says, "You're talking Equilibrium, right?!" "Yup." And we talked for an hour from there. I gave him the link to this site. I'll post more as they occur. Don't doubt they will.

living in Kansas City, MO, not many people know about the wonder that is equilibrium... occasionally though, i meet people that have. -had a profile name for Unreal Champion ship called "cleric" and while most of the people mispronounced it to read something like choleric or whatever, occasionally people would spout stuff over the headphones like, "cleric.... oh! like equilibrium?" and i'd all be like, "yeah, hell yeah." then i would proceed to lightning gun them through the face.
-during the second day of philosophy class this previous semester, i got into a conversation about movies with a kid that sat next to me. i said something nonchalantly about the tetragrammaton and he reciprocated the comment. i snapped my head to the side and started, "you mean you've see equil..." he interrupted me with a large, little kiddish grin and said, "ohh yeah." -random equilibrium-ite encounters are always fun. -TrustKill-

I was going to start an Equilibrium Encounters thread but I remember that we already had one similar to it and the search dug this one up... The other day I was at Universal City Walk (thanks to Walldude & my year pass to Universal Studios) and I went into Hot Topic. While there I discovered a Boondock Saints shirt and went all fangirrl about that film with one of the clerks. He was stunned that I even knew about it and was even more shocked when I told him it was in my top 10 fav films ever. Then I mentioned my #1 favs are a tie with EQ & Matrix. We proceeded to have a love fest. ;D Funny...they even carried that American Psycho action figure and I told him how we had a discussion here on the boards about changing it to a cleric.

that guy has no taste in movies On my ROTC cruise we killed some time during Aviation Week (where we mostly sit around doing nothing) by playing Hangman. I put "movie line" and it was "not without incident" I got a few comments like "what's that movie" or "isn't it that some B-movie Matrix-wannabe?" Such ignorance. Worse still, when we did it again, I put 'Wake up! Time to die" from Blade Runner. One guy said: "Man, you like some pretty crappy movies" Then a couple guys talked about how much Arrested Development sucks. I couldn't talk to them for a day.

I had a girl IRL tell me that Equilibrium was "like, so violent, I don't understand how anyone could watch it. it had no point, and plus, Christian Bale isn't even that hot." (paraphrased, but whatever.) I swear if we weren't at church I would have hit her.

(paraphrased, but whatever.) I swear if we weren't at church I would have hit her. I would have hit her anyway. I twitched about three times in that above sentence! 1. Too violent: She's ultra-squeamish because my squeamish acquaintances didn't have a problem. I bet she needs to go back to her Jessica Simpson films. 2. How anyone could watch it: See above. Jessica Simpson. blah blah 3. Christian Bale isn't that hot anyway: The final blow. This is where I stand up in the church pew and strangle her. I'll blame Dimension for not properly marketing the film and maybe they'll get me out on aninsanity plea. Especially if I remember to yell "For Wimmer!" in Welsh before strangling her.

Equilibrium too violent?
I wonder what that girl must have thought when she saw "The Passion Of The Christ".
Dimension's marketing dept. leaves a lot to be desired. The Hellraiser franchise has been languishing under their mismanagement for some time now.

[quote author=Observer board=general I wonder what that girl must have thought when she saw "The Passion Of The Christ". .[/quote] I loved Passion but let me tell ya, if she liked it too, she's guilty of a double standard.
"Too violent": Hey, Preston did what needed to be done.
"no point": Obviously, the political overtones escaped her. She probably watches chick flicks too.
"Christian Bale's not that hot" who cares if he can't pass himself off as a cute girl like Orland Bloom or Leonardo DiCaprio can?

I was at a local gamer shop this evening getting some DVDs & CDs fixed for my trip when I realized the clerk helping me had an EQ watch. With a gleam of satisfaction I blurted out, "I see you are an Equilibrium fan." "Yeah, but it doesn't have an alarm." It's amusing for me to see years later how my early obsession with a film and everything about it has a "chaos theory" effect on total strangers. (For those of you new or do not remember it was due to the fans and this site that Android reissued the Alien timepiece which had been retired.)

Nothing that interesting has happened to me involving EQ... But the the other day me and my friends were playing Rugby/ Gridiron (we invented it ;D) at school, and I got tackled to the ground and was surrounded by opponents and had a strong urge to do some gun kata moves.......That movie's changed me.....

It changes everyone, in a way. That's what makes it such a good movie! How many films simply pass by without leaving a trace? Wasn't someone telling me how "little" an impact this site had on the online perception of EQ, JenGe? Then again, that same someone did point out they have a tendency to be overly modest.
