It changes everyone, in a way. That's what makes it such a good movie! How many films simply pass by without leaving a trace? Wasn't someone telling me how "little" an impact this site had on the online perception of EQ, JenGe? Then again, that same someone did point out they have a tendency to be overly modest. Ok, you got me there...

Your site meets a need, Jen. There are a lot more EQ fans out there than I expected. My "EQ meets the real world" experience is vicarious, through my brother. I knew one of my sisters already liked EQ and CB. When my brother came over for Thanksgiving, I showed him my video and he mentioned that some guys at his work talk about EQ all the time and were big fans. My brother thought it was cool too, but not as much as I do. He said to me something I'd never known before (and maybe has been discussed somewhere on these forums some time in the past). He thought he understood the appeal of the clerics... the clerics are like modern samurais, trained all their life and highly disciplined. Prozium is the master, and when the cleric overthrows the prozium, he becomes a ronin-- a samurai without a master... I thought it was a really cool parallel..

EQ is such an excellent film. Has anyone noticed the similarities between it and A Clockwork Orange (drugs being used to limit emotion, British cast). I'm glad that someone actually made a brilliant fansite for EQ.
The GunKata is clever, imagine having to remember all of the moves as part of a dangerous job (like Police Officer, Cleric(!)). I'd like to see something like an intenational fan day where fans (funnily enough! i'm a sense offender, and what?!!?) meet up. I'd just like to remind everyone that EQ has a BRITISH CAST!!! Christian Bale, Sean Bean, Sean Pertwee, Emily Watson and Brian Conley. Just an ego thing, being British.

During the summer at work (I work at a golf course) we had this flock of seagulls that insisted on loitering on and around the 18th hole. Some of them even had the annoying habit of perching themselves atop the flag. The groundskeepers were able to deter most of the damned birds, but one or two persisted. I was pulling a pint when I glanced through the window at this one seagull atop the flag, and I muttered (more to myself than anyone else) "It seems to me that some of these animals ought to be tested for disease" and the guy I was serving--about my age--gave a smile of recognition and simply said "Great film."

I think EQ fans are going to the next codetalkers in the next Great War. "I repeat, it is situation EC-10! EC-10! Someone went all Preston on them!"

It took me awhile to find this thread. Well it happened again to me yesterday... Earl & I were shopping at Trader Joe's and as usual we check out separately. This always leads to funny comments by the clerks since even though we are together we are separate. The clerk took one look at Earl and said, "Has anyone ever told you he looks like Keven Kline?" I laughed, stating, "I thought the same thing 20 years ago when I first laid eyes on him." We started talking about Kline films when I asked if she had ever seen A Mid Summer's Night Dream with Kline, Christian Bale, & Rupert Everett? She hadn't but a near by clerk chimed in about what a great actor Christian Bale was... "Have you ever seen Equilibrium?" He stated. My jaw hit the floor. Excitedly..."I RUN THE FANSITE!!!"

Wow, Jen, I bet the cashier wasn't expecting that!
I meant to post this earlier, but as I was working on a movie a couple of years ago (as a production assistant) I discovered that the director of the film was an Equilibrium fan too. He had even made this short film spoof of it called "Equalateral" where instead of emotions being outlawed, it was comic books. He had the "Preston" character find someones hidden stash of comics and go through a montage of emotions after breaking down the wall. Good stuff!
One day on set, as I was sweeping up cigarette butts, he was standing nearby, smoking. I found a quarter on the ground & when I went to put it in my pocket my red ribbon (I always carry one) fell out. I put it back & looked up and the director had this quizzical look on his face. I explained that I carry it to remind me of the tactile nature of man, this which I discovered after watching the movie Equilibrium. He gets this huge grin on his face & says hes a fan too!! ;D We fan gab for a few minutes but then he's needed back on set. Needless to say, that made my day! Later in the production he even gave me a copy of "Equalateral", which I thought was very sweet of him.
It just goes to show that you never know where you'll run into a fellow fan!

oooh, I love the idea of this thread! and it's so funny, because these things happen all the time!
like last week, when I took my psychology exam at uni, it happened to be about emotions. one question was "what is the difference between emotions and moods, and how do they affect the way humans act?" and I wrote something about emotions being the dizzying heights and abysmal lows of the soul and bla bla bla, and when I ran into my professor a few days later, he had this huge grin on his face, "ah, Cleric Jennifer." first my jaw dropped, and then I couldn't start laughing ;D

This is pretty cool I think! The best thing that happened to me of that sort is, that I met someone, I didn't knew before and we talked about movies somehow. When I asked him, what his favourite movie might be, he answered: "I don't know, whether you know that one. It is not very famous, but an awesome movie. Have you seen Equilibrium?" You may imagine, what I answered and what we talked about for the rest of the day... ;D You see, EQ connects people... ;D

I was supposed to give a lecture today for an ROTC class. It was about Liberty and morality. I was talking about some limits to freedom that are necessary (eg when it hurts others' rights), and how you limit your freedoms if you're in the military. I was encouraged to show some pertinent videos.
So I chose to show the scene in Eq where Jurgen talks to Preston about how some of us have to "forego that luxury so the rest of us can be free"
Great line. Perfect for the occasion.

Ha ha, my boss asked a co-worker how something went and he said "without incident" and I chuckled to myself.
