WEll Milla Jovivich (sp?) has been cast in the lead in Wimmer's next film. Well as long as she doesn't have to act much and just kick ass it will be ok. But the film doesn't look like its gonna hit until somtime late 2004.

I read in Variety that filming will start in December. Here are the relevant parts of the article...I think they got some facts wrong though. Screen Gems has a sci-fi double bill set with Milla Jovovich.
...Screen Gems has set her to follow (Resident Evil 2) by playing the title character in "Ultraviolet," a futuristic vampire film that will shoot in Shanghai in December. Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium") wrote the script and will direct.
Jovovich plays the title character, a tough woman who finds herself the protector of a 9-year-old boy targeted for death. Backdrop is a civil war in the late 21st century between humans and a subculture turned into vampires. She's one of the latter. Wimmer wrote the script for Jovovich after watching her work in "Resident Evil." Clint Culpepper and Stacy Kolker Cramer are supervising the project for ScreenGems. Lucas Foster is producing....
I didn't realize until reading the thread at CHUD that she was 5th Element's "Bandaid Girl."

I also think its interesting what Wimmer told Nick at CHUD...
He certainly did get those eyes right with Bale as Preston.

Hmm....I haven't seen much films starring Milla Jovovich. Maybe because she hasn't been in many? Or she's underrated. Does anyone know how is she in terms of acting? I've seen Resident Evil and The Fifth Element, and I don't think those required her to whip out much acting skills despite the fact she was placed as a lead role in both of them. As for the action scenes in Ultraviolet, I think they're going to kick some serious arse. According to chud, Kurt is making the action in Ultraviolet much more elaborate than in Equilibrium, and that will be pure bliss for us. So anywho, anyone know how her acting is?

Interesting. Does anyone know if the movie is supposed to be based on the 1998 series "ultraviolet" which was a very interesting, stylish vampire series? members.fortunecity.com/roogulator/horror/ultraviolet.htmIt was a great series but not really action-oriented. Much more though-provoking and ambient in its style.

No I've heard that even though it has similar themes it is not based on that.

She was also in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc which she was excellent despite the undeseverd bashing this movie(and her) received. She may not be the greatest thespian alive today (she is a model and a singer as well), but she is a wonderful actress nonetheless. I was ecstatic when I heard Milla Jovovich was going to star in Kurt Wimmer's next film. Unfortunately, I have no idea what Ultraviolet is other then the fact that it was a comic book or a graphic novel..I forget which one. Still, I hope it kicks major boo-tay. Damn! I can't wait!

O i cant wait to see what Wimmer has planned in terms of Gun-kata for this flick. he mentioned in the directors commentary for the final battle between perston and father in EQ he wanted to do a much more elaborate never been done before eyepoping finish, but he simply ran out of time .. and completely scrapped the secret idea for a future project. EYE KANT WEIGHT!!!!

I remember watching Ultraviolet here on SciFi chanel one day when they had a marathon.
For those who have not seen it it's definately not a "vampire" flick as you know most to be. The way it was produced was more of a cop show meets x-files meets La Femme Nikita. Very Interesting.

Umm.. Cast (in credits order) Salma Hayek James Franco
Directed by Robert Altman Kurt Wimmer
Tagline: A look at the treacherous, back-stabbing world of the New York art gallery scene.
Plot Outline: A woman is caught in a futuristic civil war between the government and a subculture of disease-modified humans, in whom speed, strength and intelligence are magnified.
What in the world? Now that's hilarious. I love IMDB as much as the next person but they really screwed up big time.

Hey NovOne, Wimmer's Ultraviolet won't be based on the TV version. I know, I just wish it was . Hopefully it will be even better. I like Wimmer's style. Also too bad that they never show Ultraviolet TV show here anymore. Its only like 5-6 episodes but they will not replay them anymore for some reason.

What in the world? Now that's hilarious. Isn't it though?? I sent them a notice last week to fix it but they still have it messed up. IMDb sure is slow sometimes!! You'd think the staff would actually read the plot lines!!

I recently saw Milla in Zoolander and she's good at playing a dominatrix type. But Wimmer is right, I've seen movies where the actress is supposed to be a warrior and they either have it or they don't. If they don't have the attitude, they ruin the movie. Milla definitely has the look, both in her eyes and physically. She reminds me of Grace Jones and Jones kicked some ass in Conan the Destroyer for real. I read she put some bruises on the stunt men.

Ultraviolet is Milla Jovovich's name in the movie. So it's probably gonna stay the same title. I doubt they'll switch it if it's the main character's name.
