Exception: Undefined string identifier "TIP_GKMODE" in file "StringTable.txt" Closing... What wrong? Do you have a folder called "Data" in your Max Payne 2 folder ? In some cases, such as cracked games or database extracted by the modding tools, running a mod doesn't work because the engine selects the files from this "Data" folder instead of the ones from the .mp2m one. Well, if there's indeed this "Data" folder and some files in it, it should be the explanation and renaming it could solve the problem.

I've played this mod for a while now and I must say it has a some good points but more than a few bad.
I found the graphical aspect extremely well done, great animation, muzzle flashes and the glass breaking when killing a sweeper was a nice touch too. The sound effects were also cool.
I didn't think the gameplay was very good. Gunkata is just too ineffective in the game, for a few reasons. First of all it is terribly ineffective at range. You really have to be close to do any damage. Furthermore, in a lot of gunkatas you lose the freedom to aim, jump and crouch, so it's a lot harder to avoid enemy fire and kill enemies that are higher or lower then you. Maybe a possible way to fix these problems is some kind of targeting help, but I have no experience with the Max Payne engine so I don't know if that's doable. Lastly, I think only a few katas are effective, the forward kata is one, the crouch kata and the archangel combined with the fire button is also reasonably effective. In a next version, maybe you should sacrifice some cool katas for some more effective ones.
All in all, I'm still very impressed by your effort. I think it's a great start, but these are things I would change if you're still going to work on the mod. Just trying to be constructive!

congrats,
i haven't had a chance to play it yet (can't seem to find my Max Payne 2 disc, oh why did i uninstall?) but from what i've been reading and seeing it looks to be awsome.. after getting a new copy of MP2 i was planning on attempting an equilibrium TC myself, I have a alot of good ideas for a game based on events that may have followed those in the movie. Then i found out about your TC and how impressive your gun kata implementation was. I couldn't help but get more excited about my own project. I was wondering if
a) you were planning to continue the project with a full fledged story mode... (and if so would like to hear my ideas?)
b) if you were not planning on continuing the project, would you mind me using your mod to help build my own ? of course y'all would get full credit and i wouldn't dream of trying to profit from it.

Finally had a chance to play it and my first impression : AWSOME... FRICKIN AWSOME...
oh yeah for those that get that error message, you need to get rasmaker and extract everything from the HOM_rs4.mp2m file; it makes a data folder, copy that into your Max Payne 2 directory (yes to all on overwrite message) and when you start the game select none in the custom games to play it ... you wont be able to play any other mod or the original game (without HOM) but who cares... you can still play through the Max Payne 2 story mode with Gun Kata ..
now back to my original review:
you guys need to pat yourselves on the back and each diserve a high class hooker for the ammount of work ya must have put into this project... I love it...
you all have to add a story mode on this, playing the HOM scene was great but like any good mod left me wanting more... thank god for DMW ... which is now 20x better then the original MP2 one... as soon as i get home (been playing it at work for the past couple hours) imma crank up slipknot and some jedi mind tricks and give each cleric a thorough run through by letting "the bodies hit the floor" so to speak. I can't wait to play through Max Payne with the new moves aswell
after reading the criticism about the control, i was a little skeptical but after about twenty minutes I gotta say it rocks, if you had made it simpler it wouldn't be nearly as rewarding to mow down a room full of sweepers. as it it is it is almost perfect. bravo ...
Animation is fluid and just wicked... big props to your animater as he must have infinite patience, and a life time supply of prozium to keep from getting frustrated at the time it must take to make movement look that good
your models could use a little work, but from what i see you've already got somebody on that...
Only a few things that would make it better
a full fledged story mode (but not the movie)
Sword-play: Though it would be a shame to work so hard on something that hardly anyone would use (because of the kickass gun-kata system), so i can see why you didn't put in this build.
I do need to spend a lot more time with it, but in the past few hours lets just say i have not been very productive at work..
Anyways like i said before i've got some awsome ideas for an Equilibrium game. It takes part 5 years after the events in the movie.. and John Preston isnt the main character... pm me if you want to hear more....

I had started to write a Story based mod for Equilibrium over 2 years ago, that was based on the next 12-36 hours directly following the events of the film. But I decided it was far too auspicious to try as I was a virtual no-name within the community & there was no way I could do it all by myself. I had planned to have scenes from the film as extras....but then that idea slowly became Hall of Mirrors & hence the mod was born. I was fortunate enough to befiend an experienced modder in the same city as I lived to create that initial level, and the rest as they say, is history. My story is 90% complete & I still poke at it from time to time....I will get around to finishing it someday. Cleric Wolf has seen an early draft & he'll no doubt see a finished one too. I would never attempt to make it though, unless I won HUGE in the lottery & could fly people over here to help me make it. But I realize thats nothing more than a pipe dream which is highly unlikely to ever come true.... As for making your own story mod using our mod....mate, go for it! I am somewhat aprehensive of you being able to finish a full blown TC however, seeing as you've only just bought the game - there are very few TC's in the MP2 community as it is & it takes either an extremely talented individual or very dedicated team of people to succeed. AT any rate if its going to be something worthwhile it will take you a long time to finish it as well - which is a hurdle in itself. And getting people to help you is going to be very tough unless you can show them something that you've done first thats of pretty high quality. But by all means, you're certainly welcome to try. And good luck to you if you do.

thanks for the encouragement and i look foware to playing your next TC... you guys are a talented bunch... much props...
after playing the mod non stop i came across a couple minor issues...
1st your(mister Anderesons) character doesn't do gun kata, have i got an early build??
2nd... i was playing through the Max Payne story and i wanted to use Prestons model, i got to a certain spot (right before you see that black girl get killed and go see vlad) and it crashed saying there was a missing animation or something like that... would it do that with all non MP2 models...?? or is it just cause i'm playing a ripped version (i paid for it once so i figured it's morally ok)
anyways i do hope to at least start a story TC, I've done a bit of programming in OpenGL and some animating with Milkshape ... built a few basic levels for the original Max Payne, which i lost when my old PC's Hard drive literally caugh fire...
I doubt i'd be able to actually finish one but I would like to work on it in my spare time and if i manage to get a an intro and first level complete then maybe i can get a team together.
waiting on a sweet new Laptop(Gig of RAM and a GeForce 7800GTX built in) before i get started. on what i got now i can only get the mod to run at 20fps and i know building a level would be a pain in the ass on this system...

Thats great if you already have experience with MP1, making levels & so-on. It will be a lot easier for you to make something with the tools for MP2 which is not all that far removed from the first game. Be sure to show us all here any progress that you make!

Wow!!! ;D Wot a mod!!! Okay, i saw that this mod exsisted only the other week after seeing it on the front cover of pcpower. So i went out and bought a copy of max payne 2 and downloaded it. Love it!! I always wondered wen gun kata wud make it into a game, and here it is, and based on one of my all time classic films to boot!! So is that it? Will there be another release? Not that im disapointed in this mod at all, but i was wonderin if you plan to add anything extra in another go. If you do, heres my 20 cents. More objective levels takin from the film, say the factory scene, where as preston, you have to lead a group of sense offenders out of the factory, before they all get killed (only to fall into the hands of Brandt) Or a "save the dogs" level in the nether. Maybe u shud add the kung fu mod to it so wen you flip ur guns around you can use martial science on people. And perhaps add swords (not sure if there is a sword mod for MP2, i know there was one for the 1st one) that way we can cut brandt's face off in the story mod level (hehe) Other than that, i tip my hat to you, excellent effort. Well im off to practise my gun kata skills and get thru the story mode without getting touched (speaking of that i read early that hackerssz had a problem with not getting hit during some kata moves, HELLO? do you not listen to "Father's Voice" the "idea" is not to get touched.) Also does anyone know that Mr Wimmer nicked his white claded preston from a lesser known manga "Burst Angel" even the pose of guns, one to heaven one to hell, was, ahem, borrowed. hehe, regardless, Excellent mod, and if you arent planning on revamping HoM, are you looking to do another mod? Cheers ;D

Well, chaps. I've got to say that I'm extremely impressed with the way your mod has turned out. The animations are smooth, the gunkata controls are easy to learn but difficult to master and the whole thing is generally just fun, fun fun! I'd love to see a story included with this lot but I understand how much work you've put into this and how I'm sure you all need a break! To all the people who are bemoaning the invincibility factor of the gunkata: You're obviously playing with the mindset of winning. Sure you could press shift and right and kill every sweeper in the room without taking a scratch, or you could string together an extremely cool looking set of gunkata moves and enjoy the fluid way in which you decimate an entire room while 'appearing' to be invincible. It's not the result, it's the journey, gentlemen

hey fellas I've been playing this mod for some time and I think it rocks. But surely it can rock better. Problem is it doesn't really make you feel like you are preston, but more like a crazed akimbo ammo depot who keeps firing all around himself and shoots some bikers by chance. Really the gun-katas are real cool but it is tough to hit a buncha people at the some time with them, in equilibrium preston never ever(and I mean never!) missed.he didn't get shot either, but in the mod you are cant aim in gun kata and unless you use the combo with "c" key, you just keep hitting walls and stuf.(talk about waste of ammo) and a melee mod is a must. I mean the guns with nails under the handles remember? Also there are only two typers of enemies, being the sweepers and clerics. There should be alot more(now I know modeling is hard work but there are a whole lotta people that may help out) how about adding those heavily armored sweepers also. About the story mode, john preston is a grammaton cleric first class, that means he shoulda taken a lot of missions before he became a sense offender(burned a lot of mona lisas) so you can add levels where we gun down pathetic sense offenders, then kill patridge, and then save the puppy and so on. Last but not the least, how about adding katanas?

I just wanted to say:
This mod gave me an excuse to play Max Payne through. Gun-Kata in storyline mode is too cool. A really good MOD.

Nice to see people are still discovering the mod. So far we've hit the 25,000 download mark from our various mirrors in 3 months - we reached 12,000 in our first month of release alone.

Hello there!
I've found the MOD about a week ago, but wasnt able to launch it. I recieved a error message:
Exception in engineInit:R_Script: Can't parse assignment to variable "SlotIndex" in [attributes]/[Cleric.txt]! Assignment: "slotid_cleric" Format:"%d"
The game starts nicely in normal mode, but when i choose custome mode, it gives me that message. I have followed all instructionts in MANUAL.pdf, and copied all *.bik files into movies directory.
What should i do?

It might be due to the fact that you have a folder called "data" in your Max Payne 2 directory. If you do, either delete it or rename it to something else and try the mod then.
We tested the mod on a variety of computers and I've never heard of this bug before. I'm positive it's something related to your setup, so see if that helps, and let me know if it does/doesn't so we can try to help a bit more.
