What is your favorite action scene from EQ? You can include the reason why if you want to but I'll leave that to you.
I'll add mine later...

Oh, I get a rush from ALL the action scenes. To add a new one to the thread, though, I really liked the 'No, not without incident' scene ending with the startled look on the attendant guy, then marching out the door to do more damage.

It would have to be the scene when Preston takes the dog and tries to save it by driving it into the outskirts but is confronted by the law enforcement crew. The sheer intensity of that scene was great and when Preston disposed of them all in a matter of seconds I was literally left with my jaw hanging. Sure the end sequence is amazing as with most of the other action sequences but I reckon that first scene is where it truly shows Prestons elite skill. I loved every second of it.

Isn't that the first time in the film that we really get to see what gun kata is all about? Sure, the dark room sequence hooks our interest but we're still not sure what's nabbed us until we see it in the flood lights. We are in the dark until then.

Yer thats the first real time you get to see what the gun kata is all about. The first scene in the dark room is great because like you say it hooks our interest in wanting to fully see what hes capable of. Besides the copy I have of the film isnt fantastic quality and I always have to look closely at whats happening cause its so dark. I live in the UK and the film hasn't been released here and not many people have even heard of it. Anyway what's your fav action scene JenGe?

Minor Spoilers...For me its actually a tie between the "dog" section of the film like you mentioned and the "dark room" sequence. I hadn't realized before your post how well those two sequences actually play against and with each other. The "dark room" sets up the anticipation without revealing too much. In the theater those few seconds of darkness and silence then Preston breaking into what my son calls "strobe shooting" are exceptionally thrilling. You really have to see it in a theater to fully experience the dramatic effect. Rarely does one sit in compleat darkness and silence in their regular lives let alone in a theater. Quite exhilarating. The "dog" section finally lets us as the audience taste what we've been teased with and it doesn't disappoint. I just sat there stunned. I've seen almost every action film last year and not one of them came close to grabbing me the way EQ did. Besides, this sequence has my favorite action shot.

Mine would be a tie between the end scene (w/Taye Diggs and the "father" wannabe) and the one on the bust where he just pistol wips like 4 of them..and doesn't fire one bullet. That totally rocked!

Hmmmm. Yeah the dog scene pretty much knocked my socks off out of shock and intensity. But the pistol whip one is sooo good. At this point you already know what he can do so when he does the stance and the gouging things flick out of the handles i was like "oh yeah!" and then the slow-mo was pretty cool in that one. His facial expressions were amazing. Actors say that it's really hard to keep the face in character doing two things, eating on film and fighting on film. He must've never ate during the shoot and put all his energy into the fighting cause his face in that scene is solid!

Hey epple But the pistol whip one is sooo good. At this point you already know what he can do so when he does the stance and the gouging things flick out of the handles i was like "oh yeah!" I had that "oh yeah" reaction to most of those action scenes. It was tough to have the film come to an end. I wanted more...I still want more...

Has to be the scene at the end where Preston is fighting Brandt with the Katana, it is so well shot and the movements are so very graceful

Fav action scene:
The first real one. Where he asks them not to do this and runs over that bike and shoots. I actually hit rewind and watch it over again just to be sure I was getting it right. An amazing fight, and of course the first in the movie so you get BLOWN away by it.

Oh boy... Well - i loved EVERY action sequence in the film - Gun Kata being a totally original concepts ROCKS the world! However - seeing as i'm being asked to pick my fave (decisions decisions LoL) - it would have to be - the final fight scene between Preston and DuPont. Doing a bit of martials arts meself - i can understand just how quick one person can be compared to another when it comes to matching physical skills. And this scene - a) it seems to go on forever, which is just fantastic and b) is SO fast that it just blew me away! I think it was very much the last scene that prompted me to say - yup DEF seeing this one again. Amazing. Spike

hello all,
I just wanted to say that I haven't seen EQ yet but I am so excited about finally getting to see it on May 13th.
Here's my question, on gunkatta.com there are two equilibrium action clips which i downloaded (they were amazing and i watch them at least 15 times a day), the scenes were the scenes with the puppy and the motorcycle somersault and the scene where he pistolwhips like 6 guys ( did you see that dudes arm?, ouch, that hurt me).. damn this is longer than i thought it would be, anyways i was wondering are those the two best action scenes in the movie or are there other scenes that are better?
thanks in advance

Since you haven't seen the film yet I really hate giving away spoilers. Yea, those are some of the best action scenes but I have to say that all of them are excellent; the darkroom, the end, the arrest, the sparing...
But you need to know that EQ is not just an action film. There are long segments with no action at all.

I am just as excited about the story as I am about the action. I'm kind of mad at myself though because I have 'accidentally' read a bunch of spoilers so I think I know a little too much about the movie.

Did you read them on my website or the message-board? I've tried to be careful with my site but in here I've been a bit more laxed. Maybe I should add a spoiler warning at the top of this page.

Definitely spoilers - but then would you really enter a thread called "favourite action sequence" if you didn't know there would be spoilers??? Favourite action sequences are all of them of course but the bits where I keep replaying on the DVD are: - first scene where Preston enters the black room at a run;
- Preston in the Nethers after being discovered with the puppy - that is an amazing scene;
- Does the scene in the Baron Hall with Brandt count? When they're fighting? I love that even though in the commentary I thought it was hilarious how Kurt keeps moaning how expensive it was to keep mopping the black floor between takes. I thought it was amazing how he said that there were no doubles / stunt men for that sequence and that it was Taye and Christian doing everything!;
- the two fight sequences after Preston unsuccessfully tries to lead the Resistantance fighters to freedom - admittedly I got a giggle when we see Kurt Wimmer being shot - he was acting so hammily!!!;
- not really an action sequence, but when the polygraph goes FLAT and there is so much tension and apprehension and Preston says in that menacing way: "No. Not without incident" and then the "I'm coming" line
- of course fighting his way through the hall to get to Dupont's sanctum;
The face-falling fight with Brandt was a little too short for me to consider it a good action sequence and the fight with Dupont wasn't my favourite either although Wimmer admits in the commentary that it didn't quite come out the way he wanted it to. I did like his explanation in the commentary about how he has been criticised for having Preston kick butt so easily ie it's fantasy etc. I agree - it's so frustrating to go through the usual cliche - oh look, the hero is being whipped, oh dear the hero is down .... oh look the hero is back again.

I know I'm a bit late on this one, but I've had a little time to dig through the EQ archives.
It's hard to pick a favorite and I'll tell you why: The evolution of Preston's emotions...
Dark Room: He's totally emotionless and dispatches the rebels and walks away. Imagine how tough that must have been for Partridge to endure.
Nethers: As his emotions are surfacing, Preston finds himself in a unique situation. He's not totally grasped the full extent of his emotions, as they've been dormant for almost 30 years. He's torn between what he knows he is to do with the puppy (extermination) and what he wants to do (set it free). When the sweepers interject, he does his best to keep his new feelings in check. But when they discover the puppy and raise their weapons, instinct takes over and it's hot lead for lunch.
Sparring: The sparring scene between Preston and Brandt is pivotal to the story. By using emotion, Preston probably sensed that Brandt was toying with him and trying to prove himself superior to Preston, or at least on level terms in combat skill. This is the demise of Brandt when it comes to the final scene, and why I believe that he was dipatched so quickly.
Round-up: He's got a purpose now! That purpose propels him to save the lives of those he's been taught to put down (what an inner turmoil that must've been). The non-firing fight where he pistol whips the sweepers is awesome, especially when he starts shattering their face-shields. A new progression in emotion, especially when Brandt plays on this by proposing that Preston execute them himself.
Conclusion: What can I say. This is the ultimate scene. Jurgen points something out to Preston that for the sake of the others, he has chosen not to feel. This, for me, is what Preston recalls which enables him to flatline the polygraph and of course says "No. Not without incident" (that line rivals Arnie's "I'll be back!"). From there, he pulls all his years of training and mops up the entire place. I gotta say that seeing a man with a pair of handguns beat out a bunch of sweepers with automatic rifles is awesome. And the smirk he gives the one bodyguard when he's surrounded was PHENOMENAL!!!! Dispatching Brandt as quick as he did at first seemed anti-climactic, but upon further reflection made sense. He never showed Brandt the full extent of his skills until it counted. Preston Vs Dupont was excellent. Two masters doing mathematical equations against each others (since all moves are statiscally studied) with one handgun apiece....sweet!
All in all, a long read, but that's why it was so difficult to pick one out.....

What’s this about a Canada release in Theaters? Il be standing in front of theaters with pompoms, and a EQ sign yelling "YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE" seriously that would be cool, and it would be even more amazing if they had filmed it with an Imax camera so you could watch it on the Imax screen As for fav action sequence. I still have to say that first scene in the film, because you are not sure what is going to happen, and at the end Preston's gun barrels are glowing. still makes me giddy
