The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King - original soundtrack......Minas Tirith theme. Howard Shore really deserved that Oscar! Agreed, his music in Lord of the Rings is amazing, these tunes fit perfectly every scene they accompany. Can't imagine anyone else doing the score, but I know at some point Wojciech Kilar (my fellow countryman, btw) was being taken into consideratation to do the score. I wonder what the soundtrack would've sounded like then... No matter how, it would've been very different from what I'm listening to now Decided to give my Nightwish a little break and now Paradise Lost is on very heavy rotation on my playlist. I'm taking everything i can track down. It's called starvation or something like that??? ;D

I had Chambawamba playing today. Though most people know them for their "pissing" song there really are some other great cuts on the CD.

One of my co-workers was in a band that toured Europe with Chumbawumba. He said the funniest thing was people coming up to them and singing that song - not realizing that they have been around for a long time and didn't even particularly like it.

And if the second* best movie and the best OST come together.......that makes 11 Oscars! *(Note that the BEST movie is:......guess which!) PS: I really like Annie Lennox, but I wouldn't choose her for singing the end credits song, 'Into the West'. Enya was better. And she can sing Elvish too... ;D

I admit that I'd probably do that. The fact it's a "pissing song" must be annoying for them, but it is actually a brilliant song. Really uplifting. Deimos

Our neighbors woke us up at 4 a.m. this morning with making terrible noise in their kitchen, which is on the other side of our bedroom's wall. That was a very bad idea. The punishment comes as ZZ Top's 'Mescalero'. Next time they'll be more careful. Back in high school, I sorta did that once with a noisy neighbor...they were playing some really cheesy local ballad, really loud one afternoon. And they were in another house near ours - that's how loud. So after about half an hour of them looping the SAME SONG over and over, I treated them to Joe Satriani's Satch Boogie through my window their music suddenly stopped and they never did it again Now I'm listening to a track I heard on the radio - Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. Not really the kind of music I usually go for, but the lyrics are pretty nice No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips...

Yeah, Natasha Bed-in-a-field has great vocals. I much prefer her (for obvious reasons) over her tiresome brother, though he isn't actually that bad a singer himself. Er, yeah, for obvious reasons: Right now I'm listening to John Williams's score from Catch Me If You Can.

Oh. Nevermind. I just had to read up... Duh.

Actually I personally think her brother is a better artist - he has a better voice, has made some pretty original songs (well OK at the moment he's doing crappy ballads, but stuff like "Gotta Get Thru This" was pretty unique at the time IMO) and can do the human beatbox (which is easily the coolest thing I've ever seen anyone do). My respect for Natasha plummeted when she admitted not writing the lyrics for the song called "These Words" (I think) which contained the line "these words are my own". Except they weren't. Currently listening to "Do You Know Me?" by Babyshambles live at Radio One. If Pete Doherty can stay off crack for long enough to make an album it could be an instant classic on the basis of the live sessions I've heard. I'm not really a fan of the whole Libertines saga but the 'Shambles make some compelling music. Deimos

Oh yes, when Joe is playing, that's....mean. I love his guitar play, as he was the teacher and is the best friend of the greatest guitar player in the world (my opinion....I know, Jimi is the king, but....) Mr. Steve Vai. When they play together.....aaaaahhhhh... Interesting, because right now I'm listening to Steve's brand new album "Real Illusions - Reflections". I've bought the CD on Friday. It's magic.

Her brother is Daniel Bedingfield, whose fame is highly disproprtionate to his talent, IMO. His first single 'Gotta Get Thru This', was made on a PC in his bedroom. And apparently there is yet another Bedingfield set to step onto the music scene, a little sister I think.
And Deimos, I have never heard Bedingfield do human beatbox, so I don't know how good he is at that, but if you want to hear real beatbox, you need to listen to a guy called Rahzel. He is THE undisputed king of beatbox. The track you're looking for is 'If Your Mother Only Knew', and it has to be heard to be believed, it's that good. PLus, 'Mortal Kombat' is pretty fucking awesome.

Deimos - thanks for elaborating, I think I'll go check his music out... and that's cool Chrissie, my opinion is that Joe is the king It's not just his guitar playing that I like - it's also his compositions. There's a lot of his stuff I don't like, but the ones I do are - Always With Me, Always With You (which is kind of his anthem, I think ) Rubina Time Machine (an odd choice maybe, but it certainly makes me imagine time travel). Baroque Tears in the Rain There are others, but I think I'm trying to say that it's the way he captures a concept and creates it through sound which is, for me, just amazing.

And together with Steve, they are so much innovative. They've been in music for quite a long time, and they are always ready to do something unusual. For example, when Joe released "Engines of Creation", many friends of mine, who are guitar fans and players, didn't like it for being 'too electronic'. I don't know, I like that album. Interesting. Something new. So is Steve's "Ultra Zone". His new album "Real Illusions..."is a rock ballad, and he's found something new again in the sound of it, but somehow it remained the usual genial Steve. Seven strings Ibanez Jem rulezzzz!!

Speaking of Steve Vai...I've got one song of his, and it's "For the Love of God". A six minute solo, with backing music. I was curious as to when the song was made, as it reminds me a lot of "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", by Metallica.
Now, to me, John Petrucci is God. Insanely fast, clean (like, uberclean. I haven't heard a mistake once - I do only have four songs though), and metal. Amazing. ...I should get more Dream Theater stuff...

you know, I'm embarassed to admit that the last album I have of Joe's was his double CD of Time Machine ;D I did hear some of the tracks from Crystal Planet but it wasn't my kind of music. I think I should go check out Engines of Creation. I haven't really gotten into Steve Vai, but one of my brothers who plays guitar really likes his (Vai's) stuff. Maybe I'll look at his new stuff too Dream Theater....well...I kinda liked some of their older music but it didn't really grab me at the time...

Actually, that was Cutting Crew. Corey Hart did "Sunglasses at Night" Ah. Right. I tend to get the two mixed up. I'm sure they're nothing like each other, but they tend to be played together or near each other on the radio. That, and I think I'm as old as the two songs are. Were I to grow up with them, I'd probably know them backwards.
