I knew it!
I knew there was a version of EQ that didnt have the widescreen bars, ergo allowing you to see more footage at both the top and bottom screen. I swear, if you're a fanatic like me, which you are if you're reading this, this is like striking gold. This is a clip I found on youtube containing the hall of mirrors scene and the final gun fight between Dupont and Preston, and there are no widescreen bars.
And to stop all you film buffs in your tracks: no, the screen isn't being stretched to fit into a 4x3 box, this is the original untouched footage, just without the bars. I didnt think they'd actually release a version of it but it looks to be japanese based off of the subtitles: this could possibly be 'Rebellion.'
There's sooo much more you can see its crazy. I've watched that scene at least 20 times, and its like watching it for the first time.
When Preston poses before he goes down the hallway, you can actually see his gun now.
While he's going down the hallway, you can see the guards in full from head to toe. Before, their waistes were cut off.
When the guards come out of the office, you can see the top of the doors and the chandalier.
And perhaps the best of all: When preston fires the machine gun, you can see all of the hallway behind him, and there are no bodies on the ground. Ha!
I'd kill to have a version of the whole movie in this format.
I'm sure some of you are wondering what the big deal is, but if you're like me, I dunno, it's just so weird to see the movie like this.
Go pop in EQ and watch the 'Not Without Incident' chapter, then watch this video to truly see and appreciate the difference.
