i read in one thread that kolabear posted something about a conversion process
i was a die hard matrix fan until one day i woke up and realized that the matrix wasnt the best movie ever. if you gave me a 100 million dollars, Bullet time, the best japanese fight choreagrapher and cool soundtrack i could come close to making a good sci fi action movie too. but thats besides the point what made me even more angry was the news week article showing who "copied" the matrix and what do you know, the EQ poster was there.
It read: ads still aim for coolness-by- association, like this recent film poster. even its name sounds vaguely mathematical
Instead of doing away with these ignorant individuals, we must educate them. Spread EQ whenever you can, even when your at the video store advertise to complete strangers.
im not putting down the matrix nor am i putting it up, but if we dont spread the word big enough, the matrix reloaded will completetely over lap EQ [im still looking forward to that special edition DVD]

Great topic. As mentioned in an earlier thread, I have started the conversion process already. - I emailed JenGe's URL to some friends and started raving about it
- I sent the QuickTime trailer to several friends
- I've sent a copy of the DVD to my brother in Australia
- When a friend came over the other night, I 'made' her watch it
- I've been telling all my friends about it
I know that I'm going to start driving my friends nuts as I walk around mumbling: "We're the Tetragrammaton, there's nothing we can't do." What else did I do that was nutty? - I've been listening to the first movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony over and over and over again.
- I walked into HMV at 10pm to buy Empire of the Sun and Little Women at grossly marked up prices (sheepish grin) and proceeded to watch all the bits in Little Women with Christian Bale in it (had to save Empire of the Sun for later because he's in the whole thing albeit mighty young
- I keep hitting REFRESH on this board to see if anyone else has any other comments about the movie because so far only one of my friends has seen the movie and she's not really into dissection of movies!!!
While I really enjoyed The Matrix, I agree that the inevitable comparisons to The Matrix are very unfortunate for EQ - hype and budget-wise. I also think they're very different because The Matrix was very much an action / fun movie for me and Neo never really grabbed me emotionally the way Preston does. Strictly speaking, I think Keanu Reeves is better-looking than Bale, but as we know his acting / emoting skills are more limited although he does a more than adequate job in The Matrix. Preston comes across as a much more conflicted, tortured character - who you just want to take home and say: "Sense Offence away, dear, it's fine with me." The trailer while quite nice-looking is not entirely great for the conversion process. Wimmer mentions in one of the DVD commentaries that the people who put the trailer together made it look like a revenge movie, ie Preston is angry about the fate of his wife so takes on the system etc which is NOT what the movie is about although admittedly, Father's speech at the end seems to imply that he thinks it is a catalyst for Preston's rebellion?

Yup, you got it as bad as I do. A bunch of us practically took over the EQ thread at CHUD in Dec/Jan due to our enthusiasm just to find other people who loved the film. It was one of the few things that got me through those early days after EQ was pulled from the theaters after a 2 week run. I still was able to catch it 5 times in that period though. I also dragged my hubby to Arizona (a 6 hour drive) just for a sixth viewing.
So far all of the trailers have been a bit off IMHO. I'm glad I saw Equilibrium before viewing any of them. That moto flip was just stunning to see it for the first time on the big screen.
I must be one of the few Keanu lovers because I really thought he was quite good in A Walk in the Clouds and Much Ado About Nothing besides Matrix. On Bale, I personally think that Swing Kids is one of his best early films. I really didn't like Little Women much and actually took little notice of him until Reign of Fire.
I'm an action junkie not an actor junkie.
Belt notices - I mentioned EQ at UPS today and also at Best Buys...dropping hints where ever I can.

...what made me even more angry was the news week article showing who "copied" the matrix and what do you know, the EQ poster was there. It read: ads still aim for coolness-by- association, like this recent film poster. even its name sounds vaguely mathematical You know, you can look at that two ways, sure they got it wrong but also they gave EQ coverage. I wonder how many people are now more aware of Equilibrium's existence then they were before and out of sheer, morbid curiosity will check it out?? On the poster...what ever marketeers created that abomination (though I actually own two of them) ought to be stripped naked and plastered with them. ;D

I like Keanu too - I loved him in Speed and he was also good in Much Ado About Nothing and Bill and Ted!! I just think Christian Bale is the better actor. I'm an action junkie too (kung fu / wire fu - martial arts generally although I was so impressed with Bale's acting in EQ that I had to go back and revisit his old stuff because he never made an impression on me before - even in Reign of Fire. This is such a polarising movie though!!! I was reading the reviews at amazing and they're hilarious. On one page, one reviewer gives it five stars and the one beneath gives it one and says it's the worst movie in the world. There's also a real doozy of a review on this page: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JLWN/3/ref=cm_rev_next/103-1290481-4236653?v=glance&s=dvd&vi=customer-reviews&show=-submittimeHe compared it to Battlefield Earth and Showgirls!!!! Good grief.

Polarizing is an excellent way to put it. Even though all the viewer ratings are currently high throughout the web the vocal minority seem to be quite hostile and emotional. Interesting since the film is about emotions. ;D

I read a thing saying something like "Wire-fu using Matrix copies like blah blah etc and the recent Equilibrium." But isn't it true that EQ didn't even use wire-fu?

But isn't it true that EQ didn't even use wire-fu? Yeah you're right, shows how little most people who keep saying things and given reviews of EQ really know, it's sooo annoying especially when they make it out to be a bad film or a copy of other films ie Matrix. I've already had 3 arguments with friends about this, and they had only seen the trailer at the time!!!! BTW I covinced them that they should see it, and after they agreed that EQ is a GREAT film, completely under-rated, and although has similar elements to Matrix and such isn't really anything like them!! As pyro said: Instead of doing away with these ignorant individuals, we must educate them. Spread EQ whenever you can, even when your at the video store advertise to complete strangers. (Gaining more resistance members, hehe ;D)

I like how Wimmer put it..."action Philistines," The one that gets me is when people say that Equilibrium is a blatant rip of Minority Report. The filming of EQ wrapped months (Dec. 2000) before production on MR was even begun (spring 2001.)

This might sound wierd, but on the topic above about "things we could do to make people aware.."
Possible to come up with a t-shirt with a catchy pphrase that will compell someone to ask and you can just say:
"See Equilibrium Cleric" or some such. just a thought.

Interesting idea...I can't sell anything through this site because its non-profit. I could add links if anyone wants to created them though. Another idea is to use some of the graphics and backgrounds from this site and everyone create their own either through computer printed iron-ons or taking the image to a local shop. I would be more than happy to host T-shirt designs that anyone would like to create.

Well it seems an idea has a start.
The point to the shirt would just to have some catchy phrase on it, maybe a website address as well i would guess. not sure what to quote though, t-shirt making is cheap and it can fund any site, even a non-profit one, or set proceeds to go to an organiztion. as to quotes or sayings? not sure.
I live to safeguard the continuity of this society, to serve Libria.
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Should I report him?
Or maybe one with Cleric, love those lines, just can't think of one....wait i can think of lots more once i get the DVD....muahahahah. ok i know few more days yet

So are you saying I should actually invest in a decent web addie?? ;D The other day at Blockbuster I mentioned my site to the clerk. He asked me the web address and I couldn't even remember it. Told him to go to IMDb and click on "Sound Clips" or run a Gun Kata search on Google.

Those pictures on Ebay look odd though because they are not images of the actual shirt. Is that really the size the picture is going to be on the shirt???
