Someone...way ages ago mentioned Trinity Blood to me here...personally I love the whole thing, but I am known to like the kind of steampunk style world that it presents. I forgot where the post went, could be the EC-10 or another forum. However the comparision pictures from EQ are a nice touch

I added a link to the thread on the Main site and the News page... I may actually have to create a page for films/anime that EQ has influenced. Trinity Blood and Alone in the Dark are facts. Possible influences: door surfing in I, Robot...

It's hard not to be influenced my EQ, I mean in Fate's Hand I was influenced by a number of things...including EQ.

Just watched the last episode last night.
When Father Tres (the guy above) fired his gun, you see the signature Tetra muzzle flashes too.

I remember having seen one episode of this anime, and I bet I did it because of this old thread on this board. Anyway, apart from the stuff mentioned above, the whole first fighting scene was "ripped" in the anime. You see this guy jumping into a room full of enemies, him being in the middle, there's still light in the room. Then a big ship flies above the room, so the room is pitch black. I think you can guess what the fight taking place then looks like It's all simply the same as in Equilibrium. I guess it's more likely an homage to EQ rather than a rip-off, as EQ got pretty popular already, while the enemy shouldn't all too well known

If it hasn't already been used Jen, you definitely have an anime there that homages the dark room fight as misterx points out.

Here's a clarification on the Gun-Kata in Grenadier: youtube.com/watch?v=cIOxsYDHWGcI have to admit that they do have Preston and Dupont beat. Neither of them could reload a gun like that . . . [EDIT] Man, the Japanese REALLY like Gun-Kata. Now even Sentai shows have it.I must say, that has EQ beat too. Preston never had guns that made hella big explosions like that . . . [/EDIT]

Bahahahahh!!! I loved that reloading. What is sad though is that if someone actually tried to put something like that into a real film they would be laughed out of Hollywood. So my question is why is there a double standard? Why can anime get away with something like that while regular films cannot??

So my question is why is there a double standard? Why can anime get away with something like that while regular films cannot?? Because no regular film has tried it yet. I guarantee that if Ultraviolet had featured some crazy cleavage-kata action it would have been a box-office success. (Guys are shallow like that, ya know? ;D)

I doubt it. I think that only a director like Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) could get away with it.

Because mainstream audiences do not watch anime. "Regular films" are exposed to a mainstream audience and mainstream films are not of this nature so the reaction by someone who watches something that is a niche thing is gonna have a backlash against it.
It's a lot like how The Matrix came out, mainstream audiences really believed that everything in the movie was original. That the action sequences were never done that way before ever in history. And that's simply because mainstream audiences were not, and still are not, exposed to Asian cinema (specifically HK action movies and anime).
When Equilibrium came out it was, and still is, still backlashed as a "Matrix" rip off evne though it isn't even infulenced by that film in the slightest. Again, this is because mainstream audiences don't have anything else in Western movies that are like it and in their minds, anything that is must be a rip off.
BTW, what did Alone of the Dark rip off of Equilibrium? Perhaps I missed it when I was on the floor rolling from laughing so hard at that "movie".

BTW, what did Alone of the Dark rip off of Equilibrium? From the director... ...I love stuff like the shoot-out in the loft where you see only the muzzle flashes is basically an homage to Equilibrium with Christian Bale where you have something like this. Here's the thing, I always try to, [if you] say it negative, I steal from other movies, but on the other hand, I think I try to bring some elements in the movies so that it's not going from the first minute to the last minute in the same style or in the same mood. I think with Alone in the Dark, we have horror, we have action, we have a little thriller element, we have a few [different] elements coming together.filmforce.ign.com/articles/583/583575p1.html

Well ... things have changed a teeny weeny bit since August of 06. ;D And it is out on a box set. If US prices are anything to go by, should cost you in the 35-40 quid neighbourhood.
