The expectations were many, although I’m a relatively new fan of the saga (when I was younger I never had the chance to see the movies), I was really nervous when I finally sat down on the movie theatre chair. Would my dear Sylar be the perfect Mr. Spook? He sure looked like he would be…. And he is! They are all perfect! There were times when Chris Pine’s Kirk looked like and sounded like my good old William Shatner’s Kirk, and Simon Pegg as Scotty… well simply amazing!! Although Karl Urban is physically quite different from the old “Bones”, he represented the psychological traits of the doctor in a smooth perfection! It’s an amazingly great movie! A movie that I recommend you to see! A movie that I will watch again and again! Live long and prosper!

Brilliant film!
As I said on another thread, I'm a total Trekker and have been since I was 14.
The Original Series was what it was, wonderfully 1960s with all the angst, racism and politics of that era explored, extrapolated and safely translated to a distant future where everyone mostly lived in harmony, according to The Great White Bird's Utopian philosophy.
Zachary Quinto was a revelation as Spock. effortlessly capturing the essence of the Human-Vulcan dichotomy, although a certain aspect of Vulcan behaviour...the Ponn Farr...was rather overlooked!
Kirk was...well...Kirk. Green-skinned Orion girl anyone? But I did think Chris Pine made him more 3 dimensional than Bill Shatner ever did.
Simon Pegg was spot-on as Scotty. Bones got to say his classic line 'I'm a doctor not a...' and Walter Koenig would probably applaud Anton Yelchin's Chekov.
Leonard Nimoy...what can I say? *sighs*
There were many nods to the OS, in both word and action and I found myself clapping and laughing at regular intervals.
However...no spoilers...I did think that the 're-imagining' went a bit too far off the mark and if there's a follow-up, there could be difficulties. I had quite a few WTF moments, I can tell you!

Finally managed to get to the theater to see this. I can't disagree with anyone. It was awesome. I kind of feel bad for people who didn't watch the old show because seeing all these folks meet for the first time was like seeing old friends again after years. Going to be hard to top this film for best summer movie.
Spoiler:
I thought the whole alternate timeline thing was brilliant. It allows Abrams to go in any direction he wants with the next 2 without worrying about screwing up the continuity.
