hey guys, just a quick question... do we know what Jurgen does for a living? besides leading the Resistance, that is. I can't remember anything ever being mentioned, but I've had a fever for a few days, so I don't trust my brain much right now.

oh, another thing that just came to my mind: we see Librians in differntly coloured clothing, which I have always assumed is to distinguish them by their class. however - what's the hierarchy? my guess would be (that's how I handle things in CTI): black (Clerics and Administrators) navy/blue (first class civillians) light grey (second class civillians) khaki/brown (third class civillians) as seen here and hereso that'd make Jurgen a 1st class civillian. the reason I'm asking is that I'm considering making him a doctor, a profession which I guess only 1st class civillians would be allowed to have.

I don't remember his profession ever being mentioned. If you were to make him a doctor I wouldn't cry heresy ... I'm not sure I'd do likewise though. I think of him as a failed law/government student who turned to writing and organising. Of course, as leader of the Resistance and therefore schooled in the ways of subversion, he might well wear a higher rank colour than his proper one, as a way of blurring his identity.

What does anybody in Libria do? They seem to walk about a lot...some carrying briefcases...travel on the rail network going Father knows where and sit watching vidscreens telling them how wonderful they are (regardless of the fact they're so doped they don't care anyway!)
Mary's comment was interesting...she said it was 'circular'. People exist just to keep the cogs turning in - as Preston called it - 'this great society', but no one person is particularly important; no-one is indispensable (except Father/DuPont).
Which brings me eventually to my point...Libria only wants healthy people able to carry out the tasks which keep the cogs turning. Doctors would probably have a rather narrow mandate...basically, if you can cure them quickly then do so but if they're going to be a long term non-productive drain on resources (cancer/total inability to work) then make sure the next shot of whatever is...well...fatal.
The idea of Jurgen as a doctor is really interesting and throws up a whole new set of problems to be explored. If Jurgen were a doctor, he'd have to be putting his own life on the line everyday to help those who would otherwise be euthanased. He'd have to have a loyal team to fake the paperwork and methods of hiding those people. Trouble is, there would be no drugs available to cure them so they'd die anyway...probably in great pain. What a dilemma!
Seems to me that a lot of the 'work' revolves around Prozium...its production, distribution and monitoring. Then there would be the task of feeding/clothing/housing all these people...again production, distribution, monitoring. Whatever Jurgen did, I'd imagine him in a position where he was 'out of the office' all day, so he could do the Resistance stuff with impunity and keep an ear to the ground.
He does seem to have a great many contacts in some of the more highly secure areas...he knew about Preston taking the ribbon etc...so he may well have a position which affords him access.
As you point out, he wears different coloured blues; the more formal dark affair and that oh-so-height-of-Librian-fashion light blue coverall (I could just see him with a clipboard, monitoring the colour of the brown cereal everyone has to eat!)
Food for thought *chuckles*

To me the real question is ... what does Seamus do? And what's with the beard? Why is HE the only guy in Libria with a beard??
My theory is ... he grew the beard to disguise his resemblance to his brother. Yes ... his full name is Seamus Preston. He's a desperately bored lightbulb inspector who is angry at his younger sibling's rise in the Cleric Corps, and determined to have his revenge as a maven of Sense-Offence.

do we know what Jurgen does for a living? I think the only evidence of what Jurgen "does" is at the beginning of the film: he attends what look like political rallies and applauds Father's speeches! He's a bank manager now (or was, do you think he died from his wounds in "The Dark Knight"?). ;D
