A friend of mine often pleases to watch this movie with me. And for sure I will watch it, but probably next week, ;D because this week the movie has premier and the cinema is overfilled with people. (I don't like masses around me and tall persons sitting in front of me in the cinema. )

The texturing was great, the animation was ok (the animals and visual effects (water, fire) weren't great), but for the most part it was a huge improvement than the previous performance capture efforts. I very much enjoyed the story and the action. It was much better then 300, far more substance, far more entertaining violence. My expectations were definitely exceeded, though they were low to begin with.

I'll watch the movie on Thursday! ;D I'm pretty excited!
Yesterday I've seen an older version with Christopher Lambert. It was from 1998, but it looked like it would have been older. The way they designed Grendel was cool, but all in all I hope the new version will be better.
Has anyone seen this version? (I'm sure there have been more "Beowulf" movies then the two I know.)

The visual style looks pretty but it looks like it combines cartoons and live-action in a way that doesn't preserve the advantages of either. Besides, I learned my lesson with 300. I also saw an acquaintenance's review of it which had spoilers (I read the poem so it didn't matter to me), and they sounded pretty ludicrous.

I didn't knew that I would...uhm... hurt you! Maybe... Well... I should ask if someone wants to read something I want to say. Is... everything... alright? Aehd...? Oh, you... don't want to... answer me? Come on! Give me a hug! Please!... *huging* *looking into your sad eyes* Everything's ... alright now? Please smile again... Look, like me... The new Beowulf is the best version, yeah? *near to cry to* What have I done? I'm so sorry! *crying* Give me the Whiskey! *grabing it and drinking everything at once* *snief*

Sorry ... it's just that that film made my head hurt. And I'm a man who normally LIKES bad films. I liked "Ultraviolet," which was generally trashed in the film community. I have been unable to verify the story that the Lambert "Beowulf," released in the US in 1999, was actually filmed in 1995-96, completed a bit later, but had to wait two years before it found a distributor willing to handle it. The combination of in-your face anachronisms ... for example, we have to have swords and armour and light given by candles: yet we also have cigarette lighters, loudspeakers that work in a castle that has no electricity ( ), body bags, and aluminum foil (which takes massive amounts of electricity to produce). Yet there is steam power. And poor old Lambert, who is OK when he has other actors to carry him, finding himself the best actor in this film? The best he can do is repeat, move for move, all his "Highlander" sword-swinging moves. All to the pounding beat of a techno soundtrack that would have been great for many movies--even a martial arts one. But which bent the mind in this movie. It was all just too much. I'd rather have another tooth pulled without anaesthetic than go through trying to watch that again. Yes, I said "another."

It remembered me a bit of Conan, don't know why, but Conan was consequent. Like you already said this "Beowulf" version doesn't takes his own world serious. It is a strange movie I think and sometimes I was able to laugh about it. ;D But Lambert acted with the charme of a dehydred bread. The best thing in the movie was the way the presented Grendel, which I liked. This monster is my favourite (and only likeable) figure of the whole movie. But I'm able to laugh about this and now I know how I shouldn't make a movie. ;D (I'm so glad that you're okay. And you don't have to watch the movie again, if you don't want to. Is that okay? Yes? Okay, if this is so: Let's pull out some tooths. To become a good dentist you have to be a sadist, don't you? )

I HAVE SEEN IT! I'm right back from the cinema and I think the following about the movie. I'm still excited, so I will do it in keywords. ;D story: just great animation: fantastic Beowulf: cool Angelina: *Angelinaaaaa..... slobbering with opened mouth while dreaming* Grendel: absolutely disgusting! This is the only point of the Lambert version, which I like more.Dragon: awesome fights: exciting ;D ;D all in all: A real great movie! I was absolutely against making a whole movie on the computer, but after watching this movie I'm thinking it over, because I've seen a great result. But I think that it isn't good to show this movie to audience up from 12. (the German rating for the movie is 12 years) From my point of view this movie is too brutal in some scenes to show it to younger audience. But this is a real awesome movie and I'll definitely buy the DVD later.

I thought the movie was enjoyable, but not worth repeat viewing. I saw the 3d version, and was entertained by how many things they throw at the screen. The animation of the people and backgrounds looked pretty darn good, although the animals looked kinda "eh" except for Grendel and the dragon. Of course I'm used to animators not being able to figure out horses. I don't think the visuals beat 300. I got tickled at how many times someting convenient got in front of Beowulf's privates. Very Austin Powers. Oh man, and how Grendel's mother invented high heels. *rolls eyes* In terms of adaptions, I would have to go with "Beowulf & Grendel" which is a live-action piece filmed in Iceland. It stars Gerard Butler.

Personally I'd rather stick to the original epic poem that I know and love.... and stuff all the movies! Beowulf and the entire Ring of Neibelung saga are in dire need of a good director/cast/film crew/budget. Hell, do it in the original language and subtitle it.
