I figured I would create a thread for the discussion of this awesome movie.
Just saw it for the first time last weekend, and I must say it is amazing. I just love these psychological, mind bending kind of movies. Anyone have comments on the movie; or more importantly, has anyone seen it?

Brilliant, genius, awesome.
I love it when Donnie tries to stab Frank The Bunny and it seems to bounce off mid-air.

Actually Pyro, there is no thread created for the discussion of the film Donnie Darko. I'm assuming that you refer to the " Donnie Darko Site " thread. With a quick scan just now, I found that very little discussion of the film ever went on. If you have been there, you know that the site is a kind of discovery game where you delve deeper into the story. It is independent of the movie and merely gives background info.
This thread is strictly for the discussion of the film.

If you're talking about the part where Donnie repeatedly tries to stab Frank in the eye, I'm pretty sure the tip of the knife is just hitting the glass of the mirror, since he's seeing Frank in the mirror, instead of his own reflection. *shrugs* And you're right. This film is genius.

the part where donnie is stabing frank's eye is a glass window, and they used special effects when the knife made contact

I liked what little of this movie that I saw, unfortunately it was somewhat ruined by an organization I've come to hate and will leave un-named. Let's just say it was a load of BS.

C'mon... name it I have this on DVD, I bought it and never watched it.. will have to check it out this weekend.. I did the same thing with Dark City, I sat on the DVD for like a year before someone "made" me watch it, now it's one of my favorites. Hopefully I'll get the same result with this. Will let you know over the weekend..

Well, the only organization that I remember in the movie was the FAA. Of course, you must be talking about something else; that part of the movie was only like five minutes. Man, if you have had an experience that made you hate the FAA, something bad must have happened --------- All Right, here's a topic to ponder and discuss. What was the meaning of the final shot in the film? The one that shows Frank (the kid, not the bunny) crying in his room with the sketches of the demonic Frank and that silvery metallic looking Frank bunny head.

Well personally I didn't like the first time I saw it, but then I saw it again an it grew on me. I liked the charaters uncompromising position on what the rest of the world thought he should act or be. Its not my favorite but I really liked it.

I rented it out of curiousity, expecting the worst - and I liked it. I don't think it's mindbuggling or spectacular, but the cast is good (it's been far too long since I last saw Mary McDonnal in a movie!), and I like the quiet narration style. The story isn't much more original than your average Outer Limits episode, though, but I'm into that kind of thing. I would not recommend the movie to anybody who isn't.
Watching it without any expectations, and considering that it is a low budget direction debut, I found it quite enjoyable; mainly because I had no idea where the movie was taking me. Teenage soap? Thriller? Fantasy?
+++SPOILER - - - - About that last scene you mentioned, Pentagrammaton: I thought these people were crying about Donnie's death - but how would the real Frank know Donnie, in the altered timeline? He is obviously designing his Haloween costume here, the one he'll be wearing later while driving the car.
I don't know if this is just coincidence: Next to the castle of Nuremberg in Germany (where I live) there's a distorted metal sculpture inspired by Albrecht Duerer's famous drawing of a hare. It looks kind of demonic and frightening, and my first thought was that maybe the director noticed it on a sightseeing tour and put it into the movie... Maybe not.

the part where donnie is stabing frank's eye is a glass window, and they used special effects when the knife made contact I'm not talking about how it was done, just how it looked. BATTY: Nah, the mirror was behind him at the time. There was no glass between Frank and Donnie, just air.

BATTY: Nah, the mirror was behind him at the time. There was no glass between Frank and Donnie, just air. It had been about a year since I'd watched it. I popped in the DVD to check, & I stand corrected. I think the reason I got that idea, is because in the shot immediately preceding it, he's looking at himself in the mirror. I was wrong. Don't get used to it, it doesn't happen very often. ;D

ya. donnie cant stab frank 1. because he really didnt want to, and 2, frank had some sort of force feild i think, which saved him from any danger. "You can do anything you want to..." right? and by the way, yes this is one the deepest and most amazing films ive ever seen. speaking of amazing films. i wanna start a thread, if it has not already been started, about the movie The Butterfly Effect. just saw it tonight. all i can say is....wow. simply wow.

there is one thing i just do not understand. the whole story revolves around this "philosophy of time travel" where an object in the wrong time could destroy the world and so its the job of the "living receiver" to somehow return it to its proper time, right? so we're meant to realise that the plane engine is the object in question, and that donnie is the living receiver, correct? what i don't understand is at the end of the film, the engine still flies back through time and winds up in the past, so why doesn't the world end? or to put it another way: WHAT IS THE ENDING ALL ABOUT?
