If Kurt Wimmer had created The Matrix films, it would have been 10 times better. John Preston could have been the new Neo, who is better than the current one. Its comments like these that show a total lack of respect for film makers in general, and not just the Wachowskis. I'm growing weary of this thread the more I see comments like this. If it continues this way then I can see it starting to take shape as a brawl/fightclub type thread. And you can bet your life on me being the one to be in the middle of it....swinging a very large pole around. I could start a thread stating "What if the Wachowskis had created Equilibrium" but to do that would be a totally petty thing to do. As it is, I love both of these films, the Matrix obviously more than EQ & not just because I share a name with the main protagonist. I can identify with the story & the recurring themes through out this great trilogy. This planet is big enough for both of these franchises to exist simutaneously, but every time I see something like this....its gets just that little bit smaller.

See, what Trinity said is what I meant. I dont mean any big comparison, its just that Matrix got all the glory, while EQ got pushed aside. What does it matter to you that the Matrix got all the glory? Is it keeping you awake at nights? If the answer is yes, then you need to get out of the house more & experience the real world. The ONLY thing that should matter to you is that you like it.....everything else should be irrelevant. If this is not the case then you are totally missing out on the real reason people go to see movies, to be told a story. Not how popular it should have been.

You know, I watched The Matrix again after not having seen it in a while. And I really can't say anymore that EQ is superior to The Matrix, because they are so different. They both stand on their own as wonderful and groundbreaking films. Bullet-time. Gun kata. It is sad to me that EQ wasn't more widely released. After seeing The Matrix, I was jaded when it came to many other films, because The Matrix was the ultimate. Then I saw EQ much later and was so happy to find another movie to love as much as The Matrix. As for Reloaded and Revolutions, I enjoyed these films, but The Matrix stands on its own.

First of all, to compare The Matrix and EQ is only natural. Both films have similar philosophical themes. If you know anything at all about Plato Socrates Kant or any of the famous philosphers this would be very clear to you. The Matrix however, in my opinion, falls far short of EQ. The Matrix starts off amazingly. Original cgi and special effects, engaging storyline, philisophical content. The second movie is alright until the end when Keanu, the worst actor they could have possibly picked for this role, suddenly has super powers in the 'real' world. Then the third movie just crumbles and they turn Neo into Jesus, have him burning on a cyber cross of flame, and have the architect quoting the catholic bible. This to me, is a huge let down. It shows to me the true motive of the wachowski brothers. They should have called the movie Revelations, not revolutions. Also the battles in the movie were horrible. Now, EQ, AMAZING. Story is on point, never strays. Cinemetography is low budget yet still beautiful. The story sucks you in and gets you involved emotionaly. When Christian starts to feel and remembers his wife and how she died, I truelly felt for him. This is what a quality movie should be. The MAtrix was just a scheme to make boatloads of money. If you wanted the full picture you had to play the video game, and watch the animatrix. Honestly, the video game and the animatrix were better then all three movies combined. Ok, I have to go to class, but I just want to reiterate one point. Keanu is the worst actor I have ever seen in my entire life.

I'd rather not see this thread end up in the Matrix Brawl, thread...in the Nethers to be honest. The original topic to me is quite interesting, it would be like, what would happen if Peter Jackson had done the Matrix or Kurt Wimmer...the Lord of the Rings? For my own contribution to this particular topic. I begin with the simple, and fairly unemotional phrase (Well I am a Cleric after all) - To each their own. I think if Wimmer had made the Matrix movies he would have gone for less action, more story and a much more involved/convoluted plot. Wimmer would have introduced Gun Kata earlier, rather than Bullet Time and therefore we would have Max Payne doing really strange things with two guns Not to mention a slew of video games with Gun Kata in them, there'd be a number of Gun Kata rip-offs in all the current movies. But what matters to me is that Kurt didn't make the Matrix movies and that both, The Matrix series of films and EQ are vastly different... It's not a matter of how good an actor Keanu is, or how excellent Bale is as Preston...it's a matter of one thing. Entertainment... And as I said before: Everytime someone runs down the Matrix, God puts a Kitten into orbit via a magnetic acceleration rail-gun.

Entertainment is fine, if that's all you want from a movie. When the movie however is SUPPOSED to make you think, like the Matrix was supposed too, it's dissapointing when they end the trilogy with a movie that has no thought in it whatsoever. Man and machine working together to solve a mutual problem, wow that's an original premise if I ever saw one...what happened to the matrix, and whether or not it's just one layer or an infintude of layers? Just like platos allegory of the cave, this movie was supposed to make you question reality, question everything you know to be true. The third movie falls back on religious implications and just says, well ok neo is jesus, end of story. I'm not going to harp on this anymore unless anyone feels like engaging in an intelligent debate about it. The main point is that I think wimmer would have stuck to the original intent of the story, would have introduced new and inventive action sequences. Instead of taking three months to get the perfect shape and size of a raindrop like the wachowski brothers, he would have made sure that the kung fu that followed was more involved then just a few punches and kicks and fancy flying. Keanu is not a kung fu expert. I've watched almost every kung fu movie there is, I'm a huge fan. I know what a good fight is supposed to look like. If you watch how they made the scene, they throw slow punches and blocks and then speed it up on film. No talent whatsoever. More detail was given to the environment of the matrix then the actual characters and fight scenes themselves. So even if you're looking at the movie as just pure entertainment, it's not even good for that. The mech warriors? Ok that was done how many years ago? They have ships that can produce EMP pulses to knock the machines out yet they are afraid of these machines? Does the story make any sense to you? In the animatrix, they block out the sun in an attempt to cut off the machines power supply. Last I knew you didn't need the sun to run a nuclear power plant. K...sorry, can't help myself I think about movies too much, but the facts are there for anyone to see. They hyped this movie more then any other movie, sold all kinds of merchandise, and are now famous. They have a gimic that can produce sales for years to come. New video games, etc. Wimmer did nothing of the sort, he made an amazing movie with a limited budget. If anyone feels like arguing with me I welcome debates. You can email me or im me on aim. Interesting points there, but as a member of the entertainment industry myself, that's sadly the price that happens when someone has an idea like that.
To quote the best line of a movie that illustrates this.
"Merchandising, Merchandising, Merchandising, it's where all the real money from the movie is made." ~ Yoghurt (Spaceballs)
I personally found the Matrix game really dull and boring, but then again for me - Max Payne was it!
Heh.
But I'm not going to get into any debates about this particular topic, because they'll become brawls, and it seems any Matrix or EQ V Matrix style thread will become such.
Quite sad really.

Since Equilibrium fans seem to come in several varieties in regard to the Matrix we all will have to find some way to get along on these boards because I do not intend on opening new boards for each group.
1. EQ fans who despise anything Matrix
2. EQ fans who also love the original Matrix but feel the sequels have something missing.
3. EQ fans who equally love it and all of the Matrix films.
4. Ones who really don't give a crap either way & think the infighting is nonsense.
In some cases these groups of thought will find themselves diametrically opposed to other members of the board. Disagreements are bound to happen and even flaming from time to time. The trick is trying to keep the discussions & retorts non personal & more intellectual, in my hum. op. Sometimes not an easy task.
If your ears begin to throb with the increasing pulsating of blood it might be time to step a way from the screen for a time & cool down before you post.

the whole goal of the matrix triology was to make money not enteratain or to provide an intresting story. sorry to digress, carry on An interesting theory, but unfortuneately incorrect. Have a look at any documentary or article that discusses why they made 3 films and you will find that "the brothers always envisioned it (their story) as a trilogy" Please find me a direct quote from the Wachowskis that states otherwise. Not flaming either pyro, just stating the facts mate.

Hey guys, please with the drama. No one is flaming anyone, we're just putting our opinions out there. It is a post right? I don't see any personal attacks whatsoever on this thread. If intelligent debate equals flaming attacks then we are a doomed race.
About the merchandising, merchandising, merchandising quote, I love the reference. However it doesn't make it right. I can't help but point to the fact that they were trying to make us think, not just sit there and drool over cgi. It's the fact that they failed US with their conglomerism that I'm pointing out.
