Do you think Kurt Wimmer knows what kind of fan base he has for EQ?

I often wonder how much the creator/director of a certain piece of film, actually knows about his fans. If I were a director etc, I'd love to know what my fans thought, but often it's time and other commitments.
I can only approach it from a writers point of view, and then not as a world famous one (yet) but getting mails and the like from fans, of the RPG books I've done, still weirds me out a little - but I love it :>

Probably yes but he should take a time out to chat or mingle with us. Considering that he's in China working on his next film, Ultraviolet, and that he hasn't even appeared to have the time to visit the CHUD messageboard in quite a while I think that's highly unlikely & in a way asking too much. In my hum. op. as fans we really should never expect anything from those who have shared their craft with us but more excellent work.

I agree with Jenge on this one. I am just grateful that he made a great movie, there are so many crappy ones out there, that something truly great is appreciated. I don't need him to come out of his busy schedule and chat.

Many fans of many genres, think that the Director's and creators are often beholden to them. This is one of the reasons I love the EQ Fansite and the people here so much, because there is truly none of that attitude here - here is a very special place and I truly thank Jen for providing it.
The people here are worthy of the true moniker of fans.
I see it all the time as a game developer, both of PC and Tabletop RPG products - if the game doesn't live up to the expectations, we're royally flamed for it.
They forget, we tried.

Thanks for the comps!! *Stepping up on my soapbox...* I agree with you. Too often fans think that actors, creators owe them something because of their support & love for the product created. All to often an obsession over a film becomes an obsession over a person & that can be very unhealthy. They really do not owe us anything at all. They have done their work and are now moving on with their lives & projects but we as fans in many ways get stuck in the worlds they create for us. It must be remembered & realized that creators rarely have the same relationship with their product/film that the fans do. That being said I think that we also, as you mentioned, have to be realistic about future projects. I would never slam the Wachowskis because I cared less for Reloaded & Revolutions then I did the Matrix. M. Night Shyamalan is another one I've been somewhat dissapointed in because I expected more. They did the best that they could, I accept it at that, & move on looking forward to their next endeavors. *Stepping off my soapbox...*

We do think alike V^^^V... I get quite vexed when I do see a creator of something slammed, I have to admit. I love nothing more than to be entertained, I'm at times a bit of a fan of the old B-Movies and really low budget crappy Sword and Sorcery flicks. When a film, book, TV show or other material doesn't meet my expectations. Let's say Star Wars: The Phantom Menace for instance, I wouldn't say that Lucas was a bad film maker because of it. The main thing that we do have to remember and again, it's why I feel so at home here, is that creation in any way, shape or form, is done because the creator wants to share their vision with the rest of the world. I'm certainly not looking for praise and compliments when I see feedback on my writing. Hellion will tell you, the Stephen King compliments knocked my jaw off - I don't think anyone at that time, has ever said anything like that to me before. The kick to improve my style and to push myself further was incredible. See the results in the EC-10 thread. Now we apply this to Kurt and to the W.Brothers. If they really saw what some people have said about their work, because it doesn't fit in their own personal 'what the creator should have done, according to them' pidgeonhole - they might become disenchanted with the prospect of making another movie or writing another book. So as a creator now, I try to give everything a fair shot...it might not be my cup of tea - but the point is - there's someone out there who's going to love it, obssess over it and take it to heart. And really? who are we to tell them otherwise? Heh, darn, that was a rant and a half heh.

I think that KW should come to my house, and meet my family, talk to me for several hours about film, and maybe even watch some Sunday football games, I would also like to meet his family and share their thoughts on philosophy and other interesting subjects, maybe his mom can make dinner for us all and we could all decorate their Christmas tree together and then sing songs

Well you can spend alot of time in these forums so Kurt Wimmer would have to take a fair amount time out to discuss stuff properly with us fans... when instead he could spend his time making another kick ass movie ;D
