Anyone else think Kurt should write more sci-fi? Even though UV wasn't a revolutionary film I thought it had some really solid concepts and a good basis, and I'm a huge (obviously ;D ) Equilibrium fan. I'd love to see more science fiction from Kurt. How does everyone else feel?

I would never have any problems with it! ;D There can't be to much good sci-fi movies. What would you think another Wimmer SF movie would be about and look like? I personally think that the probability of antother "one fights the totalitarian system" is very high. If he'd do something else I'd be a bit surprised.

Personally, I think he needs to move away from sci-fi and re-establish himself as a non-genre specific storyteller (at least in his next one or two projects) until the UV fallout is over.
Guessing on his next sci-fi project: Much asskicking. I don't know if he'll dip into the gunkata well again, but he might try new visuals in terms of stylization or choreography. Maybe post-UV, he'll go with a completely different approach with the use of CGI.

Probably he should do something from another genre. It's always good if a director is many-sided and I think that Mr. Wimmer is able to do another outstanding movie with visionary effects, like the Gun-Kata, and unusual ideas. But some directors or writers are definitely genre-workers and if they try to do something else, they fail, but they are great at their own genre. e.g. Quentin Tarrentino or John Carpenter. It depends on the personal taste of the person. I don't know whether Mr. Wimmer is such a "genre-director" and I also would like to see a movie belonging to another genre. But of I don't think that he will make a better movie than EQ, because this is a real masterpiece. Of course I would be glad if he would do a better movie, but at the moment I can't imagine a better movie than EQ in general. ;D

What's wrong with genre directors? If it's what he wants to do then I see no problem with it. As far as more gun kata goes, that's interesting, I didn't write this post with the hope of seeing it again on screen in mind. I'd be game for just about anything he could think of sci-fi wise, I'd love to see new twists - which is partly why I was really excited for Ultraviolet, Kurt did some genre mixing there and created something new.

I would love to see another scifi movie from wimmer. Maybe an adaptation. He has a distinctive visual style and is innovative when it comes to action, even in UV. Most importantly, he can work with actors and understands the importnance of characterization.
I'd like to see him do a movie with lasers. Gun Kata would look nice with laser beams.

I'd like to see him do "Ginger Snaps 4: Brigitte Takes Vancouver." I'd write him a cheque to help out with that. Especially if I got a cameo as a victim, eh?

What's wrong with genre directors? If it's what he wants to do then I see no problem with it. When I heard him speak eons ago, he was interested in everything in terms of genre, and films that would be considered R or NC-17. Like every sane person on the planet, he's not a big fan of the ratings system. When questioned about what he would like to do, he said he had a script about married serial killers. I rather want to see that.
