Hey guys. I know I haven't posted in forever but I just heard about this news and figured all the Kurt Wimmer fans would like to know about this. www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=22499Tom Cruise to Play Edwin A. Salt Source: Variety July 22, 2007 Columbia Pictures is in talks with Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, upcoming Reservation Road) to direct Edwin A. Salt, a Kurt Wimmer-scripted drama that is being developed as a star vehicle for Tom Cruise, reports Variety. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash are producing. The studio's hope is for Cruise to play the title character, a CIA officer who is fingered by a defector as a Russian sleeper spy. Salt must elude capture by his superiors and sets out to reunite with his family and prove his innocence. Cruise has been busy this year making the Robert Redford-directed Lions for Lambs and the Bryan Singer-directed Valkyrie for United Artists. He has been eyeing several other projects for his next film. Another possibility is a remake of the Doris Dorrie-directed German comedy Men, which has director Todd Phillips attached at Warner Bros. -------------------------------- Sounds like a good thriller. I'm glad to see Kurt's name popping up again, especially with such a high profile project. Here's another little bit of information that comes from a Q&A that IGN did with Wimmer back in '02 while promoting EQUILIBRIUM. What is your next project?"A screenplay I've written called The Far-Reaching Philosophy of Edwin A. Salt. It's very much about me and my wife."movies.ign.com/articles/379/379004p1.htmlInteresting.

I've never been so glad to see that munchkin Scientologist's name associated with something. That will make it a A-listed film. Unfortunately, it's the deranged munchkin Scientologist...so it could backfire. Which leads me to AikidoAl's Rules of Life #1: The more Tom Cruise's character gets punished in a film, the better the film is. Proof? Mission Impossible 2: narely a scratch...just running and jumping and lots of ego. Last Samurai: Beaten senseless and forced to actually act. Good film.

Last Samurai: Beaten senseless and forced to actually act. Good film. Oh man do I agree!! I also thought he was good in Colateral. Before that I did not care for him much. If this gets Wimmer noticed more I'm all for it.

Seems like this film is currently in production hell as a result of the choas of the writer's strike: www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/entertainment/story.html?id=af57c6dd-a95a-43f9-a226-59c78c6434dfPlease keep in mind that the above article was written before the strike was over. of particular interest to us... Columbia's Tom Cruise vehicle Edwin A. Salt also hit some development roadblocks and appears to be in limbo. After director Terry George left the project last year, Michael Mann was in talks to helm, but only if there was a rewrite, which was impossible with the strike. And to add to that, Mann left the project so he could do Public Enemies, which is the Depp/Bale vehicle of sorts. D'oH!
