This topic may be odd, for most of you have seen this movie long time ago. But I think, the very first thought about something tells very much about this thing and it's in some way more reliable than e.g. "objective" reviews. It would be interesting to gather those impressions. Ok, I'll start from myself. My very first thought was:
Gosh, who is this guy? ( about Bale ) He was awesome!!
The thoughts about, how good is this movie came right after that.

My first thought was to grab a load more people and go back to see the film the next night. My state of mind can be summed up by the following smileys. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) The only other film that ever did that to me was The Matrix. That night, I hit the web, desperate for any EQ related content, my mind screeming for more Preston, more Mary, more Libria, more Gun-Kata, more Clerics. And I found this website. ;D Many Thanks JenGe, I'd have gone utterly mad if there was nothing out there to feed my EQ needs until the DVD came out. Mad I tell you!.

I felt completely and utterly stunned on all levels. Only four films to date have had this effect on me; EQ, Matrix, Gladiator & Pitch Black. I didn't even move while watching the credits. All the depth, concepts, emotions, action/Gun Kata was digesting in my mind. I need more...lots more. How could this small film blow away all the budget laden action flicks of 2002??
Went home to find the official site...none existed. Went to IMDb to find out more about Wimmer. Amazing!! His first film?? Then started posting on their message board (the first time I'd done so since my obsession with Matrix.) Found other fans and learned about CHUD, their interview with Wimmer, & their message board. Still couldn't get enough. Ran searches on Google...
I was addicted...I needed more. Saw the film 5 times in its two week limited run but that wasn't enough & this site is now the results...

I have to agree with JenGe on the movies she picked. I'd have to add Conan the Barbarian to it (that might just be because I was in Spain during the shooting of it back in 81-82), but that's definitely one of the few movies that have captivated my thinking process. I'm addicted, plain and simple. In this, Equilibrium has hit its mark, as Kurt Wimmer stated in one of his interviews about movies being legal drugs and he wants to get everyone addicted. I'm there and I don't want therapy or rehab to cure me ;D
As for what I said after, nothing. What could I say? I was speechless. I was probably thinking F***!! I gotta turn this back in! ;D

Cleric Baltaak, this movie is VERY addictive. I saw it in theater on 3rd of August and few days earlier on my computer. My God, I'm still not able to leave the world of Libria. I can't recall any other movie, which has done this to me.
Now I'm working on a fanfic, which suppose to be a sort of prequel to Equilibrium. ( It may take some time. Now I'm thinking about the plot, then I'm going to start writing this in Polish, and in the end I'm going to start translating this into English). You see, I'm very seriously addicted. And I don't want to be cured.
Maybe in the future AE ( Anonymous Equilibriumholics ) groups will have to be created? Who knows? ;D

My first thought was, WOW, a movie better than The Matrix! I was ecstatic to find such a high quality film; films disappoint me so much these days. I was enthralled and in love with EQ immediately. When I saw that first action scene in the dark lit only by the gunfire, I was beside myself with glee! And as the movie progressed, I thought, Finally...a great action movie with a brain! So in love with the film, so in love with the actors, so in love with the Writer/Director. And when I found out about the $20 million budget and the 54 days of filming, I was further astounded and impressed. Oh, and don't get me started on how AWESOME the gun kata is! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D ;D ;D

Now OT: It's interesting, that in the USA $20 million dollar budget is considered very small ( compare e.g. "Titanic" ) and in Poland a movie with that budget is considered a high-budget picture. I'll give you an example: last year the movie "Quo vadis" with $18 million budget was shot. The expectations were very high. But the result... Believe me, you wouldn't like to see this crap. FX in Wimmer's movie were FAR better than in "Quo vadis". How did Kurt do that? How?? I guess this will remain a mystery for me...

The camera work was a class act for their limitations as he talks about the first gun-kata sequence on swinging the camera around when Preston surfs in on the blown door to get a side shot to a front shot. Budget was a constraint, but the cameraman said he had it covered. Indeed, he did!!! That was simply amazing. Imagine if they gave Kurt a bigger budget ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Wimmer has an eye for framing and executing shots that I rarely see, especially in action films. It reminds me of comic book framing. Each shot is almost like a comic book frame on its own. You can see that detail in all those screen caps in the gallery...I think this type of filming gives a movie more energy & interest. I wish more comic book films would incorporate it.

. How could this small film blow away all the budget laden action flicks of 2002?? Because Wimmer's passion made this film unique, almost an exclusive experience and a rare treasure these days. His enthusiasm is visible in every scene and that same enthusiasm affects you like a very special kind of magic. The same sincere, pure emotions (and Gun-Kata of course ;D) in EQ, cause you fall under it's spell. Frankly, smaller budget was an advantage and Kurt made good use of every dollar he had been given. I didn't notice even one redundant scene, not even one wasted minute. It's really strange that Equilibrium got only limitted release in US (still bugging me, but I don't want to start it all over again)... Haha, that same thing crossed my mind... "Hi, my name is..., I'm...years old and been addict since I remember..." Oh yeah, KURT WIMMER IS AN ACTION MOVIE GOD ;D ;D ;D

I can't get over this film.
I was dragged to it by a mate, we just went to see it to waste and evening and now I'm absolutely HOOKED on it. I love it... Lots.
The whole thing is AMAZINGLY shot... Especially the way the tones of color are shot differently for people who are feeling and for those who aren't. Its amazing. Every last second of it.
This film blew me away, it had a more profound effect on me than the Matrix. And that says A LOT.
Does anyone know if there is a Sequel/Prequel even in Kirks amazing mind? I'd actually go mental with joy if there was one planned... Cos I need more. Lots more.
I wanna see Sean Bean do Gun-Kata LOL.
Has anyone else noticed that Sean Bean dies in almost every film hes in?

Dimension for the most part seems to be ignoring the film and doing as little as they can for it (no EQ trailers on their other DVD releases, soundtrack etc). Wimmer has stated that if there is one he doesn't plan on being involved. You might be interested in Wimmer's current project Ultraviolet where he's planning to incorporate much of what he began with the Gun Kata in EQ and refining it. For more info on Ultraviolet see this thread... equilibrium.proboards17.com/index.cgi?board=general&thread=1054333849&action=display&start=0I also have info links on my main site but currently the server is down.

What I first thought and I'm STILL thinking is why I had never heard of this movie before? I was introduced to EQ by a downloaded copy that was filmed by a camcorder in a theatre. why!WHY! Then I got over that and proceeded to watch the movie over and over again.

First thought: OMG, did they just fight hand-to-hand with GUNS?!
I think the gun-kata was the thing that tipped me over into EQ-obsessed land - the way that the Clerics moved so fast that it looked like a series of stances with no movement inbetween was masterful. Also, the slow awakening that Preston undergoes was really well done, and I thought it was really well acted.
I loved the way in which Preston was much more powerful than DuPont or Brandt realised - taking out six top Clerics in a few seconds - but felt a little let-down that Brandt was dispatched so easily (come on, a katana dual would have been cool!)
Shame Sean Bean wasn't in it much - I would've loved to see him and Bale duke it out in a dual-gun Cleric battle.
Although the story was cobbled together from various bits of Orwell, Huxley, Bradbury with a fair sprinkling of Nazism (just look at Libria's symbol!) it presented these old themes in a new, thought-provoking way.
Although I'd love to see a sequel, exploring more of this fantastic world, I think EQ ended on exactly the right note, and another film might degrade the finale.
As for the Matrix? Stuff it. Equilibrium was by far a better film, and perhaps even *because* it was so low-profile.

As for the Matrix? Stuff it. Equilibrium was by far a better film, and perhaps even *because* it was so low-profile. Deimos Equilibrium = Brain Power and more insight into the human spirit. Emotion is what makes us the #1 animal in the food chain... Matrix = Action, Action, Action..!!! The premise for the story is great, but character evolution is not as profound or singular as in EQ. The similarity that they share is a singular entity trying to control the population and the fight against it. Matrix is more on the line of destruction, EQ more so on spiritual domination...

My first reaction was---What a truly GREAT movie and why had I not heard of it before?
After doing some research, I decided that this movie was going to be one that I purchased through a movie club to which I belong. I am an "older" lady who admires scifi very much. I was not disappointed. I want to watch it again and again. Very stylish. I enjoyed it as much and perhaps more than The Matrix. I am not usually a martial arts admirer, but I loved this movie's gun-kata concept.
As for Christian Bale, I remember him as a young lad in Empire of the Sun. He grew up NICELY!!! LOL
