whats this film all about I have not heard much about it underworld is going to rule this fall i think, the trailers are sick, at first I was like "Is this Wimmer's new movie?" I know its not but still.... "Royal Navy Capt. Jack Aubrey is a soldier [sic] given his first command of a British sailing vessel sent to battle. Based on the book, which has been adapted by Peter Weir, the screenplay is as much about the machinations of managing such a wind-powered vessel and its large crew as it is about actually battling French warships and pirates on the high seas." (Variety 1/16/02) "Based on the best-selling novels of Patrick O'Brian, the film stars Russell Crowe as "Lucky" Jack Aubrey, who pits his crew of the H.M.S. Surprise against a much better armed and ruthless privateer, in a chase that takes him all the way to the far side of the world. Rising newcomer Paul Bettany ("A Beautiful Mind") plays the ship's surgeon Dr. Stephen Maturin. I cannot wait for Matrix Revolutions. Does anyone know if it's opening in the U.S. on November 5 or 7?
And I'm REALLY looking forward to Underworld.

Saw The Order last night and I loved it. I've been reading other people's comments and most seem to hate it. Its slow, methodical, filled with religious connotations as well as style. Certainly not a film for every one. If you enjoy films like Angel Heart or Seventh Sign you may like it but then I am hopelessly bias about both Ledger and Helgeland so my perspective may not be reliable.
Something Awesome though!!! Alien is being re-released in the theaters in October as a Director's cut. My movie geek madness is in overdrive!! I missed it's original theatrical run and most certainly won't miss it this time!!

I loved Angel Heart and Alien being re-released is awesome! When I went to see it a long time ago, it was the only movie I ever covered my eyes (the part where the alien pops out of his chest). Then I took one of my girlfriends, who was very squeamish, to see it, lol. I'll have to check it out.

I made the same mistake/comparison. Ultraviolet/Underworld...vampires... To confuse the situation even more both films are being done by Sony's Screen Gems...Just FYI... The Director's cut of Alien in October?! I hadn't heard about this. Thanks, JenGe! Yea, there was a trailer for it just before The Order...I'll go see if I can find anything on-line about it...

I don't think that The Order is anywhere near as good as Angel Heart but it does have a similar feel to it.

I saw two films yesterday and here are some thoughts...no spoilers.
Matchstick Men - another nice ambiance film from Scott & I really enjoyed it though I can't see it as one I'd add to my DVD collection.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico - A real snoozer IMHO. After seeing EQ, Wimmer has spoiled me for most action flicks. I don't understand how some of these new films actually make action seem boring?? Depp was excellent though as usual.
Trailers...FINALLY caught The Alamo...could be interesting. Master & Commander already has my ticket bought with just the mention of Weir. Mystic River is actually looking like one I might catch...have enjoyed Kevin Bacon since Footloose...one of the few guys beside Bale who can play both charming and creepy with equal finesse.
One more week until Underworld...

Saw Tears of the Sun yesterday... took it's damn time reaching UK cinemas, but well worth the wait. Some of the most realistic combat scenes i've ever seen, i actually came out of the cinema with my hands shaking from adrenaline Very powerful "message" film as well, not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach...

Depp was excellent though as usual. I felt the same way. This was my most anticipated movie of late summer. The trailer was great but the final product was just lacking. OUATIM didn't even come close to Desperado in terms of being a fun movie with over-the-top action scenes. I thought Rodriguez went overboard with the editing and wirework in this one. Way too many characters also. As for my most anticipated in the fall I'll go with Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and Return of the King. I never thought I would be anticipating anything with Michael Bay's name attached to it but I got sold on TCM's trailer. I'm a sucker for a trailer that uses music effectively with unique editing.

The minuit I heard the description "Kate Beckensale goes Gothic in Leather as a vampire/twin-gun warrior" I was scrabbling at the phone to book tickets for Underworld. Friday is Underworld day. ;D I'm really looking forward to "Once up a Time", but the negative rep I'm hearing is making me worried because I love "Desperado" so much. (Crosses fingers) Don't let me down, Rob. Don't let me down...
