Look What I found: www.thezreview.co.uk/comingsoon/e/equilibrium2.htmWednesday 4th December 2002: Equilibrium 2 Update:Director Kurt Wimmer has announced in an interview that there is likely to be a sequel to his soon to be released Equilibrium "I'll bet you money they'll make a second one. It'll probably be straight-to-video, I don't know, but they're not thinking of it now, but I'll bet you they will and it'll be horrible. I have no interest. It's one of those things that I don't think requires a sequel. The ideas I like in the movie, I will take them and I will continue them – maybe not quite so specifically, but there's a whole history and depth to the gunkata that I didn't even get to scratch the surface of in Equilibrium because I just didn't have the time or the money to do it, but I have just so many ideas that I think are super-cool that are based in that sort of realm that I want to put in a number of films. _____________________ Sorry if this is old news to you guys, but I just came across it. Its dated ages ago though.

I fully understand Wimmer's point of view.
However, I still wish for a prequel, because they now have to rebuild a new society & there will be a lot of anger around now when there's no more Prozium to take. The Clerics are still needed, to still bring order, but not without mercy this time. And who is better than to lead the Cleric Force than Preston?
But I want no sequel, no matter what it's about, if Wimmer doesn't do it. He knows what's going on in this particular future better than anyone else. And without him handling it, it'll be like unrestrained emotions = chaos! And, also, who wants to see a sequel without Bale? And would he like to return? I doubt it, unless Wimmer wants to do it again.
It looks a bit grim at the moment, but it's better to have no movie rather than crap. It would just ruin what the first film created.
