Did anyone notice that statue of the guy holding the world on his back? The continents of the world shown there are all messed up and moved around and some don't even exist anymore.
It looked like North America was pretty much the same, but South America had moved far to the East, Africa had sunk into the ocean, the South oceans of Asia now had islands popping up that didn't exist before, and I think even Asia looked a little wierd.
I thought it was pretty interesting that they had this. Kind of indicates that the WWIII that took place didn't just include nuclear weapons, but other weapons that could reshape the entire planet.

Is this the one... ;D Yea, I noticed the globe right off. I'd have to say it was a great added touch to the film. Very subtle.

I believe that is a picture of America there. The thing to the far west I guess is California, to the South is Central America, and that little glimpse of a piece of land over his shoulder is part of South America.
I hadn't noticed before, but it looks like America is even near the equator in that picture if not right on it. From what I've seen in the pictures of the world, it looks like Europe is the only nation still in roughly the same place and shape as they are today. Guess they may have been in control of what was happening to the world.

Cool, I never really noticed that. I think that the man holding up the world is Atlas. Atlas is a character in Greek mythology who was said to be holding the world up on his shoulders. There's a little etiology for you.

The scene that I absolutely love with the "Atlas" figure (if it is) is the one where Preston is on his knees just after being taken prisoner. If you look at the set up of the shot... just a few frames after he spits out the blood ... "Atlas" is to the left of the frame and appears to be looking straight at Preston. Wonderful touch!!!

When I seen it the first time I was thinking how Wimmer sure paid good attention to details! Thats the type of scene that makes a movie seem a lot more realistic and interesting. Gotta respect that about Wimmer!
