I started this one to keep movies and TV shows separate, because the other thread might get too unwieldy. My vote for best detective series ever, so far: "The Bridge." a Danish/ Swedish series from last year. Its beginning point is a corpse found on the Oresund bridge which links Denmark and Sweden, and jurisdiction on the case must be shared between the countries. Denmark is represented by Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia), a detective who is recovering from a painful medical operation, and Sweden by Saga Noren (Sofia Helin), who appears to have Asperger's syndrome. Together they must hunt a brilliant killer with a political agenda and it is perhaps only their weird combination of talents which has any chance of unmasking him. www.imdb.com/title/tt1733785/

Another terrific TV series we love: "Luther" starring Idris Elba as DCI John Luther, a homicide detective in the Metro police. He has one foot outside the law sometimes, though, because as an unofficial associate he sometimes calls upon Alice Morgan (played by Ruth Wilson), a sociopathic woman of high intelligence who once committed a perfect crime, which Luther knows but for which he cannot arrest her because of lack of evidence. Very good, gritty British police action--watch out for the thick London accents sometimes though. www.imdb.com/title/tt1474684/

Or did you just rent the video? In this film the criminal Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) seems very brilliant. Idris Elba was also in Prometheus, definitely worth seeing.
