I wish to start a modest database here on which movies we think--based on viewing--are better if seen in extended/director's versions rather than theatrical versions. I am by no means always in favour of extended versions, sometimes I think they contain extraneous or unnecessary material. However, there are some that I would recommend that if you see them, DO see the extended versions. I will start off with a few:
1. "Curse Of The Ring" --it goes by many titles but I mean the 2004 movie starring Benno Furmann. Robert Pattinson, and Kristanna Loken.
2. "Kingdom Of Heaven."
3. "Troy." I can't imagine a shorter cut of this one that would work for me.
4. "Ultraviolet." The extended version is hard to find but the six missing minutes are all backstory that makes sense of everything else you see.
Anyone else? ;D

First thing coming to my mind is definitely "Aliens" by James Cameron.
The normal version feels like something essential is missing, though the missing scenes are not absolutely necessary for the plot...
Otherwise I have to think a bit longer about that as in most cases I watch one version of a film and don't compare too much... Often I don't even know that there's a directors cut of a movie and discover them by accident usually, though I must admit that directors cuts are often really better somehow...
By the way, has anyone ever heard of another cut of EQ? Don't know, if I'd watch it, but it would be interesting to know.

The original project was so beset with difficulties that it's a minor wonder any version was ever released.

Aliens is one of the best I like the longer cut of Terminator 2 as well The Abyss directors cut is fantastic....hmm all James Cameron films.....
Not so much a directors cut as much as a re-edit but the new cut of Last Of the mohicans is better than the original
