So, I'm pretty curious about everyone's opinion on this.
Tetragrammaton apparently is taken from Jehovah or something (I'm no linguist), and the coat is like a deacon's, but were there any other "religious" motivations behind the filmmakers story? "Father" and "Cleric" make me wonder if Wimmer & co. are slightly anti-religion. Just curious, that's all.
Sound off!

I believe "Equilibrium" and "Ultraviolet" (by the same writer/director) are similar. Both may appear to have anti-religious overtones, but I think what you see is that in both cases the 'religion' that the protagonists set themselves against--from the outset in UV and eventually in EQ--is a sham religion run by the baddies for their own purposes, and that both heroes follow an 'inner light' which you could call spiritual if you wanted to--albeit a muscular and primitive spirituality. I once wrote a long essay on the religious symbolism of UV in which it is more explicit but it is there in EQ too. I say this as a person with a postgraduate degree in theology, and who in a professional capacity screens applicants for a large and well-known religious organisation.
