Well ... to me it's understandable. She's a total hottie, dude. Caring, feeling, etc. And dumped by her husband because of her disease ... which is a disease Garth also has. It also explains why Garth helps her out so much (for free yet ... ) As a fellow 'phage, she is physically available to him, while ordinary humans wouldn't be--not to ethical 'phages like them anyway. And he's a doctor ... she's a nurse ... even the bonds of professionalism tie them, as doctors and nurses--like police and military personnel--often have professional issues invade their personal lives, which can wreck relationships with others outside their field, who often give that short shrift. I hardly see how he can NOT love her given all that.

Just saw this post and thought I would share this with you! I looked through the book, because I knew that somewhere I read it! Taken from the book: Page 241: His blue eyes were wide and this close, Violet could see that now he was nearly crying. "Isn't it---" he began, then shook his head as his voice choked. His voice was thick with anguish as he tried again. "Isn't it obvious?" She glared at him, eye to eye, then flushed and released her hold on his shirt. Her hands fell to her sides as she stepped back and her gaze on him changed into dismay. Dear God--- He was in love with her. For everybody who likes Ultraviolet and wants to know how the Directors Cut would have been. Get the novel, it's worth it!

For everybody who likes Ultraviolet and wants to know how the Directors Cut would have been. Get the novel, it's worth it! I agree insofar as the novel is 99% faithful to the movie, where it describes what happens on the screen, and supplies backstory that can only have been garnered from a look at Wimmer's original script. However, literature it ain't. I have problems with the author's handling of fight sequences, and at one or two points she deliberately took a decent line from the movie and altered it to something both cheesy and nonsensical. Still, for UV culties like myself-- full disclosure: I only got interested in EQ because I liked UV and wanted to see what else Wimmer had done--it's worth the purchase price for the backstory it supplies, which actually makes sense out of some of the confusing editing. I've always said that what UV needed even more than a novelisation was a good graphic novel adaptation; which could supply the backstory as well as other things. Mandatory Aedh disclaimer, v3: This statement is a matter of strictly personal, subjective taste, proffered for entertainment value only; and in no way intended to be prejudicial or demeaning toward, or dismissive of, any person, or persons, or organisation, belief, or creed in any way whatsoever. Had the world been a slightly different place, Aedh might in fact chance to be a HUGE fan of the work, person, or event referenced, but alas, it was not to be. Aedh wishes to express his deeply felt personal respect for all those, on this board and off, who actually are fans of work, person, or event referenced. By replying to this post, you signify your acceptance of the abovegoing, as well as the proposition that Aedh (if a bit eccentric) is a decent fellow, without prejudice to your rights to take up differences as provided on the “Is Aedh a bloody snob?” thread.

If only they could have gotten Frank Miller to do a GN for UV in a style similar to Sin City. Then again I'm a huge Frank Miller fan so he's my first choice for that kind of thing if it ever happened. I agree with you there Aedh, there's something lost in the fight scenes but the backstory is worth the price of the book and helps to fill in those gaps that are left out in the movie too.
