What do people think about the pics? I'm a fan of Wimmer and was expecting some good stuff, but the pics look way too campy for the film that I had been imagining. Milla in my opinion doesn't look to great either, she was way better in Resident Evil (though i actually prefer dark hair on a woman).
Anywho, hopefully it'll be much darker and these pics are just fun on the set. That one shot looks like Charlies Angels. That makes me shudder.

Well look at it this way, if we anticipated Equilibrium the way we're anticipating thi smovie, we probably would have had similar reactions.
"WTF is Christian Bale dressed in? That looks like Neo! That's sooo 1999! And the German Olympic Stadium? You've gotta be kidding!" you know? However, seeing the film without the hype, we look past the clothing (which is nevertheless awesome) and see the movie for what it is, the new standard of underdog action movies that are better than the more expensive, glitzy stuff with the rap music and subliminal advertising.
I'm not worried about the look of Violet. I'm sure she'll be as good a character as John Preston. I havent stopped being excited about this movie. It's going to kick ass.

What do people think about the pics? I'm a fan of Wimmer and was expecting some good stuff, but the pics look way too campy for the film that I had been imagining... Here are my thoughts... EQ was a darker film with the gray/black overtones...very much having a gothic feel. When I first saw the conceptuals of UV I realized that it would be a different film in tone then Equilibrium was. The colors were much brighter. Yes, personally I tend to prefer the dark, Poe look but Wimmer did have a point. In one of the early interviews he stated... "Equally important [to me] is that I want to make this film as an absolute design exercise...I want to create a futuristic world that is totally design-oriented in a way that's never been seen before. To my eye, almost all science fiction films are the misbegotten stepchildren of BLADE RUNNER. I can think of very few if any other examples. BLADE RUNNER is great, but I'm sick of that and I've got what I think are great ideas for creating a bold and strikingly different new world." - Kurt Wimmer, FangoriaBesides if the action & tension comes even close to EQ's I'll be more then happy.

Well look at it this way, if we anticipated Equilibrium the way we're anticipating thi smovie, we probably would have had similar reactions. I think you have a very good point. I remember watching the internet flare up with X-Men fan boys when they first saw shots of Storm's wig. You would have thought that Singer had commited a mortal sin or something. It was silly. In fact this is one of the reasons I actually shy away of pre-film hype because it is never really presented correctly until in the final product. Early Punisher shots come to mind as well. If I had only seen those & not the trailer I would never set foot in the theater to see that film.

I found the following while running some searches. Not sure if it's an exact translation or not of the article/articles these pictures were from. "(2/22/2004) Hollywood film ULTRAVIOLET yesterday continued production in Hong Kong. Lead actress Milla Jovovich appeared early on the set and waved to the press."www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/2038/040222.html (scroll to about mid page)
