Hey everyone, Film Jerk has posted up a review of the Ultraviolet script. Be careful as there are major story spoilers inside. www.filmjerk.com/nuke/article759.htmlHe's pretty harsh on it. If there's a bright spot here tho it's that the author obviously didn't like Equilibrium either, and he seems to just have a negative opinion of Wimmer in general. But at any rate it's neat to hear more about this movie.

I won't read it since I hate spoilers but thanks for the link!! I did notice on another forum that he posted on that he mentioned he gave the script a D. I'd better not say anything...my computer might go off...

Actually I am going to say something...I'm going to quote Wimmer himself... "Fuck the critics. Why would I make a movie for someone I wouldn't want to hang out with? Have you ever met a critic who you wanted to party with? I haven't. All the critics I've ever met are frankly boring people who, in my opinion, are the ultimate parasites. They create nothing; existing only by feasting on the bodies of the living - eunuchs at a gang-bang. (Apologies to all the exceedingly cool and dashing critics with electrifying personalities out there.) I'm making films for people who walk into the theater with only one requirement - to be entertained. Yes, though many movie-goers do pay attention to them because life is unfortunately too short to judge everything for yourself." - Sci/fi Dimentions Interview Nothing need be added to that...

Ok, I've allowed the pounding in my ears to subside a bit ;D so now I think I might be able to make my own coherent statement. Of course realize that I, just as the reviewer of the script, am already tainted by my own biases & opinion. Neither one of us are truly objective. That being said here is what I have to say...
Upon reading even EQ's script I can see how any reviewer prior to the film's actual creation might not be able to catch Wimmer's vision. It states very little of the action, the characters, or the filming (unless he is reviewing a shooting script). Several things that drew me personally into Equilibrium (the film) were the performances of the actors, the music, the comic-book framing of the shots, the symbolism, & the gun kata action. None of these are ever conveyed adequately in a script in my hum. op. but are only realized in its finality on the screen.

I agree, it is pretty silly to review the script for a movie. Especially an action movie, since no amount of words on a page can give you an idea of what the director has in mind.
EQ was reviewed very, very harshly. I think it was the film that stopped me from reading reviews. I used to consult reviews and test screening reviews for almost every film. But EQ came in under my radar, and I literally didn't know what it was until I saw the trailer for it online. Luckily, my area was one of the lucky cities to get the film on opening. I saw it and was blown away, it was one of the greatest film experiences of my life. Afterwards, I read all the reviews and was horrified by how far off the mark the critics were. No one could see it for what it was, and that turned me off to reviewers forever.
To me, once you become a film reviewer, you stop enjoying movies. I don't know what it is, maybe they feel so much pressure to sound intelligent and hip about movies.. but to me, the fact that they have to review a film makes it impossible for them to enjoy it fully without making unfair comparisons or finding nitpicky flaws.
At any rate, I think this script review is cool just for the fact that it gives you an idea of what Ultraviolet is going to be like. I am extremely excited about it. However, you can't let your love of EQ blind you from the fact that Ultraviolet may end up being a bad movie. I have confidence in Kurt, tho.

it is pretty rediculous to state an opinion for a movie based off of its script. whats the point?
-the script is sort of like the note cards you use in writing a speech. there is a lot more to a movie besides the lines of text written in its script. those things are the meat and bones and heart of the entire movie. anyone who isnt willing to realize that shouldnt be writing movie review in the first place. go write novel reviews instead.

I'd just take a moment to recall the episode of Room 101 (UK show where celebrities are given the chance to bitch about things they hate) where Stephen Fry went on about critics. There was a fantastically funny bit where he was describing them at the Pearly Gates talking to St. Peter... "So, your entire life has been spent pointing out the problems in other people's work?" etc etc Deimos

I'm making films for people who walk into the theater with only one requirement - to be entertained. And thats all that ever needed to be said. I'll be going to see Ultraviolet regardless, and I'll be staying away from all reviews. Wimmer tells a good story & I want to experience it untainted by some one elses opinion.

That makes two of us, MisterAnderson
I don't think it's humanly possible for Ultraviolet to suck. They're giving Mr. Wimmer more money and more time. And Milla Jovovich is in it.

Confusedious Say: Critics are like assholes, everyone has one, and most of them stink.hahahahaha ;D i remember critics deterred me from EQ too, despite the fact that just HEARING about the movie made me wanna watch it. but then a friend brought it over saying it was so great, and i was like hey i wanted to watch it anyway, and i loved it! so screw the critics, they can go home and sit on their thumbs.... oh and i'm not reading the script either, i'd rather wait for the movie...when's it due out anyway?
