For those who don't know, Ultraviolet is Kurt Wimmer's next picture. It's going to star Milla Jovovich and Cameron Bright.
Production is scheduled to start in Shanghai in December. The budget is reported to be 30 million dollars, that is only a 10 million dollar difference from Equilibrium's budget.
That really sucks. Kurt Wimmer is one of today's most brilliant up-and-coming filmmakers, and Dimension made a HUGE mistake not increasing EQ's budget and giving it the wide release it deserved.
On the other hand, Kurt took 20 million bucks, and made a movie that seemed MUCH more expensive. Imagine what he could do with the extra ten million, and hopefully a longer shooting schedule. If he could shoot one of the greatest action movies ever made in 54 days, I can't wait to see what he can do with "more."
I just hope Kurt follows the same path he did with Equilibrium. I'm very optimistic about Ultraviolet. Look closely when you watch it; I'm willing to bet my left nipple that there will be some sort of tie to EQ in there somewhere, subliminal or not.

There are a few other threads around here somewhere that has more info on this (don't have the time to find it right now) but if I remember correctly Wimmer is suppose to get over 100 days for shooting. There are also a few quotes from him about using the Gun Kata style in the way that he originally wanted to do it in EQ but could not due to the constraints. I do have more info & links on my Equilibrium Center page... www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/equilibriumcenter.htmHave you seen the conceptual art & info on CHUD?? www.chud.com/news/mar03/mar28uv.php3

I wish Kurt would come to Australia.
I know we can give him more 'bang for his buck'.
Its certainly worked that way for the Wachowskis & George Lucas.

I know this might sound stupid, but is there any way we can send Kurt our best wishes for the project?
I think it would be kinda nice for the guy who created the film we all love to know that there's a whole lotta people who are rooting for him to succeed with UltraViolet, and who thought the Critics were idiots when it came to EQ.
Maybe I'm just an old sentimental fool, but I think a "Hey Kurt, really appreaciate your work, man" from the EQ community would be a big boost to the guy on the eve of shooting his next film.

WOOW.......just got the news today......Finding it here...Must be real......WooW First of all, I want 2 thank u 4 not Turning Equi' into a dull movie 4 the deranget (who do not posses a liking 4 anything thats not made by the all present Hollywood concepts of Moviemaking) U did a real good job....... I speak on the behalf off myself and the other 2018 members of my organisation (last count 9oct) We do a lot off things, others would regard as.......... well im not permittet 2 say. Now u are off 2 make a new movie, I personely wish u the best off luck. The only thing that irritates mee is, not knowing how the movie will turn out, or if u have 2 compromise 2 satisfy the investors....... Maybee Ultraviolet will contain the following....... A really nice script (something never seen before) A story full of twist and turns......without detroying the feeling of something Dark and twisted (its about the undead isnt it) Actions that takes great pain 2 see (u know really scary, without beeing Morbid) A movie that is realistic concerning the fundamentels off gun handlig. A main character, that is neither a happy person or a naive hillbilly (no offence....please) A Funnysidekick that dosent make it trough the first 2 min off the movie..... Well I do expect much from U, but as long its not a happy movie. U will be safe........ From us angry fans. Just remember, doeing a dirty job gets U dirty and people tend 2 stay dirty all the way throug. U know killing undead isnt actualy a nice job. Oh please make sure the main charactor, dosent close their eyes when they are shoting in the movie, its wery unprofesional.....even if its the first time they are trying to kill something. The best off luck from Denmark stonedproduktions Dir. E Octaviouse. (dont mind the spelling mistakes) Im not used 2 English

Talked with the wimmer the other day and he tells me that he has a 154 day shoot. Most of it is in Shanghai. So that 30 mil budget's gonna look more like 80 mil because of the cheap labor. I don't think youtr gonna see CGI chractor animation but your going to see lots of cgi cityscapes and vehicles.

Well, I already know that over half of the filming was done in Hong Kong but they should be on to Shanghai by now. Check this out (though they do get the budget wrong. ) From A Hong Kong Gov. Newsletter...(see page 5) Hollywood’s $300 million Production Sets the Stage in Hong Kong[/u] (the actual budget is 30 mil, someone added a zero.) "Hollywood’s $300-million sci-fi Ultraviolet (directed by Kurt Wimmer) is at the height of pre-production in Hong Kong. Starring Milla Jovovich of The Fifth Element, the director decided to shoot 80% of the film in Hong Kong — a leap from 20% in the original plan, and to extend the period of filming from February to May. As the story takes place a millennium from now, the first crew arriving at Hong Kong last November was mainly engaged in scouting about for modern buildings. We helped them with work visa applications to the Immigration Department and location scouting. So following Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Hong Kong’s unique cityscape will be laid once again before the eyes of the world. The film company will hire 120 local film workers, which is expected to benefit the economy."

Hollywood’s $300-million sci-fi Ultraviolet (directed by Kurt Wimmer) Whoo-haa! 300-mill!!!!! If only! I wonder if Kurt Wimmer read that, then went running to Lucas Foster yelling "IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW!!??" ;D

I just found this in the Coolhand Film News... ;D
Sony pictures today put out a press release, stating that the long delayed UltraViolet will finally get it's theatrical release. Once the shining hope of upcoming talent Kurt Wimmer, the film has become synonymous with financial irregularity and shady film dealing.
"I first though things were going wrong when Producer Lucas Foster told me that the budget would only be $30 million." mutteres Kurt Wimmer from his cardboard box in a warehouse. "I mean, we were hoping for $80, maybe even $90 million but Lucas insisted that 30 was all he could get from Sony." "I should have worked it out there and then," he added with narrowing eyes, "The Bastard was driving a new Ferrari."
More suspicions were evoked when Sony execs started to get the first rushes from the on-set production. "It was odd." said Executive Chairman Mr Innit Forthedough. "I mean, we'd given Kurt $300 million dollars, the largest budget ever in the history of film making, but the sets looked like they were made from cardboard and string. Lucas Foster kept claiming it was just placeholder until the CGI got put in, but something about the way he said it made me suspicious. Maybe it was the way that he kept polishing his diamond-topped cane with hundred dollar bills.
Mila Joj-jova-jj.....thingamabob recalls how the shooting schedule went from bad to worse. "Every day, we'd have to make cuts. First the big motorbike chase was reduced to me on a unicycle chasing a skateboard. Then the climactic, twenty minute Gun-Kata battle got cut to ten minuets, then five, then one, and in the end I just told the villain that he was a naughty man and he gave up without firing a shot. The wardrobe people got hit just as bad. My costume got simplified down to the point where I was wearing a sheet with eyeholes cut into it. When they ran out of money to cut the holes, I had a choice. Do the film naked, or quit. It didn't take me long to decide which I'd rather do."
"Every day, Lucas would come in and tell us that Sony had cut the budget." froths Wimmer, rocking slightly, and staring into space whilst his kidneys are extracted for auction on Ebay. "From 30 mill to twenty five. Then ten. In the end, I had to make an entire movie for two dollars and fifty cents. I remember the day Lucas told me it was down to six dollars. I remember it because he shouted the news to me from his private helicopter with the gold rotor blades and platinum hot-tub."
In the end, the picture was filmed in just twenty eight days, and runs for a total of ten minuets. Studio execs have decided to still release UltraViolet theatrically, partly due the "enourmous admiration we have for Wimmer's efforts, but mostly because Mila decided to do the film naked." But Kurt himself has asked to be removed from the credits. "I mean, do they seriously think this film will do us any good?" asked the once great director from the foot locker he'd been sleeping in. "At the end of the day, any movie where you have to do an insert of the director asking the audience to pretend that those bananas are real guns is going to stink."
From his luxury island fortress in the Caribbean, Lucas Foster has been quoted as shaking his fist and saying: "Bah!"
