on the imdb boards ive read that sony was mad at mila after resident evil two, i think it was because she was a producer and recived more money than she should. mila didnt repay the money and kurt probably not wanting to budge on his R rated movie made sony mad enough to take the whole damn thing over.
all of this i hope is rumor, someone needs to call kurt up and see whats goin down

Well, regardless of whether he lost final cut, that fact that it's a PG-13 and not an R already means that it is not Wimmer's original film.

The question is, how do you protest the PG-13 rating, without protesting the movie? You can't speak with your wallet, because the arrogant studio's will just say "It didn't make money because Wimmer can't write and direct". But if you do go to multiple showings, it will just reinforce the studio's view that PG-13's make money. Aggh...so annoying.
With all of the multiplexes, they should just put the PG-13 version in theater #2, and the R version in theater #23 and let us decide which we'd rather watch.
A bit of a tangent here, but I was reading an X-men 3 message board, and the kids were upset that there were rumors of it being R rated and they may not get to see it...It was kinda interesting to see that the grass really isn't greener.

Did Wimmer ever have final cut? I doubt it. He does not have the clout to get final cut at this point. Considering the depth of his talent I'm sure he will eventually but I believe he's in no position right now to demand final cut on his films...

Ok now this is me being pretty hopeful but if you consider dvd sales are huge and rake in more money, then could we maybe see 2 dvd's released? I'm hoping that they 'know' it's going to be a hit. So they can release the dvd and then get a directors cut out a few months later and cash in. I know that isn't what is happening, but it's what I like to think

I don't think he's very happy with the film. In fact I've heard through a source in the Hollywood grapevine that he's not happy at all. (and its a pretty dependable source - that I'm not able to go into till after Mar 3rd

What strikes as rather odd about this whole "PG-13 toning down" issue is that, in some ways, it flies in the face of basic marketing rule. For any product, you must know your audience or market. For this film, there was already a sizeable audience in waiting in the form of EQ fans, action fans, and sci-fi genre fans. People who would not have a problem with an R rated cut, in fact people such as myself (an EQ fan, an action fan as well as a Sci-fi fan) who were rather looking forwards to a bone crunching, cap-popping "Full-Wimmer." By watering down the contact of the action, (arguably one of THE big selling points in any sci-fi action film) you are weakening your impact with the MARKET PLACE. Who are the same people who go to watch, say, Underworld evolution or the Matrix. Both of which are R rated for their violence. Both of which have made a lot of money despite that rating. Basically, the target audience for UV. I'll wager that UV was never going to appeal to people who would otherwise be put off by an R rating. I can't see Mum (JenGe excepted ) , Gran and little Becky rushing to the cinema to see a Sci-Fi Vamp flick, but I can see a PG-13 rating puting off some people who WOULD have gone and seen it otherwise. I think the PG-13 rating will loose them money.

Elektra and Daredevil were two movies that got "harder" directors cuts put out on DVD (I think DareDevil went from being PG-13 to R. ) It DOES happen if the studio think there's money to be made in the DVD sector. Bottom line, if UV does well in the screens and on DVD, we could well see Kurt given the chance to put out his version of the movie.

Here's hoping eh? I've got a feeling this movie will do quite a bit better on DVD than in the theaters, its just a feeling.
