What's the most disappointing part of the movie in your opinion? story? acting? fight scenes? others? all? I wanted to be aware of this before I go on watching the film with my friends that I have invited, so I can tell it to them about it so that it won't feel so embarrasing to watch.

For me it was the more than obvious edits in the action sequences.

Here are a few things that I personally did not have a problem with but some people will...
1. It is way, way over the top...too over the top for some people
2. the melodrama...pulpy, comic all the way...some people do not like that especially the "park" scene
3. the style/look
4. the non stop action. EQ only had about 6 minutes of action. UV has only about 6 minutes of down time.
5. the low budget effects but if I can get past the ones in Pitch Black I can get past anything.
6. Milla...I thought she did fine as a comic character others hate her.

editing in the action sequences.
especially in the cycle chase, and all violet action scenes.
I can forgive the incomplete CGI look....
BUT you know what I REALLY couldn't take (which to most people could care less).......The soft focus look***Possibly to hide imperfections in scene quality.

I still think the script is pretty weak. It's supposed to be a pulpy comic book film but that doesn't excuse some of the dialogue and story structure. Plus, there are moments that could have worked better if the film took itself seriously, which could have been done without compromising the unique visual style of the movie.
I also think the limited budget hurt the film in a big way. What we saw last year was incomplete and didn't have that "soft focus" look so the visuals, while still cartoonish, didn't look as dark and murky. I just couldn't deal with that effect for 88 minutes.
As I've said before, the editing of the violence is another problem. It's mostly sound effects that went missing plus a couple of nasty stabbings and missing limbs, but it still hurt the flow of those scene.
The park scene was slightly improved. I remember discussing this particular moment with Kurt. It needed just a bit more build up because it comes out of nowhere. I guess he couldn't reshoot so he did the best he could by stretching the seconds between Violet on the rooftop with Six and seeing the two on the playground.

-- The dialogue even for a pulpy/comic film was awful. -- the kill the guy by his hair thing was just absurd -- terrible CGI even in a 30 mil dollar film -- the soft lense effect was distracting -- the reptitiveness of it....violet walks intoa room, poses, kills bad people, poses again.....ok next room -- was there a real plot? oh yeah there was but most was cut from the film that would have explained the little stuff -- hemophages? vampires? fangs? my friend goes where the hell did fangs come from!!!?? hes right so much unexplained -- the terrible french actor -- soundtrack was annoying IMO -- for the record I had no problems with Milla's acting.....just sad when shes the best in the film and shes not a professionally trained actor!
anyways thats just some of my quirks with it

-Plot and back story a LOT more depth -A bit disappointed by some of the music -And a lot of stuff needed explanation -The French guy. I didn't like him. -The extreme closeup of all inside of the gravity device when she turns it on. Reminded me of some power rangers or anime montage. -Final Fight, a cool idea with the burning swords, but it was badly cut and you couldn't see what's happening.
I never noticed the lens effect. Loved the look except the CGI

You know Im not to harsh ont he lens effect really because it can also depend on what theater you see the film at. We went to an older theater and there projectors may not be as good as some theaters and this can affect how a film is seen, but at the theater we saw it at, the lens effect was really annoying.

We have new Sony projectors just installed at our local theater and its a real change to see a much higher quality projected image. But when UV did that soft focus filter. I just couldn't understand why Wimmer did it to a Comic book style movie. Maybe he didn't add it...Maybe it was someone else's idea. All I know is that it was rough going for the entire 88 min.

Yeah, I didn't like the soft effect....Six would be defined, but then Violet would be all soft. The action was great...it would be nice if someone would give Kurt lots of money. The gravity shifters were cool, but the go in and see it turn on was annoying (they could have left off the motorcycle one). I didn't expect much from the story...if I had wanted a deep character driven movie, I would have seen "Brokeback Mountain"

well I hope incorporates some of those concepts in his next movie.
This UV movie is a decent stepping stone into building that visual imagination

This is true, but Kurt Wimmer seems to be an "unknown" person in Hollywood, so the suits aren't too sure about it... And yet they give someone like Boll or Paul Anderson tons of money...something wrong there.

I am a big fan of Kurt Wimmer, and came into this film in full fangirl mode to LOVE it. But, I can't. Instead I walked out going "What the hell just happened?" Good points: The sheer amount of visual style. Tons of detail. And he embraced color the way he used the monchromatic palette to effect in EQ. Loved the medical symbols mixed with religon. Didn't mind some of the "borrows" he took from EQ. Had some good ideas in terms of visuals and tech. Enjoyed the action sequences. Bad points: The editing killed it. The scene with Garth where he goes "Why don't you let anyone in" left me feeling as awkward as Anakin and Padme in Episodes 2-3. All these "character scenes" were cut to from out of nowhere, which disturbed the rthymn of the film and made them more jarring than they were. The scene in the playground really suffered, especially from how blatant it was. Some scenes actually looked like they were lifted and rearranged out of sequence. And you could tell a lot of fight sequences were cut, because they did a whole lot of "entry to fight scene" "cut to something else" "cut back to bodies on floor." Some of the dialogue...just didn't work. Some of it was just over-the-top...but I didn't catch it in a "fun" way like JenGe did. My reaction was more "did they really just say that?" Also the voiceovers seemed like a patchwork job for the edits, as they tried to inform the audience the parts that the story should have done instead. It suffered the same problem as Ecks vs. Sever. You watch that film, and you know or get the strong feeling that a story was underneath...but it got cut out. Also, I'm getting a little irritated at the "Oh well, it's a comic book film." Ok, when did comics = bad/cliched/sloppy storycrafting? Just because Hollywood can only get 1 out of 5 right doesn't mean the comics/graphic novel field is to blame. To me, that's like blaming martial arts for bad action films. PS: The Chinois fight was the one previewed at UT. It didn't have the softfocus, however Wimmer did say that the CG for it was still unfinished.

yeah, Something is very wrong when Boll makes movies (for money) and has no real imagination... and keeps getting movies to helm.
And Wimmer a highly potential and Imaginative director who has to virtually struggle to get a single scene finished and shown the way he visualizes it is beyond my comprehension.

exactly, saying its comic and pulpy is not an excuse for a bad fillm or terrible dialogue. It's funny to because when the trailer came out people we're complaining about the "are you mental?" line, well it turns out thats not that bad compared to some of the other lines in the film.
I also agree, and yes I do understand this is not a character driven movie, but the small conversation parts just seemed out of place and forced intot he film, and then the editor is like ok back to action as quickly as possible. Like I said in my original thoughts on the film, its an action orgy, which is cool and all but still doesn't make teh film work.

i love the movie......its brilliant to me...more imaginative than EQ...... i already knew all the plot points and stuff...so everything already made sense to me..... AND IM A LIL TIRED OF MOVIES THAT TAKE ITSELF TO SERIOUSLY........this one went the complete opposite way.... ....closer to the 5th element way...i guess a lot of people expected EQ2 ..... but i was more than happy with what i got..... acting...milla was perfect.....and i dont really care about anyone else's acting...because there not important......nerva was annoying...but considering hes the bad guy...well....hes saposed to be annoying.... ....the fight scenes were great.....gun-kata 2 is a lot smoother..... a lot of the charecter development is obviously cut......because it says so in the other thread.....violets dedication to 6 seems rushed....but i can live with that...because i know it was cut.... the dialog was fine.... the CGI looked just like it was from a comic book.....perfect..... overall? disapointed? ? im disapointed with this cut of the movie......I UNDERSTAND THE STORY ..... BUT THE MOVIE DOSENT LET YOU HAVE ALL OF THE STORY...... ......so my mind just kind of plugged in the things that were missing...and everything was perfect.... ....this film is brilliant......anyone who calls this a bad film.....dont listen to them .......it probably wasent thier taste...or they went in expecting something else....and was suprised at what they got..... would i rather have kurts film...or this version? ? id rather have kurts film.....but as long as i undertsnad kurts story.....i can fully enjoy this version like it was his.....

Apparently the film got taken away from Kurt in some form or another, plus it was originally supposed to have an R-rating. However, I dunno what could improve it drasticallly. I'm a huge EQ fan, it just really smarts to be disappointed by this one.

I too am disappointed by this movie. As a lover of EQ, my pain was doubled by the fact that I needed to write a UV review for my school paper after I saw it on Friday. It really was painful for me to do.
I do, however, still have faith in Kurt as a filmmaker. I will gladly pay admission to his next effort and support him as much as a lowly fan can.

The story is not good, and the acting just didn't worked well on the 2nd half of the movie. Milla having emotion to Six was kind of not working. The story wasn't interesting enough for me, not even close to EQ. The action scenes were good, but wasn't really as mind blowing as EQ, and some of the action scenes like the final battle was poorly done and didn't make much sense in my opinion. The script is just not good in my opinion. This is the most disappointing movie ever, I have expected this to be so much more than EQ. Instead it went backwards.

my biggest problem with the film were the obvious edits to the fight scenes as it was plainly obvious that these scenes were shot for an R-rated film.
Also I was unsure what the hell the story was really about as I knew beforehand from the net that the hemophages were vampires. But them there`s talk about goverment super soldiers and a virus. I really think the studio messed with the whole storyline and I`m definately going to pick up the novel for the real story.

hemophages had vampire like traight...that the government thought would be usefull in deveoping super-soilders.....
......it also made the virus...much much much more conatagous.....
6 isnt a weapon to kill hemo's....he WAS a weapon to kill humans....
.....daxus could control the cure ... .....or better yet....the medication... thus controlling the people.......
and the virus is the hemophage deasease.......which the government thought would make for good super-soldiers.....
im watchin the movie again tuesday......
.....and theres one thing that i cant wrap my mind around.....sometimes the answer pops in my head...and the next second its gone.....
why did daxus think the society would sprint towards chaos like an olympic event when the war was done....
.....or is that just a bullshit excuse to get into drug-dealing????sundance did say that this was a technuquie wimmer used in EQ....
.....the one that comes to mind most is diggs charecter saying he needed an adjustment......
please feedback???.....
