"What do you guys think Kurt would prefer, seeing the film crash and burn as it seems to be doing or it be loved by his fans?"
i think kurt would rather see people enjoying TRACES OF HIS FILM rather than people HATING THE END RESULT......
...but i cant speak for somebody else.....

I love the traces-- but it makes me sad because they are just traces, not the film it should have been. It makes me think of the burning of the Mona Lisa in EQ; it's now a pile of ashes, but technically it's still the Mona Lisa. All the pieces are there but it's not what it was. Should the pile of Mona Lisa ashes be as revered as the undamaged painting, or should we hope another copy (ie, director's cut) surfaces? If UV had been a critical and box office success it would have proved that the studio was right to take KW's vision and chop it to bits. Unfortunately, it's Kurt who's taking the fall for the Screen Gems's idiocy. Poor Kurt...

i think of it as someone ripping the mono lisa and throwing away parts of it.....
....you still get to see some of it...but you dont get to see the whole "picture"
...and the only thing we can really hope for is that those pieces are found and restored(directors cut)
and yea...it SHOULD be pretty obvious to the studio that it wasent a good idea....OR they can possibly be thinking that they made more money than they would have....had they left it in wimmers hands.....

I'm sure the studio was motivated solely by market studies-- they wanted a PG-13 version of Matrix/Resident Evil/Underworld and chopped up the film as much as they had to to get it. However, I didn't see a single teenager in the audience when I saw UV Monday evening. Summer is traditionally the time to appeal to the teeny-bopper audience, not late winter/early spring. They released the film too early to cash in on that market. They should have just left it alone to succeed or fail on it's own merits. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for a director's cut.

"Im wondering if there is even ganna be a real Directers cut. I mean it seems like he is trying to distance him self from this. Or like ignore the whole movie. He said nothing was his, so do you think he would go back and re-do the whole movie. Because it sounds like that is what is going to have to do. "
He is not distancing from the film at all. Actually, what it seems that he is doing is that he is making sure not to piss of the studios (possibly any more if he has) so that there won't be any more trouble on his career. In other words, he lost this battle, but he wants to makre sure he can keep on with the war.
The last thing Kurt Wimmer would want, or in fact any up and coming director, is to become another Tony Kaye.

totally agree because if Wimmer starts badmouthing the studio the only one that will lose in a fight is him. He obviously wants to continue making films and if starts speaking out other studios will basically blacklist him as a troublemaker.

I imagine that's what'll happen. I'm sure we'd all rather Kurt cut his losses on UV, kept the studio's freindly and make more movies instead of throwing a tantrum over what is probably a lost cause and sacrificing what could be a kick-ass career.
Everyone who MATTERS (i.e his fans and probably industy-insiders) know the score, and know what screengems did. As long as UV makes money (and it probably will), then Kurt is hopefully good to go for the next project.

i enjoyed the movie...everyone else seems to hate it....
.....i just hope his name dosent become synonomis with uwe boll and pual W.S anderson because of it.....
....but its a damn shame if he just forgets about UV....because its the movie ive been waiting for....
....and i dont mean anticipating....its exactly MY KIND OF ACTION MOVIE TO THE T...so its a shame we only see traces of it.....

My theory on what happened:
The film went over budget in post production and Screen Gems got pissed with Kurt because of it. So they took the film away from him so that they, based on thier own guesses, can make as much money back as they can from their investment. They did this by making cuts based on test screenings and to get a PG-13 rating to allow the best possibile turnout for the film.
Unfortunately Kurt is the one suffering for it by taking all the heat while nothing happens to Screen Gems.

About time to break the silence, anyway. How much time since we heard from Kurt's mouth, at all?
I'm getting a bit uncomfortable.
And from Sony... it shouldn't be that much of a decision, at least let people know if they'll do a R rated dvd or not...

For some reason Kurt is not talking. At least I haven't heard anything.
Perhaps, we may not hear anything until after the removal of the movie from the box office and the DVD begins production.

There was actually a quote posted here that was taken from another forum (maybe Aint It Cool News) where Kurt told someone that what is being released is not his movie in any way, shape, or form and that he was upset.
Other than that, nothing.

someone from another forum is trying to get a informal interview from Wimmer.... Don't know what its worth...but at least there is talk.
Regardless of wimmer's responses...I'll still see his next movie when it happens.

I'm aware of a site that will be conducting an interview with Wimmer pretty soon (though they told me it would be right after UV came out and I've heard nothing). Anyway I'll let you guys know the moment things follow through.
