Well I just saw the movie for a 2nd and third time this weekend. Once after reading more than half of the book. The last time, after reading the entire novel. And I gotta say...
I loved the movie about 3 times as much after attaining the entire backstory subplots and taglines. The novel made such a difference in my overall view of UV, its story and characters.
The problem that still remains in my mind is the appearance of incomplete CGI, soft focus effect filtering, and lack of smooth transitions from one scene to another (AKA Bad editing on the part of screen gems).
It may not have been worth starting a new post, but I felt that I had to so that everyone that visits this site can realize that they may have enjoyed it ALOT more if only Screen Gems left well enough alone, and told the complete story.
Oh..BTW..The dialogue fits perfectly in the movie. Some may feel its cheesy, but when you read the book....it just works...very well.

Yeah its tough.
Ya know, you have such high expectations (sometimes) after you see what an accomplishment EQ was. Then UV arrives and the studio messes with it all.
IMO, Wimmer should go indie.

I am sure everyone is at least a lil disappointed... but overall I enjoyed it. It was honestly a fun overall flick which I'll buy once to DVD.

I really liked the book as it filled in all the story holes left by the movie. I`m definately going to see the film as I`m sure I`ll enjoy it that much more now.
I thought it was a lot of fun the first time I saw it but I did have the feeling that something was wrong with the film. So when I starting checking things out on the net that`s when I discovered all the problems that had happened.
Does anyone know when Wimmer was taken off the film??

apparently from what many are talking about, Wimmer was removed from the set nearly a year or about 8 months before the release of the movie. Take that for what its worth though... Its just something I heard about 1 week ago on another board.

Removed from the set? You mean he didn't even get to finish filming?

Even if it was a year ago it was not from the "set." They finished shooting in June of 2004 so Wimmer did get to complete shooting.

I have to read the book and hold out for the directors cut to be able to agree or disagree

DUh.. ... again sorry for the misunderstanding as far as I know by what I`ve read Wimmer did have a cut that he was happy with. So obviously that means he was involved with the film after shooting had stopped. So what I`m thinking is the studio must not have been happy with that cut of the film or they saw it and deemed it a total failure and just took over the project. It just seems ridiculous to let the director get that far with the film just to take it away and screw it up. I`m guessing Wimmer must have had problems with his producers in terms of the editing.
