So I didn't want to start whole threads for each movie and I know a lot of people watch movies on the board Feel free to chime in with any random movies new or old that you've seen. Recently, I've seen: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - actually turned out to be pretty funny. I was expecting the worst lol. But it's worth a see - there are some def laugh out loud moments. Rush Hour 3 - not bad - could have been a lot better but it could have been a lot worse - def the first one was the best. An Unfinished Life - Not a bad movie at all - but then most Robert Redford movies are pretty decent imo. Waitress - I saw this in the theater but watched it again the other day - such a good movie imo. Makes me feel good to watch it. Blade Runner - Final Cut - was pretty good I liked the original cut but the final cut did have some nice additional footage and the behind the scenes was interesting. I hadn't seen Blade Runner in quite a while but we watched it for the holidays lol - right up there with Die Hard Unaccompanied Minors - hmmmmmm.... it was ok but def not that great. The Blues Brothers - always good ;D

For Christmas we got...
The Court Jester - Still holds up over time with classic comedy & physical humor.
The Blue Bird - One of the few Shirley Temple films that I like. They finally released it to DVD...after years...
Melody Time - Parts are really very, very slow and dated but worth seeing just for Bumble Boogie, Little Toot & Pacos Bill. The current cut though of the Pacos Bill segment ticks me off since they have taken the PC ax to his smoking and all but deleted the "tornado" scene. It makes me want to take some higher ups at Disney and cover their bodies with Nicotine patches (Thank You for Smoking style.)
The Great Race - Always Classic fun.

Hard Boiled - excellent action, and a litte heart help a typical police story. Far better than anything Woo produced in America.
A Better Tomorrow - Not as strong on the action as Hard Boiled but a good poignent plot gives it an edge.

Hard Boiled - someone else recommended that - I need to watch that - they said it was the 5th best action movie of all time or something?
There's also this Harrison Ford movie that's set in Colorado that I'm supposed to watch - sound familiar to anyone? I can't remember the name for the life of me but in one day, four entirely different people recommended it lol - guess I should have written it down.

Police Story - Wonderful action and zany slapstick makes it a great live action cartoon. Ridiculous English dubs (that sound like Trey Parker's lending his voice) and terrible gunshot sound effects help the hilarity.

The General (Buster Keaton) - Watched this for my Civil War class. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch the whole thing because the DVD player was crap. Great slapstick and comic timing. Good cinematography and the acting is great.

Watched The Darjeeling Limited - I hated it. It's like every other movie that Jason Swartzman is in. Some are good and some just plain suck!
Saw The Other Boleyn Girl - which wasn't bad, wasn't spectacular either but it was entertaining. I could have done with more Bana though - he was good in the movie and more Natalie Portman - she was so twisted in the movie..... I'll have to look up how much of that was true......

I saw The Other Bloeyn Girl recently, which turned out to be a lot more depressing than I thought it would be. I liked the performances of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, although Natalie's accent felt a little forced and overdone at times. Eric Bana didn't really have to do much except look good - the battle is between the sisters. so all in all, it was alright.

^^ I saw that movie as well - I also thought it was a bit more down than I assumed it would be. I wanted more Bana and Portman and less Scarlett though - just thought they had more in-depth characters and were better actors/actresses.
Just watched The Nines - interesting strange movie - not what you'd expect at all.
Gone Baby Gone - had to be one of the better non-scifi movie's I've seen in a while. Raised a lot of personal questions and the story kept going..... really recommend it.

I saw The Mist the other day & felt horribly embarrassed for Frank Darabont. I love a good horror film but it was incredibly disappointing & a lot of the performances were cringeworthy - especially Thomas Janes (his efforts at the ending were particularly woeful). And Im not talking about the action/horror scenes - they were OK compared to the majority of scenes set within the store. Very stilted & unconvincing dialogue from just about everybody. I honestly had a more enjoyable time picking where Id seen various actors in movies & TV than the movie itself - like apart from the Darabont regulars like William Sadler & Jeff DeMunn there was the girl who played Kyra from Chronicles of Riddick & her wannabe military boyfriend was the guy who tried to take credit for the Ice Truck Killers murders in Dexter (TV). After watching this I definately think Darabonts niche definately lies in period piece prison movies, his only 2 bonafide hits. Just watched The Nines - interesting strange movie - not what you'd expect at all. Gone Baby Gone - had to be one of the better non-scifi movie's I've seen in a while. Raised a lot of personal questions and the story kept going..... really recommend it. Watched both these movies recently & enjoyed them both - Nines was so unusual, I love watching something so different to the norm when its done well. And Ryan Renolds was excellent. GBG was also an excellent film, I enjoyed Casey Affleck way more in this than Assassination of Jesse James (which was just a bit to slow & meandering for my tastes). And had a powerful & memorable ending. 2 thumbs up from me there!

I haven't seen the Jesse James movie yet but it's on my list of top movies I want to see - I did hear some good things about it - but I don't know now lol... Mr. A we have similar tastes in movies but I'll still give it a go.
Just got Atonement in..... I hope it's not boring lol. I'm not much of a 'love of my life' movie person but it sparked some interest for me so I thought I'd give it a looksie.
Haven't seen The Mist yet - but I heard about the movie from a few other people. I thought it looked too much like The Fog and decided I'd wait for it to come onto the movie channels.

Mr. A we have similar tastes in movies but I'll still give it a go. By all means do, I was also keen to see it at the time but it didn't do all that much for me. But please put that out of your mind when you watch it, make your own decision based on your own experience of it - which I know you do anyway

Ok - I watched Atonement - which was just a sad, long, dull movie about lost love - Silk - which was just a sad, long, dull movie about lost love Arrghhhh - ok, maybe SOME people like those kinda movies but I'm not a super fan of them to be honest. Sure, I like love stories as much as the next girl but why do people like to watch movies about love that is lost? I mean the whole point of movies is to escape into another world - why would you want to go to that world? I guess if you have the love of your life already you'd probably just appreciate that person more I guess...... I suppose lol...... But please put that out of your mind when you watch it, make your own decision based on your own experience of it - which I know you do anyway You know that's a fact

Gone baby gone: I can't believe that Ben affleck Directed this film It felt like I was watching a clint eastwood film. Great film definetly over looked by the oscars.
Michael Clayton: I'm almost done but so far it's good.
Legend of the black scorpian: Think of it as hamlet with a chinese take to it. The ending might piss some people off but I aactually liked it leaves you thinking.
Battlestar Galactica Season 3: (I know it's a tv show and not a movie but since I've seen it recently I felt like giving it a review.)
It has proven to be the best Sci-fi dramas ever made and I am going to have to say that it is actually better than Lost. I have never seen a sci-fi show that has been able to put drama with sci-fi until I saw BSG.

^^You liked Michael Clayton? I didn't like it very much - good acting segments but not a solid all the way through - and what was with the horses?
I watched The Invasion this weekend and was just entirely bored. I guess I just prefer the original Body Snatchers - even though The Invasion wasn't really the same......

I finished seeing it. Yeah it was actually good not great but good I liked the performances. The horses can't really explain why. But the real good one was Gone baby gone. Amy Ryan deserved the oscar for best suporting actress not Tilda Switon. Gone Baby Gone was hands done the most overlooked film in the oscars.

^^ I agree. Gone Baby Gone....it took me a bit to get it in the DVD player because I didn't have a real interest in seeing it - but the movie was really really good. It had twists, turns, the acting was just awesome. And yeah - can't believe Ben Affleck directed it either lol.
I agree that it was totally overlooked at Oscar time. Sure Juno was a cute movie but that actress, if you've heard her in interviews or seen her in other things she acts the same, that's how she dresses and acts in real life - so it wasn't a huge stretch for her in that role.

If that's true then yeah that is not a huge stretch after all. It's not hard to like yourself in a movie look at that fat girl from the movie dreamgirls she won it by acting pretty much as herself (and she did not deserve that award by the way her acting sucked.) but if noticed she has not been offered another film since. She is like marisa tome you wonder why the hell she win in the first place. There is another film I saw that was overlooked The Painted Veil. I don't know if you or anyone else here have seen it but it brings back the old fashion romantic drama that none of us here were even alive when they were making them. Well anyways see it I recommend it.

There is a movie that I bought yesterday and Slater was in it and I have to tell you that this was by far the best and most powerful performance he has ever given. Check it out people.

Here is a Description of the film for those who are thinking of watching it.
Christian Slater delivers what critics are calling the performance of his career a Bob Maconel, a bullied office drone with hate in his heart, voices in his head, and a loaded gun in his desk drawer. When a bizarre twist turns him into an instant hero, Bob begins a tender relationship with a disabled co-worker (an equally powerful performance by elishia Cuthbert) who asks Bob for the ultimate favor. Can two damaged souls ever learn to live again or is the brink of madness still just a shot away?

Just watched Next on StarzHD. It's got Nicholas Cage, Jullianne Moore and Jessica Biel in it and it was directed by Lee Tamahori. Cage plays a man who's clairvoyant enough to see 2 minutes into his own future. Moore is the FBI agent tracking him down to enlist his help finding a rogue nuke. I kinda liked this movie, it's got plot holes galore and I'm not a big Cage fan but the premise is clever and they do some cool stuff with it. Check it out if you get a chance.

I'm a not-so-closet Cage fan (Con Air and The Rock are two of my faves) He's been in in some really bad films but is always watchable. In fact I saw Ghost Rider again the other night. I rather enjoyed Next (saw it about 3 times when it came on Sky). It is a very clever idea, although as you say, you could drive a truck through the plot holes. I thought the 'gift' would be useful for me when I went shopping...I could try on lots of 'possible future' clothes whilst I was just queueing to use the changing rooms! ;D

That's awsome Mira hope you enjoy it alot as much as i did. And Libby...Con Air...are you serious. That movie sucked major ass but I give it up for the Rock awsome movie. i think Cage's last great performance was Adaptation. WTC was a good but not a great performance from him. after that it's been one fluff film after another.

Glad I'm not the only one who liked it, I knew I shouldn't but I just couldn't help it.. On another note I saw Hitman tonight. Eh, not as bad as the criticss made it out to be but not real good either. There were a couple clever sequences but that was about it. Got Cloverfield up next.
