Hello all,
I just saw EQ this week, and jumped online to see what online resources are available for gun kata. I am so glad I found this site, and have been reading through most (but not yet all!) of the posts regarding creating a gun inspired martial art.
Most of the influences from the movie, and here from the boards come from Eastern MA, which is cool. I caution people not to forget Western European martial arts, however!
I am a practitioner of Medieval German Longsword, and contrary to what most movies would have you believe, the european martial arts were quite sophisticated and comprehensive. Not at all the Conan the Barbarian hack and slash that most envision.
I see aspects of German longsword that could be applicable to rifle techniques within the gun-MA. For instance, the German concept of *winding* at the sword, is the method of keeping the point of your sword in line with the opponent even while being displaced.
This is analgous to someone holding a gun and trying to keep it aimed at his opponent while being pushed. Also, some of the half swording techniques could also apply to rifles in a close quarters combat situation.
Any other western martial arts practitioners out there? I would be happy to discuss more if people are interested.
Thanks,
Michael
