After seeing some of the story board art for EQ I wonder if some of the "moves" are going to be put in Ultraviolet?
I'm actually glad that some of the things weren't put in EQ like using the guns like tonfa sticks and blocking moves, as it would have cluttered up the action, and EQ was more to do with "less is more", which I actually prefer, but surely Ultraviolet is going to be totally over the top but cool with it? And these ideas were totally new to me, it never occured to me that you could actually do that with a gun! Genius!
I like the idea of a bladed magazine as well, with a longer blade you could have a sword AND gun fight. Blimey.
Any ideas?

Well - I think the Ultraviolet style will be much more "showy" than the EQ style. In EQ it's all about efficiency and training your ass off till you act like a robot in combat, whereas I think Ultraviolet will be a totally different thing - more conventional action-movie-like moves, and a lot less disciplined action. My personal theory is a bit like your 'Ultra kata' - I think it'll be a mess frankly, one big flurry of blocking with guns / swords in the guns / dodging bullets / kicking etc. Not necesarily saying that's going to be a bad thing, but I think Mr. Wimmer needs to really keep his act together to pull this off in a manner that will fit with our taste in here (remember, you are posting in the gun kata forum ). One interesting thought I came up with is: If you have a bladed magazine, and hold the gun as it's held in the story board artwork (holding the handle so the barrel runs along with the outside of your wrist), the knife would actually be pointing upwards, hence being like a sword!? So basically it's a 2-in-1 solution, at least you'd be able to use it as a conventional knife - true, it'd have a bigger handle and be less maneuverable, but in return you get the possibility of wrist blocking, which kicks the ass of blocking blade against weapon any day. That could be very interesting

wait til rymel sees this thread...
-hes really skeptical about the wushu style being incorporated into the gun-kata ideal. should be interesting...
-as for me, im not too concerned. considering i am but a humble consumer, i will take anything i can get from kurt that involves anything sounding even remotely like the words gun-kata. even if its "stun-prada" ill be there...

naah it's probably going to be good if he puts anywhere the same effort into making it as he did with Equilibrium. I don't usually like Milla Jovovich though (or however the hell you're supposed to spell that), but I guess it remains to be seen how well she fits into the world of Kurt Wimmer!

yea...i'm not too happy about a wushu-ized gun kata...can we say useless?
not saying it wouldn't look cool, it just totally defeats the purpose of the previous movie pushing so hard to make it look like a viable, deadly martial art...it just turns it into another hong kong cinema. which should make for some good moviegoing, but if i heard gun kata v2 i EXPECT gun kata v2, not gunshu (sorry, i had to). i don't really agree about the robot comment though. like any martial art you do do things automativally to a certain extent a la robotics, but it's also about improvisation. hard boiled comes to mind when i think of ultraviolet gun kata...
in regards to ultra kata...i wish i saw whatever storyboard you guys saw...cuz i never saw any such board, and i'd sure like to. given that i'm particularly interested in melee gun combat, those concepts intrigue me greatly, and i was thinking about those very same techniques. except maybe the dodging bullets part...
...ehh...i don't like the blade idea. not only does it render the gun useless until you turn it around (yea right, firing it upside down), it becomes bottom-heavy, reducing total slicing power. i think the blade idea came from the standard knife-fighter's grip, icepick and along the forearm. this makes for more efficiency in defense, personal safety in heated combat with such a setup, and increased blocking power. but that's just me. and milla jovovich is a great choice, she fits the action role very well, imho. loved her in fifth element.
stun prada! mall trollers the world over would have your head for that trustkill ;D lovin the new picture btw.

This discussion I believe is a perfect example of why information about a movie before its release is not a good idea. Imagine a debate about the use of guns in a kata form before Wimmer has actually had the opportunity to present his vision to us on film, or even his ideas on reloading or the "weeble, wobble" clips/mags.
What we imagine as possible or not now limits our judgment of a film before the reality of it has even been realized. I am half tempted to place on the site a complete media black out of UV because of my own desire to avoid spoilers, leaks, & pre-judgment.
I'm finding it difficult to be a source of information for it & yet protect myself from over saturation & spoilers. The last thing I want is the experience of a Wimmer film ruined for me.

not really, jen...i would've thought it a great idea, something i'd thought of before myself. just not on his level i guess you're right though, we shouldn't prejudge, but based on previous wushu viewings and other various hk cinema movies i just can't help but be skeptical about a wushu-infused gun kata. but that's just me. and i'm still not saying if it'll be a good movie or not.

For some reason I can't post the pic of the storyboard I was referring to so here's the link: www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/MarkBristol.htmIt's storyboard 3. Since Ultraviolet will be less maths based and more OTT there will probably be a lot of this. Maybe.
