My favorite fight scene was the display of gun kata when Preston got caught with the dog in the trunk. And the shotgun swing was amazing. When he did the backflip off the motorcycle I stood up in the theater and yelled, "Hell yeah!" with everyone else. -Preston

Easy killer. Trustkill can be cool. Just don't piss him off. That's right about the time he'll get violent. Besides, he was making a joke then. Have you no sense of humour?

That is a tough question but i really liked the introduction of Prestons abilitys with Gun Kata. Even thoguh it wasnt the best scene since it was the cheapest. Aside from that i really liked the puppy scene and Brandt ownage (that was quite comical).

Aside from that i really liked the puppy scene and Brandt ownage (that was quite comical). One of our group yelled at the beginning of the Brandt fight "prepare for the fight scene!" (From Mel Brook's "Robin Hood: Men in Tights") Then*swish* and we go "Maybe not." I have a hard time picking a favorite as well. I do love how they were all incremental in badassness...you couldn't predict how they were going to go. Our group would yell and whoop through them all when we first saw it. I do remember a ton of yelling during the dog/Nethers scene. As far of the story, I do like the scene where the sweepers come in to arrest his wife, and as soon as they burst in Preston without missing a beat manages to lay the beatdown on them.

The Nether. Right from the whole Down on your knees! bit to the look on his face after he's slaughtered them all. You can SEE the subtle change in his face when his initial 'panic' subsides into cold, killer, no-nonsense technique before he begins the bottom-whooping.

What can one say, except: DOWN ON YOUR KNEES! DOWN ON YOUR KNEES! COMPLY! COMPLY! SHOOT HIM! SHOOT HIM! SHOOT HIM! *BAF* *gasp* *...fuck...* BAMBAM! My jaw had become a subterranian creature at that point... Then comes the Hall of Mirrors. I felt the music was a bit to electricy in that scene, but it still rocks... Then the gun-butting scene. It is rather unfinished until he smashes the first helmet in... after that it is just awesome! The darkroom... well... it is very good, though I feel that they should have relied less on blending two images together and rather on really showing some wideshots. But who am I to complain! The action in Equilibrium goes unmatched, and will for a long time.

My favorite fight scene would have to be the one when preston goes into the nether and fight all those soldiers over a puppy...

My son votes for slaughter in the hall. Especially when he flips the machine gun over...that's my husband's favorite too.
For me, it's the whole final series of sequences, starting with "cooly, calmly, entirely without incident"....what really rocks my boat is when the assistant looks down at the strip that's been reflecting Preston's emotions...it goes dead straight and you know he is in total control...the guy goes "shit." and you know he's going to kick ass. Then he says' No, not without incident and I think that's my favorite moment! It's so hard to decide which exact scene is most awesome...I couldn't believe it the first time I saw EQ, especially since you never hear much about this film. It's just too cerebral for the mainstream, but then so is Mr. Bale, isn't he?
That would all change if he does Bond, and I'm not so sure I'd want him to do it...but that's another section, another thread....
EQ rocks!

I'd go for the Preston-vs-Brandt-training scene. It has the best katana moves, and I like Preston's swordstyle.

agreed, those of you who think it was cheesy need a new face, brain, and eye balls It is, I think, 'cheesy', but I enjoyed it the first time I saw it -- especially because a friend of mine had managed to get me to expect a terrible film. Instead, it surpassed everything I saw that year and I still watch it about every two months (twice this week, as I have discovered that my girlfriend loves it). My two favourite battle scenes have to be the defence of the puppy in the Nether and the katana battle with DuPont's guards. The first time I saw the film, the former battle made me giggle like a giddy schoolgirl. I did not excpect that. I mean, I had a pretty good idea that he was going to fight his way out, but... wow. That is as far as what I enjoyed most. As for what impressed me... the hallway slaughter at the very end: the expert placing of the ammunition he knew that he would need the use of a fallen foe's weapon when those were low. Superb, quick-thinking, over all. Those are scenes. My favourite battle moment? Brandt's face sliding off, and Dupont's disgusted expression in response to it. Crude humour, perhaps, but somehow it fit so well. 'Mind the uniform, Cleric. I plan to be wearing it for a long time.' Flick. Snap. Crack. Slide. Thud. Welcome to John Preston.

I think one problem is the whole use of the term "cheesy." According to Dictionary.com cheesy means "Of poor quality; shoddy" though most people use it to describe something "corny." Both are different & actually very subjective so there really is no objective standard to the word besides personal opinion. BTW, that "hand-trapping" sequence about had me out of my seat the first time I saw it in the theater. Finally a director that didn't drag a fight into boredom!! Oh & welcome to the resistance!! Excellent comments!!

True. Well said. That is partly why I placed it in quotes, however. I dislike the term.
Thank you for the welcome, of course.

Hmm...All of the gunfights in that movie are awesome but I would have to say...
1 - The first gunfight in the darkened room. First time I saw it my jaw was on the floor....*lol* It's still as cool even after several watchings...
2 - The fight over the puppy. That shows you just how superior the Cleric are to any other military personnel. He kills all of those sweepers in about two seconds flat...I love the back flip and, after he shoots the two sweepers, when it zooms back and has the really cool lighting effect. That is just awesome. ^_^ That huge fight for the dog...*lol*
3 - The final fight with Dupont was totally awesome as well. The fact that they were so evenly matched that they could simply push the other's hand aside was amazing. But, Preston was better...<G>
Like I said before, all of the fight scenes are awesome but those are my favorites. The katana fight with Brandt is very cool as well...
"Always practicing, Cleric. I guess that's why you're the best." "Or maybe I'm just better."

It had to be the last fight with Dupont, no other movie in history shall ever be able to top the sheer excitement I felt when I first saw that. I pride myself as very versed in action movies and their best scenes, and this is right up there with the "Versus" end sword fight. And, man, do I like the last fight in "Versus", so that's saying alot. Gun choreography like nothing in my dreams. I mean............it just doesn't get better than that!
