I'd have to say it's the slaughter of the sweeepers when they stop him with the puppy. the fact that he actually racked those shotguns is just astounding and the final movement of the kata was icing.

The whole final sequence is the best.. I stood up and cheered twice.. once when he says 'I'm coming' and shoots the glass and again right after the swordfight. The lobby scene is amazing and I love how he enters the hallway. It's better than the matrix lobby scene by leaps and bounds.
My one gripe with the action is the dark room sequence. That sequence could have been amazing but it just wasn't. With a bigger budget wimmer would have made that scene just as good as the lobby scene.

You're joking right?! Anyway... definitely the first (lights out) and especially last sequence with Dupont. Intense! ;D

I have to say the Dark Room even though I actually think some of the others were more exhilarating. I pick it because it sets you up for something but you're not sure exactly what. The first time in the theater I was..."WOW!! What the hell was that??" It had me hooked to see more. Now in the hands of a lesser director the following full blown Gun-kata sequence (puppy/Motorcycle jump) could have been a let down. (As my husband likes to put it, "Foreplay without the orgasm.") Wimmer pulls it off perfectly and delivers even more than what was originally anticipated. IMHO, something extremely difficult to accomplish; the ability to satisfy and exceed expectation.

Tough question...
The one that made me gasp for air was the fight scene in the Nethers with the puppy in the trunk. The birds eye view of Preston kicking ass surrounded by the officers is simply one of the coolest shots ever.
The final showdown with his white suit in the hallways is another favorite of mine. More gun shots the better. (I've become a gun fanatic after EQ)

hey pyro, i kind of understand Guest-me's opinion of the first action sequence in the dark room. i guess for most people it looks pretty damn cool, but for some of us, including myself unfortunately, it looks just a tad bit cheesy. but the idea is totally badass. i say cheesy because of the way preston switches his arm positions while he was firing. it just looks a bit awkward i guess. but thats just my opinion. to each his own. does anyone else understand where im coming from? oh yea, ive rethought about my favorite action scene and now i just cant decide. here are the action scenes in order from the most favored to the least coolest (if thats possible) 1. Shootout (slaughter ;D) in the hallway/swordfight with Dupont's guards. (i cant decide which one is better!) 2. The puppy incident in the Nethers 3. The handgun parrying fight with Preston and Dupont 4. The pistol butting scene 5. Preston's dream where his wife gets taken away (im not really sure if it counts as a fight, but its damn cool how Preston flips that guard!) 6. Introduction

With a bigger budget wimmer would have made that scene just as good as the lobby scene. I would have to disagree. The dark room sequence was thrilling beyond belief for me. I don't think this kind of lighting has been done before in a movie, but of course, I could be wrong. The way they lit the room only with gunfire was to me very original and extremely effective. Thanks!

The whole "not without incident" bit, until he gets into the office is my fave fight. Finally, a hero character actually picks up the gun of a dead guy! They NEVER do that in movies! Hats off to Preston for not being an idiot! ;D

The dark room sequence was just cheesy.. It was cool to see the room only lit by the gunflashes but the way that the people got blown back by the bullets looked stupid... Another thing I didn't like was how Preston just stands in the middle.. there was no movement to it.. the coolest thing about gunkatta are the different poses Preston strikes while shooting.. just seeing him stand there was kinda boring.

The HOW COOL IS THAT? moment: Preston Vs DuPont. Hand-Trapping with guns has never been done on film before, as far as I know, and I still can't belive how cool and how fast it looks. And this is in a movie FULL of original action. The EAT THAT! moment: Preston, taking out the over-confident and smug Brandt in three lighting fast moves. The build up to it makes you think it's gonna be a big fight, but Preston is just too damn good for that. The comic timing of the guns falling out of Brandts slashed holsters is wonderful. The OUCH moment: Preston snapping that sweepers arm over his knee. Boy, did I flinch. Nice blood effect too. The HOLY COW! moment: The bike flip and subsquent Kata sequence in the middle of the sweeper team. The first real glimpse of Gun-Kata. It's so damn fast and intricate that it's almost unreal, seven armed men wiped out in seconds. I live in Britain, and people never clap at movies here. But people were clapping and whooping at the end of that bit. The big grin-because-you-just-know-what's-comming- even-if-you've-never-seen-the-film-before moment: "No." BEEEEEEEEEEEP "Not without Incident." ;D

The dark room sequence was just cheesy... See, for me the "Dark Room" was filmmaking at its best...the creation of suspense with a hook, line, and sinker lure. I took the bait and absolutely loved being snared.

And the fight with Dupont blew me away.. I especially love how the music kicks in and then hits a peak right before the first gunshot is fired.

Which one? Wow! There are so many! Without going into to much detail though, I think the best one was the final gun fight. Practically a hand to hand battle with guns! It was laid out so well and performed perfectly! I honestly was at the edge of my seat during the entire sequence and could not help but cheer when Preston won the fight. It was simply amazing!

I liked the one with the puppy the best; although, I loved the whole end lobby sequence, too. I love it when Preston racks those guns and shoots the sweepers in the face. The best part of that scene, though, is when they open the trunk of Preston's car. When he tilts his head and raises it to look at his victims, you know he's ready to kick some ass.

My favorite would definitely have to be when the guards catch him with the puppy. We all knew his instincts would kick in and he would make waste with all of them, but boy does he! He starts by spinning the two Remington M870 Tactical 12 Gauge pumps and smoking their original owners, then cocks them both by merely kicking them forward (which can be done in real life by the way). Then he ends the spectacular scene by doing the backflip over the BMW R1150RT police motorcycle and smoking the two guys upside-down in midair!!! Although the ending sequence was very unique as well, I still like this one a little more. (Except in the ending scene right before he enters DuPonts room when he dumps his Beretta M92FS's and flips the HK G36 backwards over his shoulders! Awesome!!!) I also like the hand-to-hand combat scenes in the Nether when he breaks the one guards arm in two places and kicking his knee in, not to mention the metal spikes extruding from the magazine bottoms of the Berettas.

The fight with the sweepers over the puppy was cool, as was, the beginning, dark room scene. The first time i saw EQ i was blown away by how he knew where everyone was in the dark like that. Though, eveytime Preston picked up a sword or gun, the next few scenes were almost guaranteed to be cool.

I also love Preston's sword fight scenes with Dupont's elite guards. It's hypnotizing and EQ itself will really blew you away.

While the actual gunfight in the dark room was nothing special (it looked a bit cartoonish), I loved the way he entered the room. That was the first time I'd seen anything like that. The lights go out, the gunfire stops, Preston is invisible...but you know he's there somewhere, waiting, listening...
If they hadn't have shown it in the theatrical trailer it would have been doubly impressive.

I thought the way the fight scenes developed thought the film was great. In the dark its a bit of a teaser of whats to come and then gradually it gets better and better untill at the end when Preston shows exacly what gun kata is all about. Fantastic.

Personally, I think that Equilibrium has got about the best action pacing/timing that I have ever seen in a film. It is not over done to the point of boredom but is used to add a beat to the story here & there. Too many action films today are lacking substance & relying on the wow factor (cgi/wire-fu) over truly teasing us & capturing our imaginations not only with the action but with the stories & characters as well.

I for myself enjoyed the beginning of the movie the most when first watching it.
"There are the filthy rebels. And there's the policy, that means people are going to die. Oh wait, there's Christian. That means a lot of people are going to die!"
But now, after just finished watching it the 17th time, I think the final fight and the scene when he finishes off the sweepers with the spikes of his guns are my favourite ones.
