OK, I know, at the bottom of this very page there is a long, long thread about it, and I've read only 4 pages of it or so, and I came to the conclusion that there's a LOT of posts there that have nothing to do with gun-kata.. so, I hope you guys don't mind if I start a new thread.
(also to keep the discussion active!)
Ok, a couple of things. If you want to practice gun kata, you need something that looks like a gun, right? (preferably two of course). But at the same time, you A.) don't want to spend a fortune, and B.) don't want to hurt anyone..
Now the answer has more or less been mentioned before, airsoft guns. Though the guns that have been mentioned are quite expensive GBB type guns (gas blow back), those guns are also quite powerfull at short ranges, and can HURT. BAD!
Now, the other alternative is to get a CHEAP airsoft gun, that isn't dangerous at all, and then modify it to full auto to be more "Cleric-like".. have a looky at my old, old site here to see how it's done:
www.geocities.com/sabeltandcavia/EBB_Modding.html
Really people, I'm NOT just trying to draw more people to my site.. heck, the thing hasn't been updated since I first put it up TWO YEARS AGO.
Now these cheap airsoft guns are available in a lot of air soft and sporting stores all over the world.. Tokyo Marui (producer of my Centimeter Master) also has a beretta model that could easily be transformed in a Cleric gun look-alike!
Aren't they dangerous? Nope.. stock they can't even shoot through a sheet of paper 4ft away! Really, they are the weakest BB guns EVER I believe..! That also means they can't cost you your eye..
So then, next question.. how the heck do you get a standard for everyone? This, I don't know either really. Lots of people are (or are willing to) work on Gun Kata, but how do you explain stances and moves to someone thousands of miles away? I really have no idea on how to work that one out.. any suggestions on that?
Finally (for now at least, lol) about the name.. it's been brought up in the other thread as well: a Kata is just a fixed set of motions to perfect a technique against an imaginary foe. The actual name of the martial art would be different then.. any suggestions? Gun Fu by itself is cool, but it's been used before.. What is the Japanese word for gun? I used to know but I forgot.. keppo I believe? Anyways, that would give Keppo-Do (litt. Way of the Gun) or Keppo-Jutsu (The fighting form of Keppo-Do).. or maybe a Chinese angle? I don't know much about Chinese martial arts, so I can't give any name suggestions there.. so anyways, what do you guys think?
