You're right, it's a little similar, but you have to realize that the hand trapping in Equilibrium was the result of a huge constraint in money and time. Forgive the language, but Dimension had a vise firmly clenched on Kurt Wimmer's balls throughout the entire production. He wanted to do something really elaboriate, but he just couldn't. No matter, I thought that scene was still cool, coming from a martial arts backround. Oh yeah, Trigun kicks ass too ;D

I say. The last figth is nothing like a carton movie. It dosent only blowe away the matrix, but it makes a howl new generation of last figths in movies. I am deeply impressed by the uniqe movie and the figthing scenes.

I totally agree with what darkman just said, I have seen the film, um, probably around 500 times and that gun fight totally rocks. Even better than that the whole movie dose not tire even after 500 times of watching it. I have probably watched all 3 matrix films around 70 times and I just cant watch them any more, infcat I get anoyed when I watch them. no action film has matched that ever in history. I think that anyway.

Hey you know what this DuPond-Preston fight scene reminds me of? The movie Romeo+Juliet (the version with Leo diCaprio). There they have guns that they call 'swords' (of course because of the fact that in original text those ARE swords ) and there is a scene when Mercucio and some fella (can't remeber who) are mock-fighting or let's say practising a sword fight. But since in this version, swords are guns... well they are 'crossing guns' (like in crossing swords ). They do not fire the guns but the moves they do, dodging and moving around yuor opponent trying to point your gun at him, well it kinda reminds me of that scene from EQ >the whole movie dose not tire even after 500 times of >watching it. I have probably watched all 3 matrix films >around 70 times and I just cant watch them any more That's because the Matrix movies, being as great as they are, have some boring scenes in them. And Equilibrium does not. It's fascinating and very moving every time you watch it! There are scenes in the Matrix that I can watch over and over again but those are only selected scenes. EQ draws me in every time I see it.

So which one would you say was the best. the matrix or Equilibrium?

I'd say that's a question that you should leave well alone We've seen threads like that degenerate into brawls, so I for one, am not going to even touch that one with a ten foot pole marked with the logo EAT THIS BABY.

I was only saking him. wasnt going to want any other opinion. to responce to Jamess I realy think not. I think that there are a lot of boring bits in the matrix (espeshally the last two, the worst) but there are also bits like that in eq. I dont think that a film is a film if it dosant have them. they just seam pointless and to lead knowhere in the matrix. I must say, why are we compairing eq to the matrix? The two film have nothing in common? who agrees with me?

I must say, why are we compairing eq to the matrix? The two film have nothing in common? who agrees with me? Being a big fan of both Equilibrium & the first Matrix there are some superficial elements that they have in common. Both... - Draw, borrow, &/or steal from a fast range of sources for inspiration. - Have deep religious & historical references & symbolism. - Have stylized action sequences. - Have a "godlike" main character. (which actually refers back to those religious references.) - are parables and/or fables which draw heavily on mythological techniques (see writings of Joseph Campbell) - are futuristic sci/fi's Those are the main similarities. Mostly in their structure but not in their execution. This same structure can also be applied to stories such as Star Wars & Dune. Even Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, The Crow, & Superman (ie - super heros) follow many of these elements. All are made to create modern mythology.

so, what you have just proved is that these symalaritys can be found in a lot of other movies. So........why dose people only chose matrix and equilibrium?

Pluss the main charicter has no godlike qualitys htat I could see. ...Well...Kurt Wimmer calls Preston "the god of death" on the commentary... I assume that you are thinking in terms of a Judo/Christian god and not mythological. The Greeks and Romans had many types of gods that Preston could personify quite well.

so, what you have just proved is that these symalaritys can be found in a lot of other movies. So........why dose people only chose matrix and equilibrium? Because I personally believe that many people actually do not think very deeply at all and only see things on the surface. Those other references I stated are older while Equilibrium & Matrix are the most recent two that have incorporated this storytelling structure. People tend to forget their own history & background.

The last gun fight has to be one of the best things Ive seen in a film in ages, all that blockin and stuff, mustve taken a few takes to get it right, pretty damned excellent though.

what i'd like to know is, if that's the "cheap, non-elaborate, we-ran-out-of-time" version, what were they originally planning?

I have a friend who is what's called a "fight director" which basically involves choregraphing the kind of fights we see in these films. Now he's pretty experienced (you'll have seen his work, I'm sure) and as soon as he saw EQ he wrote to me and demanded I see it, if only for the last fight, which he called "the best piece of fight choreo I've seen in years". High praise from this guy, believe me....
Personally, I can't compare EQ to The Matrix. EQ's more Orwellian like 1984 and even, dare I say Animal Farm! Farenheit 451 is another distopian future that springs to mind, whereas The Matrix is more comprable to a comic book universe, as opposed to a literary one. EQ is more Metropolis than Matrix. Gattaca with guns. A cool farenheit 451. Preston vs Winston, Father vs Big Brother. Logan's Run vs Preston's gun...sh*t I'll stop now.

Colliding bullets? That would've been awesome, but it would've probably involved CGI and ended up detracting from the originality and coolness of the fight. It conjours up images of Neo and Smith in the subway when they jump at each other and just unload - looked cool, but lacks that brutality and realism you get in EQ. Still, it would've been pretty interesting. But the best stuff always comes from having to make the best of what you can on a shoestring. The money hose just washes out the soul of a movie.

Yeah, I LOVE TRIGUN!!! And the part when Knives and Vash were holding each other's gun was really nice. It would have been a nice add on to the EQ fight scene. Preston and DuPont could have dropped each other's clips, bent their own down and used the auto loader the refill on bullets ,and then started to shoot again. It would have been awsome! ///_-\\ D&S ^_^ X&V - Preston
