Does anybody know how the word 'acolyte' appeared here meaning 'pre-cleric' stage? I first learned it from 'Immune' and, translating, discovered the original meaning. Was it mentioned anywhere before 'Immune' appeared? Or the author of the fic is also the author of the term?

Either that he's been guilty of attending one of the Liturgical churches on any given Sunday ... where the word is not uncommon.

Well, I first used it in my very first fanfic Dizzying Highs and Abysmal Lows. when I was trying to understand the organisational nature of the Monastery. I already knew the term since I'm one of those boring Latin/Anglo-saxon/Middle English students from way back. It just seemed a natural thing to call the poor dears! The nice thing about those of us who write about the EQniverse is that we share ideas and like the continuity it gives.

I was going to say it appears in "You're in the army now," only ... upon checking again ... there they are called Auditors instead of Acolytes ... in the Eastern Rites that term (Auditors) is used to denote what would in the West be called 'pre-catechumens." More fan-fics are good, Eithne Ame ... in any language! And if the site doesn't support Russian language, maybe you could put some into English for us ...?

As I said earlier, cross-overs from one fic to another, be it in terminology or brief appearances by others' characters only strengthens the EQ worlds we create. Just looked back at when I wrote this....3 years ago!

I think that's right too, conserning the fact the EQ fandom actually seems to be not so wide... That's better for us - less conflicts inside And I've seen some, truly awful

Well I only bite idiots that threaten the harmony of the forums, but from my own standpoint no one really can argue over the use of the word Acolyte to describe a student of a particular regimen or religion anyways, since the term is far older than Equilibrium or the fan-fictions.
But as Libby said the folk that do expand on the EQUniverse do often share ideas/concepts with each other to strengthen the whole experience.

Isn't a 1st level Cleric in D'n'D an Acolyte? That was my first ever exposure to that word back in the 80's.
It would definately seem fitting for it to be used in Equilibrium given the quasi-religious tone of the film.

It would definately seem fitting for it to be used in Equilibrium given the quasi-religious tone of the film. This is also the point I've been thinking of. The idea of quasi-religion seems to be quite an important part of the whole EQniverse.

Or if an acolyte goes bad ... I suppose their title could be changed to that of 'aconite.'
Aconite = poisonous flower, popularly known as wolfsbane.

Ere the time of Ragnarok draws closer. You know ... some days I look around me ... at what I've gotten done that day (or not) ... at the state of the house ... and I draw some curious consolation that--no matter what else--the time of Ragnarok has, indeed, drawn a day closer.

Something Gill drew a long time ago based on one of my online RPG personas of Fenriswolf. I always thought it would be funny if I owned a squeeky world, so I had one coded up that squeeks and does various actions when you type:
bite world, into the server.
