Wow, ginxy! Fabby pics. I'm really jealous of the dolphin swim. That's one thing I've not managed to do yet. I suppose it's not a mammoth trip for you to get to Mexico or the Caribbean islands *sniffs...thinks of Barbados*, it's an 8-9hr flight for us...
Aedh...non-scary smile...must be love *whistles*

Here's the latest one of me with the new trim, doing my best Robert Plant-circa-1972 look. No blow-dry, no chemicals ... just fresh-washed, air-dried, and brushed and shaken out.

Over the weekend, Rob and I went up to Oxford to visit our son. He showed us round the Lab where he's doing his M.Phys project. I don't pretend to understand any of it, but it has to do with using Lasers to isolate and count Photons so that eventually, utilising Carbon Nanotubes, they can build a Quantum Computer... Andrew's designed and built the electronic counter and written the software. Rob understands it...I just took the photos. Lots of safety protocols in place...very dangerous things , lasers. This is where the lasers are fired from... Here they're focused and concentrated using mirrors and filters... This is where Andrew's counter is housed...sometimes the photons split (??!!) and so they can count them (8 million or so in a nanosecond apparently ) As I say, I don't understand much of it...but he's explaining it to his dad. This is the Quad at Hertford College (the one with the famous bridge) After a very nice Italian lunch, we visited Oxford Castle, a classic Motte-and-Bailey Norman castle with a Saxon Tower. It was used as a prison for 400 years (some of recent history's notorious types were imprisoned here including The Black Panther, Donald Neilson)

Excellent, Libby ... thanks for the information. *makes a few Evil Genius lab notes* *chuckles* My very own in absentia Evil Genius has already got plans! Fascinating pics Libby...although I have to say, that kind of stuff makes my poor little brain ache! I just stood there and tried to look intelligent (not very successfully ;D)...and got told off for bending down to bench level to look more closely (something one never does in a laser lab it appears). The doors have special interlocks to stop people wandering in and getting fried! ;D

This is something for my brother. He may be younger than I am, but he is in the same class level at school, but he takes the advanced course in Physics and Mathematics. ...,what would have meant suicide for me and my marks... But Oxford is an interesting town, but it's not the most beautiful town I have seen... I visited it, when I was in London.

But Oxford is an interesting town, but it's not the most beautiful town I have seen... I visited it, when I was in London. The major problem with Oxford is that it's too busy...too many tourists and too many buses. It's really only the major College buildings that people visit...Merton, Trinity, St John's and of course Christchurch. Apart from that it's just another Oxfordshire town with a few added bits of interest. It gained quite a bit of fame with the TV series 'Morse' and is having a bit of a renaissance with the follow-on, 'Lewis'. We go because our Andrew studies there. Hertford isn't a rich College (although it's 4th out of 30 in the table of results) but it does have 'the bridge' and his 'golden key' means we can walk across it, which 'ordinary' tourists can't do. ;D

The Philip Pullman books also helped Oxford's reputation. (So your son's got a Golden Key rather than a Golden Compass! ) LOL! Indeed, forgot about His Dark Materials...absolutely loved those books!

LOL! Indeed, forgot about His Dark Materials...absolutely loved those books! Yep, me too...although I wish they'd left the title of the first book alone..."Northern Lights" sounded so much better...why change that??? (Plus it wasn't a damned compass anyway! ) Found this explanation on a forum... ...not sure how true this might be, but sounds reasonable...except as you say, the compass wasn't a compass it was an alethiometer. I suppose it fits better with the other two titles as there are 3 objects winding through the story.
