After a year and a half on Lulu.com, where innumerable glitches kept it from being available for sale, I decided to go with BookSurge. "Karasevdah," all 559 pages of blood, sorcery, vampirism, ethnic cleansing, and other pleasant things that the Balkans have given us, will be be available on Amazon.com ... exactly when, I'll let you know. But soon. For those interested in a test read, the site is still up and running. I do know the price will be $24.95. Buy one. Better yet, buy six. You never know when you'll need a present guaranteed to ensure that unwanted in-laws or neighbours--or pesky co-workers--will avoid you for years to come. "Here ... read this. I thought this was awesome!" I'll also make any relevant notes about good or bad features with BookSurge.

"Karasevdah" is now available from Amazon.com for the low, low price of ... heck, why don't ya just check it out for yourselves?? www.amazon.com/Karasevdah-Balkan-Odyssey-C-Olsen/dp/1419684965/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208236622&sr=1-1I have to say my experience with BookSurge has been (so far, touch wood) on the whole a good one. I used their "ready-to-print" system, by which, if you have the complete text AND cover ready to go in PDF format, optimised for commercial printing, with everything set, they will put you in print for USD $99 ... which is a tiny fraction of the price it usually costs to self-publish in the traditional way. It was all hassle-free, and I would use them again ... WILL use them again if I ever get "Nonstop Murder & Lust" finished. Contrary to rumours I've heard about how they screw authors out of money, I stand to make a cut off each sale that would probably embarrass me, if I were capable of embarrassment. As it is, while "Karasevdah" was in preparation--after I had submitted my price--they raised the amount the author gets; if I had known how much they were going to raise it I would probably have shaved a few bucks off the list price. Oh, and for those of you who are wondering ... no, the author's name on the cover is not MY real name. It's one of my long-dead grandparents' real names. I don't put my real personal data on the Net--and a good job, too, or the recent identity theft incident I had could have created problems far more serious than they were. In the meantime, feel free to buy a copy ... the cover is done in appropriately Librian colours; makes a wonderful gift for your favourite Cleric or shapeshifter, or Cleric shapeshifter. Read it and be sure to write a good, colourful review--sample reviews avalable on request for busy folk. The story would make a good base project for any budding Central European filmmakers we might have among us. And I'm hoping to move at least down into the seven digits for Amazon sales ranking.

And congrats from me too of course! It's rather thrilling to finally see it there on Amazon! It's only a shame that they don't also add a brief outline of the story....along with the other product details.

In case anyone's curious, here's the "official" dust-jacket blurb: A farmer-warrior with a secret that could unbalance an empire, driven to the edge of sanity by a sudden, strange blood-frenzy ...
A sorceress with a past unknown even to herself, fighting for her family against a vengeance from beyond time and space ...
Each the last of their kind, bound together and set down in a land of long memories and smouldering hatreds: Bosnia, 1908.
Meet your murderer--in the mirror.I might add that one of the husband-wife team of ethnologists whose field-work with Bosnian mountain folk in the 1950s and '60s made my research possible has contacted me, saying he'd like to read it. *dies* I hope he also happens to be a horror fan ...

Well ... people who've read it can write reviews of it for Amazon, which will appear on the product's page ... True...but in order to read it in the first instance that original person might need to be tempted by the blurb...read it...and then write that fantastic review.

I have put a sample chapter of "Karasevdah" (the first one) on its own board on the NMAL website. You can view it and read a few promotional blurbs for it, here ... alderisland.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bosniaI will put up a few more sample passages, totaling about 20% of the book in all. No, I'm not going to put up the ending.
