So who is planning to catch it this weekend?? I should be heading out the door in about an hour.
Nick at CHUD thinks its the best comic book movie yet but I'm sure he's omitting Matrix. I tend to place that one in the "comic book" genre. Though its not actually based on one, Matrix has IMHO the best look, feel, and framing of a comic yet to film.
So are you seeing X2? Why or why not??

I'm seeing it tomarow night And It's been geting a LOT of good reviews witch is good. Also, the reason "The Matrix" might apear to have a "comic book" look to it Jen, is because when the Wachowskis were planing the film they had all there concept artwork and story boards done by comic book artists. They purposely did that because they wanted to get a look for the film that was a blend of both Japanese animation styles crossed with American comic book style. Wich i think is awsome. Things like the opening Trinity scene shot of her hands on her head and the cop behind her being seen in the "hole" created by her arm placement are very comic booky. But I think that's what The Matrix's subconcious feel is. And notice how those comic book/anime styled shots mainly are seen while they're in the Matrix or Construct program.

I saw it, I LOVE IT! I love my Kurt so, so damn much. I spent all of his scenes going "Awwww!" at supersonic frequencies!
I spotted Gambit's name, when Mystique is going through Stryker's computer you see the name "Remy LeBeau" onscreen at one point.
"My name is Kurt Wagner, but in the great Munich Circus I was known as the Incredible Nightcrawler!"

**********Some Spoilers*********** An excellent start and bar setting for this Summers film season. Though I wasn't as floored by it as many have been, probably due to not having a childhood connection with the characters, it was still an awesome experience. I'm somewhat of an X-Men novice though I have picked up a few things when my children watched the tv series. Some thoughts... - Seeing Jean Grey's eyes go orange and knowing we were in for a coming Phoenix transition was a true moment of excitement. - Great added characters!! Loved Pyro and was a bit miffed (an eye rolling moment) when Rouge acted motherly by stopping him. Nightcrawler scenes, his character and opening segment are actually my favorite parts of the film surprising since I have complete lust for Wolverine. Nightcrawler IMHO stole show. It was interesting that even many of the mutants themselves show a repulsion towards him just like humans did to them. Nice little subtle comment on biases. - Mystique's character was great. It was fun trying to guess which form she was taking; if those characters were themselves or her. Also a kewl moment seeing Rebecca Romijn-Stamos somewhat as herself. I think she's the best female character in the film. Most interesting anyway. - Magneto's escape was a visual feast. Nicely done. - Also enjoyed catching glimpes and moments of other X-Men characters. Overall a great ensemble film that I'll be catching more than once or even twice in the theater. (Note - I'll be posting this same message on CHUD's X2 thread)

Hey Cleric, I can't believe that I forgot to respond to this. (smack!!) (for those of you who have already read my stuff at CHUD this is somewhat of a retread - Sorry) Yea, I know about the Matrix planning and I think it works. Its one of the first films that really captured the "comic" ambiance perfectly, Road to Perdition is another though on a more subtle level. I think your comment about the Trinity shot is spot one. What you said about the change outside the Matrix as well is interesting though I think that shot with Neo on the table porcupine-ed with rods is very "comic" in tone as is the scene when he pulls the tube from his arm. I guess I just would like to see more "comic films" and less "comic adaptations." Comic characters are great but its the visual, artistic style of the graphics that truly sets it apart from other mediums and that's what I tend to love the most, the artwork. I could just flip through Road to Perdition's graphic novel for hours.

Haven't seen X2 yet but was surprised it opened at $85M which makes me think Reloaded can break Spiderman's opening weekend BO. Unless of course Susan Sarandon shows up to protest the word "Reloaded." Thank GOD she didn't find out about EQ.

Hey Ultraviolent...welcome, Did Susan Sarandon say something about X-Men 2?? We could always tell her that they are just "reloading" the computer.
