Ok, I have the article. Its short but very good. Until the current issue is off the stand I'll only give you guys a teaser...
Genuine innovations in cinema are few and far between, lately. Bullet-time. CG characters. Big Fat Greek Weddings. And that's about it. Until, that is, Kurt Wimmer came along with Equilibrium...using 'gun-kata', a brand-new martial art dreamed up by Wimmer. At his house, in fact.
"I did it in my yard with two prop guns and I just worked it out," says the director. "It's fairly self-evident. I didn't cover nearly all the stuff I came up with..."
--Kung Fu: New & Improved, Empire, April 2003, p. 32
The article also includes conceptual art for the film.

I've changed the title of this thread from "Gun Kata in Empire Mag..." to 'EQ Articles" so I can add new things to the thread and keep them all in one place. One reason I took this step was so I could include Nick's excellent article that he had to remove from his forthcoming magazine due to a scheduling change. Though it's unfortunate that the article needed to be excised Nick has not allowed it to be lost entirely. He has posted it at his site (thanks to Nick)... Equilibrium...
