I'm currently trying to write a story based in the world of Equilibrium and need a little help.
For example, JenGe, your forum rank is "Evidentiary Storage Officer". What is that position, what do they do, did you make it up or is it mentioned in the film?
You see, I live in the UK and Equilibrium isn't out on video/DVD yet so I can't note down all the locations etc.
Basically I need a list of locations, characters (what type, not who) and that sort of thing. Basically anything about Libria and the Nethers. how soceity is structured etc.
Any help much appreciated, though I'll probably never get round to writing it due to a distinct lack of talent.
Ta.

From what I can remember, not that many actual placenames are given in the film. Here's a few that are Monastry : Place where Clerics are trained. The impression is that there's only one of them. Halls of Justice: Place where Sense Offenders are tried. Halls of Incineration (? Can't quite remember if that's right.): Place where Sense-Offenders get toasted. Libria: The nation state where the movie takes place. The Nethers: Old, ruined wastelands that surround Libria. Equilibrium Centers: Places were Prozium is distributed. There are a lot of these, spread throughout the city. As for ranks/casts: The TetraGrammaton: Law Enforcement Organisation (I think, though they get linked closely with the government as well.) Sweeper: The black clad foot soldiers of the TetraGrammaton Grammaton Cleric: TetraGrammaton elite. The profession of Preston. DO NOT PULL A GUN ON THESE PEOPLE! Vice Council: The rank Dupont holds. Presumably this means they also have a council and council members Evidentery Storage Officer: The Dude who logs and records all the EC-10 the Clerics capture for use in trial. I think there's quite a few of these. Sense-Offender: Anyone not on Prozium. Risistance: The Sense-Offenders activley opposing the TetraGrammaton. Father: The dude who runs Libria and presumably set up Libria and it's laws. I'm doing this from memory, so that list's probably incomplete. Can anyone else think of any? I'm in the UK waiting for the DVD too, but you can order it from www.dv-depot.com. They have better international shipping rates than amazon, and are cheaper and a bit more reliable too. 4 days delivery if you're lucky You could order today and have it by the end of the week!

Thanks.
Who was the guy who Preston threw through the library wall? Just a teacher?
And what was the room were Preston was watching the videos? Was it a public library?
Bah, do any websites deal in VHS rather than DVD's exclusively?

I'd just like to amend Coolhand's list, as it's pretty complete, for the most part.
The Tetragrammaton Clerics also have a ranking system. Wimmer states on his commentary that First Class Grammaton Clerics wear the black coat, while Second Class[which is what Brandt is, presumably] wear the bluish-greyish coat we see him wearing before he weaves Preston into his web of deception.
It should be assumed that the men with swords at the end are Father's personal guard. It would seem, in the movie, that holding a sword is a regal position, as Preston wears one with his formal wear.
The Evidentiary Storage Officer also burns EC-10 material, as well.
I'm assuming that the men in white that burn the Mona Lisa[among others] are part of the Evidentiary Storage team.
I believe the librarian you refer to was a librarian as well as a teacher.
It appears that everyone in Libria lives in a flat of sorts. Kind of like in Tokyo, how everyone lives in a space, slightly larger than an average apartment, but it serves as their permanent dwelling. Instead of most countries' notions of building horizontally, they build vertically, probably for allocation reasons.
The Vice Council is most likely second in the Council itself, owing that the Father is Supreme Council.
Also, Saddam Hussein is in the beginning of the movie. I think his purpose in the world of Libria is to have bushy mustache that, by the end of the movie, grows into a full handlebar mustache. Kurt Wimmer says this is an allegory to Preston's blossoming emotion.

Actually that is incorrect. The Evidentiary Storage Officer does not burn anything. He stays in the building and keeps the log of the items being stored. If you take a look at page 5 of the draft script you will see that the "Chemist" verifies the authenticity of the paintings and then the items are burned by the "Conflagration Units" and not the Evidentiary Storage Officer or team. Script (draft version) - Page 5

Okay, sorry. I don't have a script on hand. How deeply have you searched my site?? So far I have pages 1-40 available to anyone who wants to read it. There are 104 pages total and I'm still working on getting the rest on site. You can find them here... www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/Screenplay1.htmBTW, you are correct though in a way because there are "Evidentiary Teams" that do collect and log things in the field.
