We recently watched the movie "The Listening" (2006 - Italian title, 'In Ascolto'). Very good Italian suspense flick built around a character who is a professional "listener" for the US National Security Agency. He discovers corporate corruption involving his department and decides to defect, devoting his "listening" skills to uncover the scandal. In that, the plot resembles that of EQ and I think it would appeal to fans of the same. www.imdb.com/title/tt0427461/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Just took in "Le premier cercle," aka "Inner Circle" and "Ultimate Heist," a 2009 French gangster flick starring Jean Reno as a Riviera gang boss. Well done little effort, with the writing a conscious throwback to American gangster flicks of the 1930s but nicely updated. www.imdb.com/title/tt1130993/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Here is a new movie where Christian Bale is once again a Cleric! Equilibrium fans should definitely see this film. Here is the trailer for "The Flowers of War" (2011) . www.youtube.com/watch?v=gac7-t7151M This film is about the Nanking Massacre (1937) in China, when the Japanese army committed atrocities before and during World War II. In this film Christian Bale becomes a priest in order to protect Chinese girls from the Japanese war criminals. In some scenes of The Flowers of War, Christian Bale actually speaks like John Preston in Equilibrium. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flowers_of_Waren.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre

[/color] I am glad you noticed the similarities! Especially towards the end of "The Flowers of War", when Christian Bale was speaking to the Chinese students to reassure them that everything would be OK and that the Chinese women who sacrificed themselves by volunteering to be arrested by the Japanese soldiers would not be harmed, both his voice and his facial expressions were like in the Equilibrium scene when Preston was talking to his son during breakfast (when his son told Preston that he informed Brandt that Preston was going to the Equilibrium center to get a replacement dose.)

In some ways our local parish priest reminds me of Cleric Bale, both in "Flowers" and EQ; a tall, dark-haired, rather ascetic-looking young man in a black cassock who speaks quietly, and whose demeanour silently conveys the idea of other issues at work inside him.

Skyfall - awesome! Yes, it was definitely a cut above other recent Bond movies. If you have drifted away from the fold, this is the one to come back with.

Many thanks for mentioning "Elysium"! I am sure this will be a very good movie because the director is the one who made "District 9". In fact, the actor who was the protagonist in "Disctrict 9" also has a minor role in "Elysium." Here is a 15 minute interview about Elysium: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YyU8w6OBTg

Oblivion is also a good movie: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/oblivion_2013/Even though the director compromised too much by emphasizing action scenes instead of the plot, nevertheless the subject is VERY good. My main complaint is that a few scenes were intentionally made reminiscent of classic famous movies, but there are some interesting surprises that definitely make the movie above average.

We watched Cloud Atlas last night. It was completely compelling and mesmerizing. The Neo-Seoul scenes in particular reminded us of Equilibrium. Definitely recommend this film.

I saw Iron Man III, nice film, wraps up the trilogy nicely until they sign Downey Jr. to another 4 movies. Lots of action mixed with humor and a couple of excellent plot twists I didn't see coming. Worth seeing on the big screen. I saw Star Trek Into Darkness yesterday. If you liked the last one (I did), this one won't disappoint. I can't say too much without spoilers, but it's another one worth seeing on the big screen. The cast are clearly having fun, Benedict Cumberbatch makes a wonderfully creepy villain (and kicks ass effectively too), and there a couple of decent plot twists which if you want to really enjoy the movie, it's best to avoid reviews as they seem to think the minute the film hits the theatre, it's okay to blab all the spoilers. Next up; Superman Man of Steel in June.

We watched "Gwoemul" (2006), title translated as "The Host," a nifty Korean monster flick. You'll laugh, you'll shiver, you'll sigh. Recommended. www.imdb.com/title/tt0468492/

Finally I have seen "Europa Report" and it is very good. It is not as remarkable as "Moon", but it is excellent. Maybe due to the low budget it was too spartan (in real manned missions to Jupiter the hardware in the spacecraft would probably look more expensive), but overall the movie is highly recommended. The directors consulted with NASA to get good advice about the realities of space. Highly recommended!

I have seen Divergent, and the plot borrowed a lot from Equilibrium. Also, the acting is very good. For EQ fans it is recommended.

I have seen The Giver: although the plot is very disappointing, the visual quality if very high with memorable scenes, and there are a few themes that are borrowed from EQ. If you have the time, you might consider this film, although it would be disappointing for those who are not EQ fans. Divergent was FAR better in comparison. On this occasion, once again I must recommend Divergent!!!
