On the director's commentary of the DVD, towards the end of the film, Kurt Wimmer mentions that he copied a shot from another movie and offers to buy a Coke for anyone who can guess what film he was copying. I know I have seen the shot before and I've been racking my brain, but I can't remember what movie it was. Does anyone know which movie he is referring to?

I can't help you with that one but here is one a friend of mine spotted... John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever

There was another scene that was remeniscent of another film. The only scene in EQ that's remotely similar to the Matrix as a matter of fact. (Most people can't seem to distinguish bullet-time from... non-slowmo filmed action scenes these days, but this scene was the exeption) was the one where Preston walks into the chamber filled with screens showing Father. He's looking downwards with lidded eyes. He looks up at the technicians. There's a bass beat, he opens his eyes and gives them the "eval" stare, and they all run away.
Neo did the same thing in Matrix 1 to the two remaining agents, after he eradicated Smith. (NOTE, ERADICATED Smith, bringing Smith back for the sequel is the WORST sort of cheap plot device in my opinion, as is having Neo still fighting hand to hand when he was practically a god at the end of the first film, and didn't need to fight physically anymore)
That's one snippet that's the same as another film, shot for shot.

I know I've seen that bit from another moive and now it's really bugging me! This is what I got from imdb.com -- these are the films referenced in Equilibrium...
Alphaville, une étrange aventure de Lemmy Caution (1965) Fahrenheit 451 (1966) THX 1138 (1971) Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) Matrix, The (1999) Magnolia (1999)
Any of those sound right?

I only saw the movie once, but I loved it. I'm thinking of buying it on DVD.
Did the men around the table have the "Speak on evil, hear no evil, and see no evil" hand movements?
The original "Planet of the Apes" had a scene like that around a large table when they were questioning Charlton Heston.
OR,
Can the scene be from a film that had a forman and a jury. Perhaps it's a count room jury debate scene. "12 Angry Men"??

My son and I think we spotted a shot stolen from Flatliners. It not the one from the "coke" comment though.

Im assuming the shot was a homage to the Hudsucker Proxy. It had a similar camera shot if I remember correctly. Spider-Man had a similar shot, but since Equilibrium was in production before spider-man, its probably not it

There's a similar shot in The Matrix where Morpheus is on the phone with everyone around him, on an identical phone.
The shot even cranes out just like in Equilibrium.
This shot could be from other movies, of course.

Someone mentioned this one on IMDb...
I'm beginning to wonder just how many shots Wimmer actually stole and used in EQ??

A friend of mine thought that the set up looked a lot like the "last supper." I just feel the need to quote myself... Anyway...the following is from the draft script (p. 95)
PHONE You're connected with the Vice-Council.
DuPont's voice comes to the line. DUPONT'S VOICE Yes?
PRESTON It's done.
DUPONT'S VOICE The Resistance? Like Judas with Christ and his disciples, Preston SITS with JURGEN and his top men. He exchanges a glance with them. This is their sacrifice, their doom- and they know it.[/i]

I really enjoyed Flatliners. I'm curious...which shot did you and your son think resembled Flatliners? It was funny because we both jumped up and said it at the same time. Its the one where there is a long shot of Julia Roberts...and she's folding an item of clothing...I think she was in Bacon's apartment...or was that Sutherland's...I can't remember now. Anyway the camera pulls forward to her in a slo-mo fashion. Then she slowly looks up at the camera and damn!!...she has the exact same expression as Preston's wife just before her arrest. Wimmer used the clothing, the slo-mo pull in, and the exact same expression. It was the slo-mo though that gave it away. Its such an odd but extremely effective use of the technique in a quiet moment instead of exaggeration of action. Of course I could be wrong and way off base but I'm getting the feeling that Wimmer snuck in a lot of stuff from other films.

Late to the posting game-
Just saw the movie, very well done.
The scene looks to be out of the original Crow movie, just before Eric drops in on the bad guys. They are having a meeting in a loft type area, just above a music club and the lead bad guy is discussing making Devil's Night fun again.

I forgot to mention here that I now have a picture of this scene on the site thanks to a Fitchner Fansite (They have some other great images too). We can now stare at it and dream of "bankrupting" Wimmer ;D...

maybe it is from matrix, when keannu is talking to cypher over the cell phone and everyone is being unplugged around him... *dodges all rocks thrown* also that scene where Brandt arrests Preston, and Preston looks up at Brandt with that crying face, reminds of when Spider-man Peter Parker looked up at Green Goblin from on the floor, when goblin stepped on Peter's hand and told him "you've spun your last web spider man" same sort of expression there heh.

The scene reminds me of the part in the original tim Burton 'Batman' when Jack Nicholson goes and tells all the crime lords that he's the new boss in town. That was the movie that it seemed like it was borrowed from. My first thought was the Godfather though, because every filmmaker in history has to put an homage to that film.
