In that case he needs to stop acting like he hasn't. It's not that I meant it literally, it just seems to me that he's not too good at acting emotions -it seems a little fake when he does it.
I haven't seen many movies with him, so I'll gladly admit that I've probably just not seen the full potential of him... but still I can't help to be bothered by what I have seen... at least a little.
I don't dislike him at all, I think he fits well in the parts he plays usually, and delivers a pretty solid performance as well.

**My humble opions follow**
See We've already seen Reeves as Neo and Bale as Preston, and the roles were tailored around their individual strengths, weaknesses, etc... Therefore, since i'm sure that Bale has different personality traits than Reeves, the chances of the Matrix being the same if Bale were Neo, would be really slim at best. They would have made the role of Neo fit Bale, and he'd be hailed as the best choice. Just as if Wimmer had casted Reeves as Preston, the role would have been tailored to him, and he'd be the "only man for Preston's role". Again, these are my humble thoughts ;D

To beat a dead horse, here are my two cents...
No. Keanu is much more suited to the "lost and confused" type of character that Neo seems to be throughout every Matrix movie. Bale is by far the better actor, but as others have already stated on this thread, he simply does not fit the part as well as Keanu.
I do have to admit my own bias, however. Being that I think The Matrix franchise as whole is mediocre, it pains me to think of an actor as talented as Bale having a role as lifeless as Neo. Just my opinion though.

Though I am a big Keanu fan I somewhat agree. I think that he is perfect for these types of rolls. He did it well not only in Matrix but also The Devil's Advocate, A Walk in the Clouds, Point Break, Feeling Minnesota, The Night Before, and to some extent even Speed. He has this type of character down to a T. Bale is much more of a "chameleon" actor. I think that I'll take both of them home with me!!!

I think that only really applies to the first movie. In Reloaded, when Neo actually had a clue what he was doing, Keanu didn't have much to do but show as little emotion as possible. In the end, that made seem less human than Preston was at the beggining of Eq, and it is one of the reasons i don't like the sequels as much. Keanu was perfect for the Matrix, but Bale would've done better in the sequels.

I believe Bale would not have made a good Neo simply because Neo isn't as cold a character as Christian Bale normally plays. Neo is an average guy thrown into a less-than-average situation, while Bale is a man who does not know humanity trying to find it in a world that has none. The roles, in my opinion, call for two very different actors with very different abilities.

Hm... just thinking, if ... and IF they do switch roles, that could work because in EQ Preston has to supress emotion, and Keanu's face, being kinda stoic, would have worked so well ;D Don't get me wrong, it's a very handsome stoic face Bale has a very expressive face can can do a wide range of emotions, which might have been better in the Matrix - the deception, the rage, the love, etc. Both are physically great as their characters and vice versa.

I don´t think Bale would be a good Neo...I mean, Bale is a great actor indeed, but he doesn´t have the character profile.... It´s the same thing to ask if Keanu would be a good Batman. Please.

Just picture Bale saying this line from The Matrix:
"WHoA."
When you're done wincing: 'nuff said!

I think he would have made Neo more 3 dimensional and more darker so yeah he would have made a better Neo.
