The Wimmer! Based on his posts at CHUD, he actually seems like a good guy. I'm thrilled to see him get another great gig.
I wonder if he's seen this site. Do you know JenGe?

Yahoo has Variety's entire article posted... A Chinese Chick Kicker - Wimmer mentioned yesterday on CHUD that the title is a bit misleading since "the lead is not Asian."Besides I think that had to be one of the stupidest titles I've seen in awhile.

Sorry but I must disagree on this one. Equilibrium rocked but so far what I've heard and read about this next movie...I believe I will sit it out. Vampires, I had enough with Blade I and Blade II. Futursitic Sci-Fi Heroins...anyone remember Tank Girl, Barb Wire or how about those low budget Sci-Fi Channel movies with the same concept? Sorry but not my cup of tea.

I agree.. Though EQ was and will always be INSANE, I think I'll sit this one out. The thought of a vampire storyline, though it isn't, just doesn't appeal to me.. EQ's story certainly did!

Here are a few reasons why I'm thrilled for something like this. 1. Though I'm not the biggest fan of Vampire flicks (except Lost Boys) I like how Wimmer is taking a fantasy concept and adding a sci/fi spin to it. 2. A female action lead. There just are not enough of those around for female action junkies like myself. Sure there's Ripley, Lara Croft, Trinity, and a handful of others but in this day and age there really should be more. I'm tired of being feed dramatic, neurotic, chick flicks. Now there's something that's just not my cup of tea. I have enough neurosis of my own, thank you very much. 3. Wimmer's sense of artistic style I can only compare to one other director, Ridley Scott. Both are creators of worlds. Sure Scott has a longer track record but he too had to start somewhere and even have IMHO some flubs. I am pleased with what Wimmer accomplished in Equilibrium and am eager to give him a chance to show me what other worlds he can unleash. If he attempts to implement the following ambitious goal it certainly will be fascinating, from a cinematic standpoint, to see and experience the results... 4. Only two other filmmakers have equally captured the thrill of action on film for me; Woo and the Wachowskis. So you see, the word "Vampire" just isn't going to scare me away that easily but then like I said..."I am hard core."

All good points but I still think I got my fill of vampires and female heroins for one lifetime. If he does make this movie, it will be aimed at tom-boy females as the main audience. The type of people who read Anne Rice and claim that we need a female president to fix America. Don't mind me but I am against the feminist movement...you got your right to vote, get over it. lol

And exactly what are you saying about moi?? (oooppsss!! SMACK!!! ) BTW, don't read Anne Rice, much prefer Philip K. Dick, Tolkien, CS Lewis, Zelazny... Hadn't you noticed though that most feminists hate guns or weaponry of any sort?? I really don't see how this type of flick would attract them now Hours on the other hand.... I thought Rachel Weisz did a very nice feminine (not FEMINIST nor tom-boy) sword play in Mummy Returns. Quite sexy in fact as was the sparring between Daredevil and Elektra. It doesn't all have to be biker chicks who want the White House. But I guess to each their own...

Gag me with a spoon...Elektra and Daredevil thing was a bunch of B.S. Elektra never played a major part in the Daredevil storyline and the only reason that she was in that movie was to attract a female audience with the "romance" and the "strong female character."

-----Gag me with a spoon...-------I see that you're from the "Valley" too. What part?? I hail from Chatsworth. (oooppppsss!!! SMACK!!! ) You have every right to your opinion however strongly I may disagree with it. I'm sure no one in their right mind would drag you to see Ultraviolet. And since your issues with it are of a purely personal preference it sure as heck won't be me.

Now I'm all excited.
Yeah, Ripley rocked the HIZOUSE! I think I do prefer male leads just because I can relate to them more, being male myself. But I was raised by a single mother and an older sister, so I know how tough the femmes can be!
If anyone can pull this off, it's Wimmer. (Well, aside from James Cameron...)

Dont take this the wrong way and all ladies of the world, but within the past decade or so there's been a LOT of BAD women action heros. Including: Barbwire, Tankgirl, Resident evil chick, and so forth.
Also over the past few years there's been a "gorging" of vampire based media. All be it cool movies like Blade one and two, buffy the vampire slayer and the Angel series, that movie Dracula 2000 and so on and so forth.
I'll proble end up seeing the flick (if it doesn't have EQ's problems) the first day it comes out because i'm a hooked Whimmer fan for life. But I can't help but get past the fact that Whimmer seems to be just riding the bandwaggon of vamp coolness and CRAPPY women action stars.

Huuuummmm...maybe its a good thing then that I haven't seen any of these (except for catching the last half of Blade on the tube.) But I know what you mean about being a "hooked Wimmer fan." I sat through countless action flicks last year, especially those Summer blockbusters, only to leave the theater feeling disappointed and unfullied. Little did I know that Dec. would bring a little known flick that in many ways has changed my life. The last film I obsessed over was Gladiator but it didn't have me making a mad, insane dash across statelines just to catch it one last time in theater. I'm not sure how many directors out there could create a film that would inspire me to be this nuts or motivated.

On a side note, I never realy liked Gladiator. It was kinda lame in my opinion. Now "Virtuosity", there was a good movie with Crow in it.

ROCK AND ROLL! Wow - i remember watching this series here in the UK years ago on Sky One and i thought it was great fun - really dark - but it got cancelled! Woah - that is so cool that it's being made into a movie - i hope it gets past the whole pre-production hell blather without any problems. wohoo! Spike

I'm 100% positive that Wimmer's new project Ultraviolet is not based on the series of that name. Sorry to burst your bubble.

What's all this whining about 'I'll have to sit this one out, i dont like vampires'??
Read the article. It's not really about vampires. There is no sucking of blood anywhere. It's just, like, some people who are being descriminated against because of their genes.

How come I didn't see this thread before? ? Well I'm 100% positive waiting for Ultraviolet...I believe in Kurt Wimmer...I'm very interested also in the emotional part of it...I read some place that Kurt is very concerned in showing the relationship between Milla Jovovich and the kid who's been hunted for everyone...Like Equilibrium I'm sure Kurt will balance breathtaking action with a good and emotional story...

I'm looking forwards to this one, I'll be interested to see where Wimmer's taking Gun Kata next as well - since he's more interested in basing it on wushu style.

As long as he can mix the plot and action, which I am sure he can do, he'll have a hit with me.
